The silly thing is that we are mid way through the comp, the Tahs have won 2 from 8 and are a still a live chance to make the finals. Not that I'd be putting money on it though.

Heading into last night's game I wondered if the 2nd half comeback v the Canes was their turning point, that they could win most of their remaining games, finish at the top of the conference, get their shit together for the finals and actually be a threat for at least the first round of the playoffs. It's hard to comprehend that now though.

Credit to the Kings though, even though they played mostly crap as well, their determination to win was stronger and that's what got them over the line.

It is a psychological problem mostly for Australia. Yes, there are some average athletes but we know good coaches can change that. It really is all in the mind at the moment.

Yep Ullrich, I agree a good coach will certainly help get a player believing they can win, and not just hoping. Also agree there seems to be some average athletes playing the game here, and too be brutally honest I hope cutting only one team is enough to cull some !!

It's all about ambition, friend.

There doesn't seem to be any.

I recall being so pissed at being walloped by my school's A team (I was C then B) every training session that I caught a kick and ran straight and fucking mad at the forwards. As I reached them I pretended that I was going to chip over (into their 22) and then ducked as low and ran as hard as fuck as I could with a 60Kg body into their entire pack and clenched to the ball with all my might with both arms.

Turns out my forwards took some encouragement out of it and it became a good forward going maul. Earned a penalty and 3 pts. Still lost badly but there was a great gulf between A and B then.

It earned me an A team spot on the bench for which I got game time. That was my first and last. Too small I guess.

I was 12 at the time.

So I wonder whether there's any of that left in the tank currently in Australia.

The problem isn't personnel, it's attitude. They have a deep roster filled with good players. For some reason it's not working on the field, and last night was a prime example.

They expected to win by 50, and didn't show the necessary respect for the opposition, the ball, or the fans.

In any professional football code the coach would be sacked after this sort of record and trend over last 2 seasons. Gibson needs to go and if they retain him behind this season that would send a pretty poor message on performance expectations.

I agree, I posted after the Reds beat them that I hope that the Reds management spoke to players from the kings to try to recruit them.

They have massive talent and unfortunately they will be kicked out, I think in 3 years time they would actually be a pretty good team.

They are an 80 minute team and are dangerous.

Tahs have too many 'pay cheque' players, they prefer to participate only when they have an advantage.
It's easier/better not to rush back & try and snuff something out, if you will be under pressure with a high probability of an error.
Let someone else do it.

Face it, lads: the school and club systems just aren't good enough. And they've never had the impetus to become good enough because there is no strategic plan at either level, or the one above it i.e. the ARU.

I said earlier that this game was a crap shoot, and so it came to pass.

Lions dominated the Tahs set piece. Tom R is a deadest pot plant.

Hooper's post match interview was quite disgraceful. Sure the team played shithouse but to nag the forwards out publicly is terrible - that stuff should have been said behind closed doors. Maybe for once in his life he should push in a scrum and not blame everyone else

That kind of stuff is the probably the reason he, it seems, is generally disliked at all levels.

The best I can say on this game was that it was exciting. Well done Kings

What an absolute joke this is. The Tahs don't even deserve to be awarded the wooden spoon, I'm sure they'd drop if they were awarded it anyway. The FACT is that no Australian side deserves to be in cooee of the finals, that they will have a representative there is representative of what a total farce this whole competition is.
