IIRC the regional areas will continue to have ONE in MPEG-2 HD in the interim, until SC10 gets off its arse.

Aussie rugby needs more marketing campaigns like this to increase the attendance and TV rating

REDvFOR: 84k, which is actually a semi-decent result considering...

HIGvHUR: 56k

The ARU stated that they wanted every Super Rugby game featuribg an Aus team to rates over 100k by 2020. While I admit that wasn't a bad effort considering the dross on display if we keep serving that tripe up we'll never see those figures.

Also, once again Super Rugby outrates the A League.

One thing we have in our favour compared to the soccer is that Super Rugby is as high a quality competition as there is in the rugby world. Sometimes.

Whereas local soccer is four or five levels below the EPL et al.

You have no idea how many times I've had the exact same discussion with my Soccer mad uncle at family events about the quality of the A League and why it struggles to gain interest.

Incidentally, the A-League is on FTA, that must affect the Foxtel ratings?
Yeah - FTA have the Friday night game. Incidently they have had a pretty big drop off with the move to SBS2 this year.

Around 60k watch both the FTA (1 game/week) and FOX (5 games/week) - almost exactly what Super Rugby games played in NZ and Aus average here over the year

Fundamentally?

17 rounds, each team has two byes and 9 games a round is 135 games for the Soup.

27 rounds, no byes, 5 games a round gives 135 games as well.

All the South African home games (45 I'd guess), plus the Argies home games (7 or 8) are in ugly slots for Australian viewing.

In addition, ~15 games are all Aussie affairs. That's compared to 108 games for the A-league.

Regardless of how well the local, and Kiwi, and probably Sunwolves games too rate compared to the A-league, there's gonna be some serious queries because of those facts.

Always nice to see it doing well though.

That is poor. Shows how important a 7:30pm game is to pull fans through to the 9:30 one.

It's also why Super Rugby will forever struggle to attract a FTA broadcaster, the inability to guarantee prime time matches Fri/Sat nights due to the complexity of the draw and spread of teams.
