Interesting the TAB have the Tahs at $1.60 and the Reds at $2.25. The Fact is that while you might be defensively better off without Quade, Offensively you will be nowhere near the same. Historically the Reds have started slow and the Tahs have hit the ground running. The Battle between Genia and Pretorius will be incredible, but Genia will be burnt out from playing 50,000 games last year with little time on the bench. BKH and Tom Kingston have the x-factor and are looking to prove themselves to challenge eachother for when Schmoo comes back. AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) is all class. Once again, Cat, TPN and Keps will literally eat your boys at scrum time. And for those of you worried about the injuries we may have picked up last night, every player that came off wanted to stay on. Next week we will be ruthless and play until we die, because, at the end of the day, we can lose every came except the two against queensland and still call it a successful year.

Cat, TPN (if he gets on and if he gets on, then how long), and kepu - generally good scrummagers but have nothing on Reds front row for the rest of the game - Reds blokes are mobile, hard working and play for their team - Tahs always kick and kick and don't back themselves (unless into a corner) - anyway, NSW have never had the passion (just like in league) that queensland display - talk it all up old mate, as much as you like but it will be a great game, played between states with a history of competition - may the best team (on the night) win - and just put $500 on Queensland - pretty good and surprising odds IMO

Barnes & Tahs hooker Fitzpatrick both came off the field early in their trial game against Tonga 'Ç' grade last night.
I'm glad Barnes isn't in the Reds anymore, he's a basket case.
And if TPN & Fitzpatrick are both out next weekend, then why turn on the TV set.

If they are out its Ulugia vs Fainga'a or Hanson. Ulugia would be the best scrummager of those three and he proved last year to be not too bad around the park, though he does tend to play tight and not like an extra seven. If selected, he won't be the cause of our demise, in the unlikely event we get beaten.

1. No arguement there. I can't wait.
2. So you are prepared for a very unsuccessful year? ;)

When was the last time the Tah's beat Qld twice in one year? Not counting trials I'd say you'd have to look back a number of years as they've only met twice in one season in Super Rugby once. And seeing as Qld had the wood over NSW for a loooong period of time before the current NSW streak, broken last year incidentally, I'd place my bets on Qld.

For those with short attention spans & those who have a disregard to the history of the game pre professionalism. There have been 17 games between the two teams since 1996 with the Reds winning 9 to NSW 7 with one draw...... That lead will be extended by 2 this year!

BKH and Tom Kingston have the x-factor
By x-factor you must obviously mean the xylonite factor. Unfortunately xylonite has a tendency to soften under heat..
So in that, #1 Tah, I absolutely agree with you.

I have no doubt this will be a tough match, but to name BKH and Kingston as the 'X-factor' players on this match is completely farcical.
One should wipe their mouth after speaking such nonsense.

Our back 3 will definitely be the weakness. Beale, Mitchell and Turner have been the best part of the Tahs for the last 2 seasons and it was arguably the best back 3 in the comp those 2 years as well, they provide us with so much creativity and spark in the backline and they're our main tryscorers. Now we go into the first round with a completely different back 3, not only that but the two wingers will be rookies and they have to contain one of the best backlines in the comp. Will be a huge ask for them and even AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) as he tries to fit into the team.

Actually, that's swayed me. The X-factor of BKH (who?) and Kingston (who?) will definitely be the dominant factor. Especially as the Reds have no X-factor players that even compare - only losers like Genia, Tapuai, Higginbotham, Ioane, Samo, Morahan etc.

The Tahs will do what they always do. Put all their eggs in the scrum basket, kick aimlessly and rely on the x-factor of one player (swap Beale for Pretorious) to get them over the line.
If you haven't heard of Kingston by now, might I suggest that you will become much, much more acquainted in the future. Just a feeling.

@qwerty51. Therefore, do you see the 'tahs being more inclined to play 10 man rugby, keeping it more amongst the forward back and taking it up the centre of the field?

We'll take it wherever we think there's a weakness. If that's a rolling maul straight up the guts while your loosies are seagulling, sobeit. If its straight through the 12/13 channel with AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) to finish, we'll take that too. If its running the ball back from one of Genia's aimless box kicks, all well and good. If its pushing your scrum back 20 metres, we'll do that with relish. I don't think Peyper will cop what happened last time.

We'll take it wherever it comes.

I'm looking forward to seeing Genia's "aimless" box kicks being countered so easily and effectively, just as they were by the Crusad... oh shit wait, sorry.

Good luck Tahs, you'll need it.

Where to start?

1. Genia/Harris will be just as good as Pratorious/Barnes.
2. Reds have scored 9 tries vs serious opposition. Well done Tahs for flogging a bunch of amateurs. Can only think it was setup to give the boys some confidence with a couple of wins. Now for the reality check.
3. Genia has been in great form so far from the match reports.
4. Front row will be interesting, think the Reds will definitely have improved more than the Tahs. Fat cat hasnt played for eons so i'm expecting it to be close.
5. Who are the 2 backs you claim have xfactor and what have they done at this level? Reds back 3 will all over them.

Tahs to win. Simple really.

Read will have a hangover. Tahs have a new coach, new energy and more first choice starters in their 22 than they've had in about five years.

Any fool can see it. :)

X factor is all pretty moot. If the ref allows ther eds to cheat as much as they were allowed to last year anyone will find it hard to compete.
