No surprises this week however Avondale Uni. game was closer than you'd expect.
Had a meat pie at Shoalhaven park (recommended) this week instead of a steak sandwich, good but still not as good as the Bowral steak sandwiches.

05 Jul Shoalhaven 10 v 27 Shamrocks
05 Jul Camden 47 v 10 Bowral
05 Jul Kiama 22 v 21 Tech-Waratahs
05 Jul Avondale 18 v 15 University

Mick McTaggart has put together a quick write up for the Brumbies Provincial Match tomorrow night at Canberra Stadium. Should be a tight encounter, the Provincial Team have got the wood over the Police, but they matches have all been very tight.

From what I have seen of the Police outfit, the starting XV are all very handy, but chinks appear in their armour later in the game when it comes time to sub on some reserves. This should be a cracker of a game if you're heading over to watch the Brumbies get up over the Force tomorrow night!

CCRU round 13 (sorry for the delay I have been laid low with the flu all week)

Ourimbah 31 (Kaleb Pritchard 2, Brenton Law, Toby Carver tries; Brenton Law 2 conversions, 1 penalty goal; David Laidlaw 1 conversion; Toby Carver 1 conversion) d Avoca Beach 12 (Sam Fortey, Matt Maloney tries; Matt Maloney 1 conversion)
Woy Woy 97 (Junior Stowers 5, Sione Toki 3, Chris Hitch 2, Jovesa Kunawave 2, Matt Riddle 2, Fokolula Taumalolo tries; Matt Riddle 11 conversions) d Northlakes 5 (John McKenzie try)
Terrigal41 (Adam Danckert, Sam Kenny, Ryan Atkins, Luke Dwyer, Ryan Metcalfe, Chris King, Mitchell Hirst tries; Adam Danckert 3 conversions) d The Entrance 5 (Jarrod Black try)
Kariong 28 (Scott Ford, Shannon Beavan, Ben Tafua, Jake Holwill tries; Scott Hanley 4 conversions) d Warnervale24 (Dylan Smede 2, Ben Gillies, Tevita Moala tries; Ben Gillies 2 conversions)

Another big win by Ourimbah, they are shaping up really well in their hunt for a maiden premiership. Avoca have been hit hard by a number of mid-season retirements, which though the timing is a little surprising (usually players would wait until seasons end unless they all have suddenly been inundated with work commitments) it looks like their golden era may be coming to an end. Another big win by Woy Woy in their hunt for a semi berth, Jeremy Paul's Terrigal are building nicely and congratulations to Kariong on achieving their first win of the season.

Quick update from Hunter/Newcastle.

Mens. The teams to watch as recommended by BarTV is Uni v Nelson Bay. This should be a tight game. You can view it in the following link come 3pm Saturday (or go to the local sports section in the Newcastle Herald Webpage).

And their youtube channel below.

From the women's side of the game the second half of the year is almost up & we are going into the finals. Lake Mac has improved despite being at the bottom of the ladder. University has gone along looking solid & quite capable of upsetting the top two teams but they've lost two players to the women's RWC coming up & that is going to hurt their chances. Greens/Merewether & 2Blues/Wanderers are the top two & I'd be surprised if they don't end up as our grand finalists. Greens were red hot at the start of the season but the 2Blues have come back & have overtaken them as favourites IMO.

http://www.nhru.com.au/ Shows this weeks line-ups in Mens.

Below is this weeks Rugby News. Very good review of the Newcastle Uni v Nelson Bay Gropers game & a decent preview of Wanderers v Merewether-Carlton.

http://www.portprint.com.au/nhruround15/index.html

Not surprisingly 2Blues v Greens is game of the round & will be aired live on BarTV. Link below. Wanderers are undefeated so far this season in Premier 1 & Merewether need a win to get their season back on track. The derby always seems hotly contested between these two so it should be a decent match.

The women's semi's were completed last week at Walters Park (Lake Mac home ground) & semi final B Wanderers beat Merewether-Carlton. Scores for that game have not been printed. Semi final A saw a massive boil over with Lake Mac Roos beating University 32-29. No team sheet has been put up yet by Uni so I don't know if they were definitely without their x2 Wallaroos players but either way this was unexpected by probably everyone except Lake Mac themselves. UPDATE: Uni were without their two Wallaroos players.

The Roos will now face the Greens at Walters Park again tonight to see which team will face Wanderers. I have no idea who is going to win this final. Roos have improved but did they play their best game last week? As for the Greens they've gone into a slump after what was a terrific start. UPDATE: The game time was changed to Saturday after premier 1.

