Central Coast Rugby Union Round 3 Results and Reports
Woy Woy 33 (Tevita Tangi-Noa, Fokolulu Taumololo, Siosifa Fehoko tries; Matt Riddle 3 conversions, 4 penalty goals)
d Ourimbah 26 (Tyler Jones, Zane Tetevano, Matt King, Junior Stowers tries; Ryan Fenning 3 conversions)
On an absolutely perfect Central Coast day for rugby, the Premier 1 match at Ourimbah Rugby Park went as expected, down to the wire with either team looking able to claim the win. Ourimbah were able to gain some ascendency in the first half, going into the break up 19-13. Unfortunately for the Razorbacks though, Woy Woy came back in the second half and was able to get ahead in the match through the boot of Matt Riddle who did not miss a kick at goal. With Ourimbah giving away penalties in their own half, it was Riddle’s successful kicks at goal which would prove the difference. Halfback Sione Toki was outstanding for the victors, leading his team with some great individual runs. For Ourimbah, five-eight Ryan Fenning was impressive in his side’s loss. The win puts the reigning Premiers into the winner’s circle and gives them some much needed confidence, while it gives Ourimbah two losses in a row and the pressure goes back on them to stay in the Top Four.
Terrigal 26 (penalty try, Ryan Metcalfe, Tom Lowe, Adam Danckert tries; Adam Danckert 3 conversions)
d Warnervale 3 (Josh Rennie penalty goal)
Terrigal ran in four tries to defeat the Wildcats and have set themselves up as the benchmark so far this season with three strong wins. Terrigal scored very early in the match and never looked back with halfback Doug Angus having a strong game alongside his two locks, Phil Heard & Joe Taylor. Warnervale were again served well by halfback Brenton Acreman who was strong in all aspects of his game and well supported by his flanker Richie Houston.
Avoca Beach 42 (Luke Sheridan, Max Stewart, Chad Martin, Matt Anderson, James Latham, Daniel Aguirre-Acevedo tries; Matt Maloney 6 conversions)
d Hornsby 29 (Todd Williams, Alex Marango, Mitch Fullager, Leveni Huavi, Siani Latu tries; Sam White 2 conversions)
It was the strength & height of the Avoca Beach forward pack that proved the difference between the two sides, with the Sharks dominating the set piece all game. However, whenever the Hornsby backline got the ball they made many metres up the field and managed to score 5 tries in their loss. Avoca were bolstered with the return of lock Peter Steele and he, alongside his long-time teammates, prop Luke Sheridan & flanker Emile Thomas, had great games for Avoca. Hornsby was best served by their centre Alex Marango & Leveni Huavi, who played in nearly every backline position during the game. Avoca got away to an early 21-0 lead, but Hornsby pegged them back and even got in front 24-21, before Avoca used their forwards to give them the means to score the necessary points to grab a win.
Gosford 18 (Hugo Pike, Joel Wagner tries;
Tim Hill conversion, penalty goal; Josh Reid field goal)
d Kariong 12 (Scott Hanley 4 penalty goals)
Gosford kicked an early field goal through five-eight Josh Reid, and managed to keep their noses in front until the full-time whistle blew. Only just though, with Kariong giving everything they had towards spoiling whatever Gosford threw at them. Gosford’s flanker Hugo Pike scored a good try right on half-time to give the Red Devils a 13-6 leave going into the break. Kariong pegged this back early in the second half to make the score 13-12, but after a some great defence kept Kariong tryless, Gosford were able to run in the winning try to halfback Joel Wagner. Number 8 Mitch Cornwell & centre Tim Hill were both strong for the victors, while for Kariong, five eight Scott Hanley scored all of his sides points and directed his team well.
The Entrance38 (Matt Burraston 2, Jarrod Black, Madison Sedgman, Ben Harrison, Russell Hughan tries;
Matt Burraston 4 conversions)
d Northlakes 3 (Matt McNair penalty goal)
The Rams ran in 6 tries to defeat the home side. Madison Sedgman, Chris Baird & Matt Burraston all had strong games for the victors.

Worrying signs for Northlakes if the Rams (no offense intended as I am a retired Rams player) can put them away this efficiently). There has already been talk of them playing lower divisions in Newcastle which would be a shame for the Central Coast competition as IIRC Northlakes (or Wyong as they were known then) were a foundation club back in 1975. Hope they find a way out of the mire and back to where they were in the mid-90s and possibly even 1998. With people like Scott Moroney around there club I am sure they will be fine.
As to the rest of the competition it seems that 2015 is the most even competition it has been in many a year with perhaps 6 or 7 clubs in with a realistic chance of making the play-offs at this early stage of the season.
