Anyone got Kefu beating up half the Irish side?
I asked about the footage from RWC 1999, but to no avail. Coupla nice short right hands from Toutai.

Shouldn't be too hard. It was on Irish second rower Trevor Brennan, if you've forgotten. There were some Irish complaints that Brennan was being held. BTW, how can anyone forget Brennan for doing a Cantona?

Regarding the Cannon punch on Mealamu, I remember it for several reasons. Firstly, it was out of character for Cannon. Secondly, it was a hard punch. Thirdly, Mealamu just rocked back, took it, and was unaffected. Wouldn't want to mess with Mealamu - he just looks a tough bastard.

If you're after a fight for a avatar, let's see someone finding Wendy Sailors' handbags in his first year of S14. It was with a Kiwi forward if I remember correctly, and both threw a hundred and landed: zero.

How does him twatting a wanker who - frankly - deserved it ("A sub-standard Irish pub, Trevor" - yeah, right, Bamford, that's what you yelled alright), eight years later, have anything to do with him being held from behind while Kefu was punching him? :nta: Big Trev, btw, is a lovely bloke; met him after the 2008 HEC final. If you're ever in Toulouse, go to his pub.

And Biffo? The eleven punches; count them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOI-HRx7pNE 0:40 to 0:50. At 0:12, you can see McRae pinning O'Gara down off the ball before he starts. The 2001 Living With Lions shows O'Gara being stitched up in the dressing room afterwards for the cuts to his face you can see on the video.

Moses isn't right on the life ban, but he'd be facing a lot longer, no question about it.

Worst thing ever still remains the deliberate taking out of Dodie Weir in 1997 by the stamp on his knee. Nightmarish. From personal experience, I assure that if you've ever had a knee injury, don't hunt for the clip, because it will make you feel ill.

Can't remember that one. Details, please?

All I remember is that Brennan carried on like a complete knob in that game against Aus in the RWC, and quite frankly, got "squared". Holding him or no - well, that's not on. What I liked was that Kefu dealt some nice short right hands. And didn't miss.
McRae? Well, that was just a shocker, possiblt provoked to a minor degree, but I won't go there again after being warned on this subject a year ago...

I've no objection to the idea that Trev probably did deserve a smack; what wasn't on was the manner in which he got the smack he deserved.

Jeremy Paul's involvement?

Playing Mpumalanga in 1997. Doddie Weir (spelling corrected) was playing a stormer. So Marius Bosman sees him working the ball out of the ruck, wanders up around the side of it, and stamps, full-force and deliberately, on the side of his knee, bending his knee backwards and pulping it. He was never the same player again, and his Lions career ended there. Bosman wasn't even suspended. It was, in the genuine sense of the word, evil.

Jaysus, I'm agreeing with you! Calm down, calm down, no need to go Big Trev on it... :lmao:

I remember the start of the 91 RWC quarter btw Ireland and Australia. Phil Mathews (I think it was, the skipper) took out Willie O from the kick off and Willie fired up like he hasn't before and chased Phil 40ms. Phil, wisely, back pedalling fast.

Poido had a drink with Phil after the game and asked why, of all people, did he go for Willie. Phil just said it was the plan to put the Wallabies off their game and Phil had just gone for the closest man without realising who he was. He was lucky to last the game.

Thommo; Brennan may be a nice guy now/off the field, but he had a real reputation for being an idiot on it. Loads of suspensions. Suspended for life (repealed?) for jumping into a grand stand and punching a fan. Doesn't matter what the fan said, pro sportsman should take it.

But I guess if you're gonna flip, flip good and flip big. And flip at the end of your career. Plus most sportsman probably wish they could throw a few at a fan in their life time. Brennan got most of that right, but the biggest shame was that he didn't learn from Cantona and try a flying kick...gotta hand it to Brennan, you could never say he had class on the field, and he kept that reputation till the end. :fishing

Now, early Trev, I'd agree, we had a few problems regarding that condition that one medical alickadoo of my acquaintance defines as a Grrrl - namely, a sudden uncontrolled rush of shit to the brain.

However, when he went to Toulouse, he really got it under control. An absolute hero there. The little gobshite in question, Patrick "Bam-bam" Bamford, claims what he shouted was, "A below-par Irish pub, Trevor". The alternative version that others heard was, "Your ma's a c**t, Brennan".

Trevor's mother died when he was young. I reckon I know which is the more likely explanation. Universal agreement, even amongst the Nordie fans of my acquaintance, is that while Trev had to go for five years (and he's back playing oldies stuff, and no-one objects), said "fan" deserved everything he got. No disagreement here. :thumb
