so your not a rugby fan then? i really don't understand your point. you sound angry and bitter. Pat McCabe played well, very well, but his ability and impact is magnified by the fact he played injured. that said he was fantastic. But to throw other players out with the bath water cos you expect it of them, just seems strange, im not sure you have actually made a point to back up why you believe it to be a farse, but whatever i guess. If you cant appreciate a struggle and overcoming the odds and often the wallabies own poor choices to prevail with that win in those circumstances then i guess you might be Eddie Jones.

I was going to leave it there as I see no point in butting heads on something we're unlikely to come to agreement on but considering the nature of your post I felt obliged to respond. Firstly I consider the game itself to be a farce because it was marred by deliberate infringements that were completely ignored by the referee. It wasn't one sided by all means, however there was a high number of ignored infringements that would have clearly lead to South African points. We won on the scoreboard only. Had a more competent referee been in charge of that game the outcome would have been much much different. I suppose I am a little bit bitter about it because what should have been a wonderful result for us will now forever be tarnished. Takes a bit more than that to make me angry though.

Of course I am a rugby fan. By that I mean I love the game itself rather than simply supporting the Wallabies or Tahs and quite a large percentage of that game was played outside the spirit of rugby and a lot of the time completely outside the rules. As a rugby fan this is not something I want to see in a World Cup quarter final. Also I don't consider the points you made earlier to be amazing because you basically listed a group of players doing the jobs they are selected to do. I consider what McCabe did as amazing because he did it with what was clearly a serious injury and the only time that was identifiable was when he wasn't involved in the play. The guy showed heart and courage beyond anything that could have been asked of him.

Again it's unlikely that we'll ever see eye to eye on this and that's the beauty of this forum. My hope is that next week we'll be back here, on the same side celebrating a truly magnificent Wallaby victory.

Living in the US, I have been watching all the games on Pay-per-view and have been subject to watching the games with the NZ commentary team. I just downloaded a copy of last nights game si I could watch it all again and interestingly, it is a copy of the broadcast on Maori TV. I have only been watching for about 10 minutes but I did notice a lot of love and pride toward Quade Cooper which is a bit different to the usual kiwi commentators. They proudly pointed out that he was in fact a Maori boy and you could definitely detect a sense of pride despite him playing for AUS. In general, there tends to be a lot of love coming the commentary team toward the Wallabies in general.

i guess what i dont understand is. You dont give credit to players for outstanding performances. yes there selcted to do the job, as Pat McCabe is. but there playing against someone, and the fact south africa were contained by the wallabies meant they were outplayed. its a contest, its not like giving people a job discription and then them having no problem accomplishing it. The decisions as i said were consistant to both sides, so as much as some of them were crap, the fact is it was consistant from my point of view and therefore doesnt tarnish anything.

if it was truly tarnished, we would still be talking about the scrum penalties against us during the irsih game and we wouldnt have played the boks.

Spoken with the loyalty to one's own of a true ex-Churchie boy! My son's there; loves the place and all things QC (Quade Cooper) partly as he's so good with the boys when he comes back.

@ pete88 .... Most certainly! I deplore the fact that a team would 'willfully' transgress inorder to gain a competitive edge... especially if it is my team, the boks! But other that some of the posters on this thread, I would not go around slapping my back, celebrating it as being an immense defensive effort of sorts.

Btw ....am as docile as a pet chihuahua. Enjoy the win my friend.

@ cyclopath.... The very nature of a forum such as this, is to evoke debate / discussion on one or several topics. Offering differing persectives, not just the popular ones. I would like to think that Im adult enough to distinguish between open debate, idle banter and a shitfight. Im not on here to start one either.

The thing is, Potjiekos, Pocock's performance has put a good number of posters in an awkward position. They can either proceed as screaming hypocrites and laud Pocock or they can bemoan Pocock's play with the same intrinsic, objective fair-mindedness that they reserve for their attitudes to McCaw. Or, they can be consistent realists like Cyclopath, and refrain from the McCaw bollocks and admire Pocock's performance.

Besides David Mc...Pocock, the efforts of the wobs midfield juggernaut, Pat McCabe begs special mention.

Going into a match, on what could best be described as a suicide mission, with a huge chip on his one good shoulder, McCabe played good, hard, unrelenting rugby that culminated in him leaving the field.

As I've mentioned in an earlier post on this thread, he '...might just disprove his detractors..' He did more than that, he shutthemTFup!

Stellar performance Pat McCabe...... You may take bow!

If only it was as simple as telling David Pocock to go out there and play what is arguably one of the best test matches played by a Wallaby in the last 10-20 years.

Stuff it tell Bam Bam out there to do it all by himself.

Reminds me of the Jonah Lomu vs Wales joke that was doing the rounds in the mid 90's when the Taffy's were going through their rebuilding phase. Not sure it is entirely relevant here but:

Story goes along the lines that the Darkness were up by 50 points at half time with Jonah playing a blinder, so during oranges Fitzpatrick tells Jonah that he is taking all the rest of the boys off to the Angel Hotel to get an early start on the after match beers, and that Jonah was to stay on the field and play the dragons by himself.

Long story short, the Darkness all head off to the pub, leaving Jonah to battle the Leeks for the second stanza. Eventually full time is blown. When Jonah finally arrives at the Angel Hotel he announces that the final score was 58 - 24. Fitzpatrick asks how did the Welsh manage to score so many points in the second half? Jonah's reply is I got a sent off for a high tackle after 5 minutes!

He was a giant of the game in his time.

It seems trendy at the moment to do "Jerome Kaino is Chuck Norris", and "Sam Warburton is Chuck Norris" stories depending on which facebook page you follow. How about our own "David Pocock is Chuck Norris" tribute.

I read that Jonah is back in hospital with Kidney problems. Very very sad for him and little Jonah who is only a year or so old. Respect from the Jarses.

Wow, fairly off topic there.

I just can't deal with these forums right now. Not because I don't want to talk to you all, but because I just cannot deal with the emotional stress that the Wobs are putting me through.

The Saffa game fucking near ended me. I'm just mentally unbalanced and irrational for the time being......well, more than normal.

I'll be back for the wrap up in 2 weeks....Go Gold.

One interesting comment from the Maori TV commentators - apparently the JOC (James O'Connor) penalty goal at the end of the game was taken in exactly the same spot as the famous John Eales conversion in 2000 against the ABs.

i remember eltons kicks in 2003. i was drunk enough to have a good cry. yesterday i was sober and the nerves were bad, very bad. proves my theory that rugby should always come with a case of something.

I'm not sure I get all the Mccabe love. He gave his all and then some. He was outstanding in that regard. His performance was good, no doubt. But IMO, only relative to his past performances. He is not quite there at international level (yet?).

However is that the standard we expect of our 12? Personally I think Barnes is in another league. His defence, whilst not quite as dominant, is similarly difficult to breach, whilst he provides footwork, vision, passing and kicking. He is also the babysitter that JOC (James O'Connor), QC (Quade Cooper) and KB (Kurtley Beale) desperately need. We don't need two midfield crashballs.

McCabe wasn't even the best 12 on the field. JDV had a stormer.

Great result, gut wrenching stuff but what a rugby game.

Pocock was just awesome - have never seen such a dominant display.
Cooper was poor, Genia average and Beale just OK. Their collective decisions made under pressure
JOC (James O'Connor) also just a great performance

My nerves always make me drink faster. 3 beers in the first 30 minutes.

Nerves eased a bit after that. They got worse later on in the game though.