IMHO I'd love to see Lake Mac go all the way given the team has never won the women's GF before. However, given what Wanderers have been dishing out recently I'd have to say they are in the box seat for another GF victory.

Update on the womens Rugby. Walters Park Finals Lake Mac 12 Merewether 19. According to a mate who plays for the Greens it was tied with 7min to go. Sounds like it was a cracking game. I may drag myself out to the Grand final Greens v Wanderers at Townsend. Greens get a home ground GF, still think Wanderers go in as fav's.

CCRU round 16
Terrigal 18 (Nathan Simpson, Ben Heaton tries; Adam Danckert 1 conversion, 2 penalty goals) d Avoca Beach 10 (Matt Anderson try; Matt Maloney 1 conversion, 1 penalty goal)
Warnervale 26 (Josh Rennie, Scott Fitzpatrick, Jack Stonestreet, Tevita Moala tries; Ben Gillies 3 conversions) d Gosford 22 (Adam Carlisle 2, Simote Lauti, Sam Underwood tries; David Von Kotze 1 conversion)
Ourimbah80 (Brenton Law 3, Steven Pike 2, David Laidlaw, Tyler Jones, Brett Marchant, Brett Cunningham, Clint Guyatt, Ryan Pike, Jayden Pearson tries; Brenton Law 10 conversions) d Kariong 10 (Brendan Learno try; Scott Hanley 1 conversion, 1 penalty goal)
Woy Woy 99 (Jovesa Kunawave 3, Fokolulu Taumalolo 2, Junior Stowers 2, Daniel Campbell 2, Siosifa Fehoko, Sione Toki, Jarryd Wise, Kelevi Vatubuli, Matt Riddle, Drew Little tries; Matt Riddle 12 conversions) d The Entrance 5 (Ropati Telea try).

A couple of big results this round with Terrigal knocking off Avoca Beach - I have mentioned before there is a symmetry between Avoca and Sydney Uni over the last 15 years with both seemingly winning premierships and losing in the same year. I am wondering if this year that will happen again with Avoca joining Sydney Uni in not making the grand final.
The other big result is Warnervale knocking off Gosford, who have really dropped off the pace of late. Woy Woy and Ourimbah have continued to dominate posting cricket scores against some of the competitions struggling teams, which is usual for the coast as there always seems to be two halves of the competition - the semi finalists who battle with each other and the rest who get belted by the semi final bound teams and have a good tussle amongst themselves.

A big surprise this week with Avondale going down to Camden in a rerun of last years final. This doesn't alter the over all standing as Avondale have cleared out at the top.
The other big game this weekend was Shamrocks vs Vikings in a cliff hanger with Vikings kicking a conversion from the sideline after the bell to win by 1 point (what is it about after the bell victories at the moment). A tough game played in the usual Shamrocks v Vikings spirit, with the ref getting a lot of assistance and handy hints on how to ref from the crowd.

16 Aug University 27 v 15 Kiama
16 Aug Tech-Waratahs 21 v 10 Shoalhaven
16 Aug Avondale 7 v 21 Camden
16 Aug Shamrocks 19 v 20 Vikings

CCRU Round 17
Terrigal 45 (Daniel Sargeant 2, Tom Lowe, Aaron Carrigg, Adam Danckert tries; Adam Danckert 4 conversions, 4 penalty goals) d Ourimbah 21 (Brenton Law, David Laidlaw, Brett Marchant tries;
Brenton Law 3 conversions)
Warnervale 57 (Brennan Wanstall 3, Ben Rennie, Dan Murphy, Jack Stonestreet, Cameron McNamara, Jordan Clark, Owen Turner tries; Ben Gillies 6 conversions) d Northlakes 21 (Michael Ferry, Tui Valu, Mick Moore tries; Ross McNair 3 conversions)
Gosford 33 (Simote Lauti, Richard Cully, Dave Von Kotze, Chris Heap, Unoi Vaenuku tries; Tim Hill 4 conversions) d The Entrance 14 (Matt Burraston, Piripi Murray tries; Adam Little 1 conversion; Matt Burraston 1 conversion )
Avoca Beach 66 (James Latham 3, Mitch Graham 2, Max Stewart, Julian Bacigalupo, Luke Sheridan, Brad Mitchell, Matt Anderson tries; Matt Maloney 8 conversions) d Kariong 0

Ourimbah going down to Terrigal has seen the race for the premiership become interesting again as prior to this the razorbacks looked as though they were on the march to their maiden premiership. Avoca Beach has bounced back with a convincing win over Kariong and they should never be written off at finals time so it looks like an interesting finals series on the Central Coast this year. The final round is this weekend.

