Rob Horne is among my absolute favourite players in the game right now. Does everything at 100% intensity, defends fearlessly and is always unselfish in attack. He runs hard, makes busts and creates space for those around him.

I've said before I think he's one of our best players we've produced in a long time and we haven't seen anywhere near the best of him yet. Unbelievable defender really, always does everything at full intensity, I just hope he can stay fit. I'd pick him over AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) purely because he's a dominant tackler. I think the quality of a dominant tackle is quite overlooked, it completely stops the opposition momentum and prevents quick ball. We don't have anyone else in the backline capable of a dominant tackle so Horne is a must.

Played a storming game last night, did Rob. It'll be good to see him and AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) battle it out for the 13 jersey this season.

AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) may suffer come World Cup time for being extremely good in many positions yet tue best in none. Not sure how he'd do as a super sub.

Horne is certainly one of the best defenders we have produced for a while, however I am yet to see enough from him to class him as one of the best attackers. I haven't yet put him with Little, Herbert and Mortlock.

Maybe so, but we've seen glimpses of it. Was it last season in his first game back off the bench (in Sth Africa?) that he created a try by running through a couple of players where there didn't seem to be space and getting the ball away to Mitchell. Although he's not a massive bloke, he seems to have a knack of slipping tackles and finding space.

Notwithstanding Tom Carter's improved passing game, I don't think we can discount the fact that Horne plays and has played most of his rugby outside Carter and is therefore going to get less opportunities than playing outside a 12 who creates space (in the more traditional sense). Before the rest of the Carter family on the site jump down my throat, Carter does create space by drawing defenders in its just that he usually takes the contact and its in the next phase the space, if its still there, is able to be utilised.

I'm sure Lee Grant would remember the Australian Schools game vs NZ at Joeys in 2007? That day Rob Horne absolutely decimated the Kiwi Captain, who had to come off injured- if memory serves me correct he was then on the spot to score winning try.

you gotta love the guy, works so hard and it shows. Im very curious to see how he would go at 12 for the wallabies (heard he played a lot of 12 b4 super rugby) as that would allow the likes of AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) or even Digby to be on the field at the same time, as I just cant see how we can possibly leave out AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) and Digby (assuming Mitchell has a wing spot). Plus the sound of a Horne/AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) centre pairing sounds solid in defence and with those 2 running good lines off a quality flyhalf Id say it would be a strong combo in attack as well. There's no other answer to 12 yet.... is there??

It's true what they say- he is the second coming of Jesus. Let's hope he can stay fit because the bloke is pure class. Add me to the list of those who wouldn't mind seeing a Horne/Ash-Cooper centre combo for the Wallabies. Half of me thinks he is just a shade too small to play 13 on the international stage, but would make a dominant specimen of an inside centre even against the best in the world. That said he seems to have been hitting the roids just as hard as the rest of the Tah's during the off season and at 21 has some more physical development to go so he may indeed have the power to really cut it at 13 for the Wallabies.

My word - and spectator was there too. Horne was the MOTM IMO. I spoke to him after the game as I noticed he had been talking to some Tahs suits. I asked him if he had a contract yet, but he said no but lowered his head. It's what my boys always did when they were telling me a fib. It came out the next day or the day after that the Tahs had signed him. No doubt he had been asked not to tell anybody.

He has been a top player since I saw him in the U16s and hardly ever has an inferior game. As I have said a few times he often played 12 for NSW Schools to accommodate players who could only play 13. He was a terrific player in the position and could use the ball and do a bit of tactical kicking too.

That was a while ago and I don't think that the Tahs will be using him at inside centre when outside centre is not a position that can be offered to anybody else of quality.

I'd still like to see him get a run there - maybe at the back end of a game that is won already.

Recently viewed the full matches of Aus Schools v England and NZ in 2007.

From that and having seen him in the super comp since 2008 the guy is a freak. His wiry frame allows him to be nimble on his feet whilst also providing enough power to break tackles all over the place. His footwork, tackling, defensive qualities and offloading are all top class.

He sometimes bull rushes out of the line but his tackling is so dominant that he often gets away with it. Robbie Robinson (highlanders sub) was captain and 12 for NZ that day and he was outclassed by Horne. Highlights are on youtube if you need a reminder or proof of his talent
