Round 4: Rebels vs Brumbies 11 March 7.45pm AAMI Park

Second time nu penalised taking the ball in and being isolated…
I actually think it is the other players fault. It is something that has happened consistently at Rebels. It is as if they don't expect their team mates to make a good run or make a line break. They don't support the runner. Used to happen a lot to guys like Amanaki Mafi and Isi Naisarani.

To be expected when the two centres have a grand total of 6 Super Rugby games.
True, but defensive weakness in our centres isn't something new. We have never been good at recruiting there with the exception of Ellison, and he gave little in attack

Carter Gordon's passes are absolute bullets. When he is accurate it makes a real difference as he can get to 1, 2, 3 or even 4 players away so fast the defence has to guess where it's going.

A real change from the usual loopy ones we have had recently
Really? I thought a couple were ripe for the intercept. He pushes them close

They are, but he still throws them way too often. Softly does it a much better approach for the short ball.

Thought tonight Philip was out played. He’s been a regular shining light in our shit team but not tonight. hope he steps up. Kellaway needs to improve too but tough ask after such a long break.

Samu was invisible, Valetini impossible to mark.

He literally had two hands on it while it was on the ground
Nah, tried to pick the ball up and had it knocked from his grasp by Reimer. In truth, almost a try to Reimer - would have been if his hand was still in contact with the ball when it touched the ground.

He has his skills, certainly, but his passing game is about as far as it goes at present. Didn't take on the line, nor put in any successful tactical kicks. Has a monster boot though.

Tom Hooper had a fine game in what I think was his starting debut. Only turning 21 this year , lock stocks looking good .
Hooper MOTM for me. Banks and Wright certainly prospered out wide, but Hooper was in everything in tight and that was where the game was won.

Of course, the Brumbies will now be accused of warehousing four of the best locks in Aus rugby with calls for at least two of them to be relocated elsewhere.

Went flat at the line which created space for men outside him. Gave him the option to drop it back to an angled runner ("sawtooth attack") or go flat to the hit up.

It was the injection the Rebels needed, and the Brumbies were struggling with the speed of it, conceding back to back to back to back penalties on several occasions.