Very late with my women's GF result from Newcastle but hey we all get distracted.

The game was Wanderers v Greens & was at the Greens home ground. I predicted a bit of a belting coming from Wanderers & that's pretty much what we got. 46-5 Wanderers (going by memory as they score has not completely been recorded). The game was won & lost in the 1st half. Greens did not play well & Wanderers were switched on. If was far more competitive in the 2nd from the Greens but too little too late. Wanderers will be going for 3 GF wins in a row next year. Something no women's team has ever done in Newcastle.

Now that the women's season is over I'll have some more time to dedicate reporting to the mens which is well & truly into the nitty gritty part of the season.

Is that game indicative of the general standard of the NHRU comp because if so it's pretty good.

That game was 1st vs 5th, two of the top clubs through the years. The standard is pretty good aside from the couple of bottom teams. The semis started this weekend, the 2v3 game was yesterday

If you look on that youtube channel they have the live stream for today's 4v5 game at 3pm too.

CCRU Minor Semi Final 30th August
PREMIER 1
Woy Woy24 (Apisai Vatubuli, Tevita Tangi Noa, Fokolulu Taumalolo tries;
Matt Riddle 3 conversions, 1 penalty goal) defeated Avoca Beach 19 (Matt Maloney, James Latham tries; Matt Maloney 3 penalty goals)

Fantastic result this with Avoca Beach missing the grand final for the first time since the very early '00s. Out of the three teams remaining Ourimbah have never won the title, Woy Woy from memory won a title either in the late 70s or early 80s (though that may be wrong) and Terrigal last won in 1996. Past hatred of Terrigal has me hoping the 2Woys and Ourimbah make it through to the big dance but just pleased that Avoca are GONE!

Lower Grade Results:
P2
Gosford 34 (Mitch Cornwell, Richard Cully, John Sullivan, Adam Clift tries;
Damien Montgomery 4 conversions, 2 penalty goals) defeated Avoca Beach7 (Brookelan Morgan try; Sam Evans 1 conversion)

President's Cup
Ourimbah 33 (Michael Pollock 2, Paul Leef 2, Greg Woodbury tries;
Michael Pollock 4 conversions) d Avoca Beach 8 (Dane Booker try;
Zane Tredway 1 penalty goal)

Colts
Terrigal 13 (Liam Archer try; Josh Bridge 1 conversion, 2 penalty goals) d Warnervale 5 (Netane Tonga try)

Great day for all the other clubs with Avoca bundled out of all senior grades with only their U19s (colts) still in with a chance of a title(not sure about juniors though). They'll need to open the chequebook for next season.

Premier 1 Mens.

Southern Beaches have reached their first ever grand final in the main event. Congrats to them! They defeated Wanderers 24-21.

Hamilton are facing Merewether right now, the winner to face Wanderers next to see who will meet Sth Beaches in the GF.

Here is the Hamo v Greens game live via Bar TV.

And a replay of the historic Southern Beaches win here below, great game:

Hamilton v Merewether. Great game but Hamilton can feel extremely hard done by. The called back try for Hamilton looked good to me & the game should have been FT when Mick Gill knocked the ball on. I'm betting we'll see a Wanderers v Southern Beaches GF in premier 1.

CCRU Major Semi-Final

Ourimbah25 (Caleb Pritchard, Brenton Law, Ryan Pike tries;
Brenton Law 2 conversions, 1 penalty goal; David Laidlaw 1 field goal) defeated Terrigal 12 (Ryan Metcalfe, Guy Schofield tries;
Adam Danckert 1 conversion)

2nd Grade
Terrigal 24 (Rob Richardson, Cameron Strachan tries;
Tom Cleary 2 conversions, 3 penalty goals) defeated Ourimbah20 (Luke Strong, Steve Pike tries; Michael Hourn 2 conversions, 2 penalty goals)

President's Cup
Woy Woy 22 (Paul Vulivosa, Joseva Koroiravu, Nick Grant, Mick Markham tries; Nick Grant 1 conversion) defeated Terrigal 7 (Scott Wilkinson try;
Scott Wilkinson 1 conversion)

Colts
Avoca Beach12 (Blake Jacob, Jake Bradbury tries; Mitch Jacob 1 conversion) defeated Gosford 5 (Chad Sneyd try)

Great result in firsts, Ourimbah is the first team through to the big dance, I think the last time was around 2000. Will this be the year that they finally take out their maiden premiership.
