Rugby League players who could have/could make the switch

Surely Fifita would waltz into the number 8 position at either the Reds or Brumbies next year (I listed the Brumbies as he previously had a contract with them and Mowen is going overseas).

He would be an awesome signing. Fast, physical and really skilful.

So you'd replace Schatzy with him?

I don't think you can slot a league player (even if he did play juniors) into the forwards as a run-on player without significantly hurting your technical accuracy at ruck, maul and lineout.

He'll just be a big-human for a while.
he wasnt a junior he was a brumbies squad member he would be upto it straight out

Very happy to hear this news. Welcome back to Rugby Fifita!

What Super Rugby team would he most likely end up at?

Reds are the team that could most use a big skilled forward, emphasis on big as their backrow is good but fairly small. They probably have the money for him too after a few big names moved on over the last year or two. Let's be honest though, he'll end up at the Tahs.

Half jokes aside, it would be great for rugby if he signs up regardless of team. He's not Izzy famous, but he's a got a huge profile at the moment.

The thing you guys arent factoring in is that he left the brumbies due in part supposedly to be closer to his family. Brisbane is further than the brumbies and he may still have the cronulla RL team bidding for him.

Just read the article. If he really wants to have a go at an NRL premiership & Origin then the Sharks may still have a chance to keep him. I still feel at least at some point he'll end up back in Rugby. If being close to family is that important to him then the Tahs have to be another potential team.

If its money he's after make it very clear that he can set himself up for life by playing 6 months of the year in Japan, after a couple of stellar years in Super Rugby of course, if the ARU can't match whatever dollars the loig people throw at him.

Although he wants to remain close to home if he wants to look after his family he'll need to know his long term earning potential in heavens game.

If the bloke wants money it's simply, 5 years in Union ending with playing for the Wallabies in the 2019 WC and then 5 or 6 years of making squillions in France/Japan.

League isn't a terrible game but a talented athlete can reach the summit (WC, Origin, etc.) quickly the then the experiences it offers is limited, in rugby a player literally can't experience everything the game has to offer in one career.

This could spell bad news for O'Connor right? Surely if the ARU (and QRU) had a spare $800k to spend they'd prefer to spend it on a barnstorming backrower rather than another flighty back?
i would think it may close a door at the reds if he was pointed in that direction by the ARU i think they need him more than they would JOC (James O'Connor).

Maybe there is more to it than this, but on the face of it, how can an employer terminate an employee just for making what seemed to be an off-the-cuff remark?

In isolation, the comment seemed to be that he said he wished he had chosen rugby so he wouldn't have to put up with all this shit he had been copping in league (or words to that effect, context unknown).

Hell, I tell my boss I wish I'd chosen another career path everytime he throws a bloody big project at me!

If I got sacked for that, I am pretty sure I would be waltzing away with a nice unlawful termination package.

As far as I am aware, he didn't rape anyone, simulate sex with an animal, glass anyone, punch his girlfriend or take a dump in a hotel corridor. He didn't break into a house and steal anything. He didn't inject himself with pig placenta and swallow a bottle of steroids.

Am I missing something here?

tweets going around that it was actually Fafita and his management who pulled the pin after 3rd party deals couldn’t be sorted.

maybe he saw an opening to get out and took it.

There may be a cooling off period, there may be provision for termination in circumstances where the Player brings the game/club into disrepute, there may have been a confidentiality clause that was essential to the contract, there may be a probation period, or there might even be a dickhead clause.

A little comment like that brings the game into disrepute? Looking at where the game has been over the last few years, they best close down the entire NRL.

Not going to disagree with you but a lawyer could make it stick - it'd be a clause drafted by the club too

Oh, the irony.

His contract wasn't terminated, he only had an memorandum of understanding with the Bulldogs, his actual contract was yet to be signed... Bulldogs stated they couldn't come to an agreement on the finer details of his contract, thus the process is over...

I think the Reds need him more then anyone, its obvious that they need someone in the forwards who is able to bend the defensive line, Fifita would be perfect for this..

Yeah agreed, think they paid overs for him and wanted an excuse to end it anyway.

We could get him cheap now.
