Rugby Championship in an Aussie bubble?

NZRU hasn't looked too good lately.

First they wrongly appointed Foster instead of Robertson (the player's poll backs this up).
Then they didn't even have a finals series for Super Rugby Aotearoa.
Put RA offside and looked arrogant with the 2 franchise only comments.
Now this TRC scheduling mess.

Making RA look competent.

You forgot that SARU directly attribute the decision to invite EOIs as the reason theyve gone north (though it smells fishy)

Maybe these administrators are all playing mind games to drum up interest for the championships.

The Springboks camp has been hit by a positive Covid-19 test with two players removed ahead of this weekend’s trial for the Rugby Championship.

The world champion Springboks have an expanded squad in Cape Town and are giving assurances that everything is "safe and secure" despite Cheetahs player Oupa Mohoje testing positive for the coronavirus.

The 30-year-old Mohoje, who can play flanker or lock with 19 tests to his credit, is reportedly asymptomatic.

Trevor Nyakane, who has been in close contact with Mohoje, has also been withdrawn as a precaution.

Foster getting appointed was actually supported by players poll. supposedly 46% disagreed, so seem 54% agreed .
There was ne way in hell a finals series was needed in Super Aotearoa, when you got 5 teams playing each other twice I thoink final series are wasted and said so here a number of times.
You right about getting RA off side though and the TRC mess, but you wrong about first 2 I think.

I think it was pretty clear Foster was a pretty long way down the list behind some of the theoretical options like Rennie, Razor, Joseph etc.

According to who? Hell I was keen on Joseph myself, but you read what you wrote, you have named 3 alternatives, and Razor himself has said he probably stuffed up a bit at interview, Rennie wasn't a candidate as RA had him from Feb, and like Joseph never applied. I know Foster is unpopular on forums, but so was Henry and Hansen and doubt whether they would of polled higher than 54% with players outside of squad.

Yeah im not basing my observation on any kind of statistical study (polls are bullshit anyway). Just seemed clear to me from the rhetoric coming out of NZ that NZ had left succession too late and had missed most of the good options.

Lol that's so embarrassing. Why would you come out swinging when you know there are minutes contradicting you? If relations are as toxic as they appear, I'd just assume they'd be leaked at some stage. Some very strange contortions are needed for NZRU to save face here

Add handling of dumping SA and Argentina out of super rugby as well - not saying was not right decision - but poorly handled
Making RA look competent.

What goads people is they continue to behave poorly (NZRU) but offer no apologies. They should have publicly apologised for approaching Oz super rugby sides behind RA’s back as they should apologise here for the attack on SANZAAR and others where minutes clearly state they agreed to the 6 weeks.

Best thing is our leadership (RA) is not meekly accepting their behavior as we have done before.

COVID 19 could potentially be the best thing to happen to rugby in Australia since turning professional.

The minutes haven't been released publicly -- even in redacted form -- so it's still nothing more than he-said-she-said, but now with an extra step. So you have to ask, why the extra step? If you have the minutes as an ace then release them and be done with it.

Exactly. Someone is bluffing. Either NZR are more than a bit slow or SANZAAR (and RA?) are giving the Australian media carte blanche with "anonymous sources say.......".

I got to admit RA under Hamish and Rob have not really put a foot wrong incoming together and in difficult times. Sure may not still get the desired outcomes but not through lack of effort from them. Funny to think 6 months ago RA was the laughing stock of world rugby and NZRU seemingly doing everything possible to take that mantle. I actually take no pleasure in that as I wish NZRU showed more evidence of being a credible and trustworthy partner to deal with as would then have more confidence of outcomes being achieved that serves both oz and nz rugby interests.

They're good at making us feel better but they still haven't done jack. It could all tumble down any second. I'll reserve my judgement for a bit.

Well at least no longer feel embarrassed about having them as our rugby board compared to 6 months ago

Absolutely, but a lower bar has rarely been set. For me the interim CEO must go. He is either implicated in the Clyne decisions or lacked the temerity to stand up to it. Either way that history is not over till the slaps his arse on the way out.

McClennan has been surprising and so far I like what I see.
