Round 4: Rebels vs Brumbies 11 March 7.45pm AAMI Park

Interesting parallels between To'omua and JOC (James O'Connor) at the back end of their careers.

To'omua was the gun schoolboy flyhalf and played well there in his first years of Super Rugby for the Brums

JOC (James O'Connor) always more of an outside back

Rebels fans blowing up about playing To'omua in arguably his preferred position whilst JOC (James O'Connor) leads the Reds in another strong Super Rugby season at flyhalf.

No real comment on the game. Go Reds.

Banks is simply superb to watch in that form. Just outstanding. Love it when it backs himself to get through a half gap. He’d be one of the first names picked for the Wallabies if he could transfer that form to the National stage.

And that Valetini try was an awesome display of power. Those Rebels players looked almost scared of him.

I'm hopeful he keeps it up into the second half of the season against the kiwis, I think he'll need to be coming off that form against stronger opposition for it to click against England. If it does the wallabies picture starts to look so much clearer.

Hooper had a storming game. Just kept driving after contact. Also thought Mogg had a good game with some nice touches, but MOTM for mine was easily Banks. He looks this season like he has regained his speed he lost with his injuries.

A couple of comments on the Brumbies coaching in this game. I was especially disappointed with the decision to play Noah at scrum half when White was carded. With little doubt, Nic was not returning to the game at 60 minutes gone, and a halfbacks work at the scrum and lineout requires a specialist in the position. Opportunity should have been taken to replace Noah, who was very ordinary all game, by bringing Ryan Lonergan on as Nic departed.

Again, I reckon too many changes were made too early and it again served to make the Rebels look better late in the game.

Some things they need to consider for next week's contest against the Reds.

I’m assuming they’re trying to give the bench extra minutes in the games they think they’ve got in the bag.

Wouldn’t be surprised if the starters stay on longer against the Reds

That’s essentially what a flyhalf does…
That's what MT does at the moment and gets caned for. I'd argue they need to actually create space for those outside them as well, which is something he has never done (and why he has always been a bust at 10).

I don’t think To'omua was as bad as many people are saying. He wasn’t brilliant but he was solid. He had terrible service inside him from Powell and his centres aren’t giving him much either.

On the flip side Simone was excellent and caused a lot of havoc in that channel

Historical revisionism…
