Fox Sports still have no idea. FFS at least get the award right.

Just read the squad for Dubai - issued by RA yesterday, and Nathan Lawsons name is on it. Error or have things changed since the Leagur gloat above?

I think he's just got a bit of time left on his 7s contract, doesn't join the dragons until the end of the year

The main issue with 7s is also arguably it's biggest drawcard.

The only viable way to earn a living is playing on the international team and doing the world tour, which is great for young ones, but as soon as they've done it a few times and reach that 25+ age bracket, the lifestyle doesn't exactly lend itself to starting a family etc. For anyone that follows the main players on socials or knows them personally, you'll notice as the players mature, they end up heading back to real home as much as possible, even if it's just for 2-3 days and away from the 'home-base' in Sydney.

International tour circuits can definitely work in sport, e.g. motorsports, tennis etc. but the big difference there is cash and a product that lends itself to multiple days and hours of screentime advertising and exposure, 7s simply isn't a great product for TV either in that sense.

So not only do our best players start wanting to be based at home more often, they also aren't getting paid as well as their professional home-based counterparts playing in Super Rugby, NRL and NRLW.

I know none of my post is really news to anyone, but I think it's going to expose some real issues going forward particularly with stronger women's comps in NRLW and AFLW. The 7s program may just end up being their auditions for full-time contracts elsewhere.

Despite both teams missing out on Medals in Paris, Rugby 7s has been given a 34% increase in funding from the AOC over the next Olympic Funding cycle
How much of the 7s overall income is from the AOC? Is this a big change for them?

Hard to find a breakdown, but Womens 7’s was reportedly funded(by govt) to the tune of $2.5million p.a. in the lead up to Paris, Men were likely less for a variety of reasons including medal chances and availability of other finding lines.

We gotta get more support to the Women's 7s somehow. Maddi Levi is our best rugby athlete in the country by a country mile. I'd argue statistically she's the best current Australian athlete of any footy code, men or women. She just broke the 7s tournament record with 15 tries in one weekend. She is a genuine freak and gets 0 attention.

NZ Men 2/6 for the weekend & beaten twice by Spain. They'll claim to be in a rebuilding phase due to retirements & Leo going to loig but that's still a massive fail.
