Offspring #1 reluctantly went to white boots this season because Dan Carter is wearing them.

Inside Shoulder, Have you produced a BACK? And then you publically announce that fact on the Worlds Best Rugby Blog?

Shame!

Wouldn't be surprised if there was an emergency EGM of the Cauliflower Club held to review your membership status. :)

Backs Indeed!

I used a pair of 6 stud Puma boots for ages. It wasn't until I bought a pair of Canterbury boots did I realise what I was missing out on. They were far and away the best football boots I ever owned.

They were pretty much these ones:

I added the extra stud to make the boots a 9 studder. As far as stud length goes, I have always gone for 18mm.

I think I've worked out you were in the tight 5 but 18mm in QLD in all conditions??

Yeah, 18mm can be a bit rough on certain fields. I hated playing on the JCU Cairns fields, they were as hard as fuck. But I haven't always played in QLD conditions. I played schoolboys in the ACT and played colts for Southern Districts in Melbourne before moving to QLD.

I always 18mm the best bet though. Maybe I'm just tapped. Funnily enough, although I have spent some time in the tight five, a lot of my rugby has been played at 6.

My dear old dad used to scoff at forwards who wore cut-away boots as he callled them. "They're for backs, what would a forward want to wear them for, how can you push is scrums wearing them" etc.

And as a tight head prop he produced a half back and a 5/8 who ran around in cut-away boots.:)

And here's me giving Inside Shoulder grief about producing Backs. :D

so whats with the kicking tee JOC (James O'Connor)'s using?
Looks like it came from bart Simpson's barber - or JOC (James O'Connor)'s

^^^ Had to laugh at the Hooker from Barker College who was kicking for the Aust Schoolboys last year.

His Kicking tee had a smily face on it with the words "Don't Miss" written in black texta.

I had a pair of those and they split within 6 weeks. Since then I have been in predators and I wouldn't be in anything else.

That's quite unfortunate. I must say those Canterbury boots did eventually split..9 years later. I would have taken them back and asked for a replacement or refund if I were you.

I do find it interesting though. Obviously you were onto a good thing with your predators, I liked the canterbury boots. Others will swear by other makes of boot.

So a general question would be.. what boots do you own and why do you like them?

I have a pair of these, they are great for me as I referee these days so I don't need the long studs. They seem to fit my feet perfectly. This is my 4th pair of Predators I think, and I would recommend them highly. Although they all seem to be going away from a predominately black boot which is generally frowned upon by the referee coaches.

Back in the Day, I used to manage a 3 year cycle with my boots, buying a new pair at the start of each Season.

The new boots were the Match Only boots.

The previous years match boots became the #1 training boots, with the previous years training boots relegated to back up training boots.

Finally the previous years back up training boots were normally discarded as they were typically held together with chewing gum, string and strapping tape.

Like Henry Ford, I had a choice of many colours for my boots provided they were black.

Predators = good.
But you may struggle not only to find black but leather - even their HG (hard ground) predators seem to be going to plastic.
This is probably OK for pros because they get given them but my feeling is that being plastic they will deteriorate quickly and be good for only one season: perfect way to increase sales.

What size studs are the fattys wearing these days?

There are so many scrums collapsing after a fatty loses his footing.

Should the IRB review the maximum length stud, and introduce a dispensation for Props to allow them to have a much longer stud than 21mm in the front four or six studs in their boots.

I'd be all for allowing them to wear mountain climbing crampons if it would reduce the amount of scrum resets.

David Codey (61)
No more resets.
Scrum collapses, short arm to the side feeding the scrum.
Unless the ref deems it deliberate,in which case full arm.

Maybe they're not fattys, technically, but why do Hoiles and Palu both wear moulded soles?
I've seen some 7s and 6s the same.
When did they abolish the rule that said all forwards wear as many studs as the laws permit?
