That makes perfect sense and I agree with your points regarding Genia.

Ruggo, it's Genia's kicks that worry me. They are slowly but surely getting Barnes-like under pressure: too quickly executed when containing possession looks far more prudent, often ill-delivered high and direct to a good opposition player in good space. Then a fired up opposition, loving the gift, mounts a productive counter attack and the ensuing possession is used to send us 10, 20 whatever metres backwards, having to tackle on the way back like demons, and ending up in a wholly defensive posture with much lost territory and zero, absolutely zero gained from the initial kick.

Look at Genia's kick forward around 30+ mins in (fatigue has me forgetting the time precisely) when IMO there was absolutely no sound tactical reason not to treasure possession and work the ball in phases up the field (as the Reds did so often in 2011 to productive effect). Possession was gifted away and, directly or indirectly, it was the clear turning point in the Sharks points revival and improved attacking execution.

I have just grown to hate toxic, wasteful gifts to opposition via unnecessary loose kicks forward when they are neither truly needed, nor productive. Look at what this type of kicking did for the Tahs last night.

The reds will still come on top of Aus ladder, automatically in the finals all the boys will be back to there best. And go on and win the title again. :) all good, it good to have a loss early on

Still watching the game. Very unfortunate that the Sharks were able to get 2 relatively easy trys there in the second half. Given the disarray the Reds were in it doesn't look too bad going forward but, so easily could have been our game.

Despite the fact Harris and Lucas went down, the game should have been sealed in the 1rst half.
I'm not to worried with the loss more worried if Lucas and Harris are unfit for next week

Yes, I think we lost it in the last 5 of the first half. We should have been 3 tries to nil up if we didn't push the passes on attack or drop intensity in defense at the end of the half.

Haha a 12 point margin is a big call PB, I suspect it will be a lot closer than that. Both teams have started slowly with the key combinations taking time to gel. I think the home ground and travel factor might edge it towards the Sharks and they'll win by 5 to 8 points. With the focus on defences at this time of the season as well as the slippery conditions in Durban at this time of year I don't think it will be a high scoring game.

What about Link aka 'The Messiah's' decision to play a 5/2 split on the bench? Came back to haunt him in the end.

Bb, assuming Link would have gone with a 4/3, whom in your opinion is the added Reds back that would have credibly been the savior, and, by your inference above, made all the difference.

Your jibe at Link noted (obviously deserved as he's lost a single game), but do you think it's an easy scenario to plan for and deal with your 2 10s getting injured, one v early in 1H and another early in 2H?

It is obviously not an easy scenario to predict and I don't know the Reds greater squad well enough to comment on who could've been on the bench. However you do take a risk by having no inside back or goalkicking replacements on the bench.

My jibe was not actually directly at Link. My jibe was in fact at some of you Reds fans who clearly think the sun shines out of Link's ass and that he is the ultimate coach who has the specific tactics and game plan for every situation.

Example 1:
Fucken love how Link looks at things. Wont give into the Media or Foxsports hype, He brings it all back to Rugby with his answer... So he knows he safe when the muppets are firing dumb ass Questions and he Replies with comments like he does... All they have for the next question is "When Quade Cooper back?" Follow his 121 tweets a Day..

Damn I wouldve loved to have stayed up to watch this. That was the plan but St Paddys day caught up with me around 12:30 & had to lay down (it was either that or collapse & dry reach).

Hopefully I'll see a replay.

Couldn't agree more, Link's been annoying this year, especially his whinging comments about teams being cynical against the Reds.

Well done to the sharkies on the win, it was a courageous come back and they pounced on the situation perfectly.

To be fair to link, if lucas and harris didn't go off injured I highly doubt we would have lost that game. For 2 and a bit years now the reds have been taking a punt on the 5/2 bench, and it took both our fly halves being injured mid game for the game plan to fail.

It does however make you wonder why link went with frisby over murphy on the bench, considering he had lucas in the team who could have acted as back up halfback.

Lucas was on fire before he went off - showed much more than harris had. Davies was both brilliant and horrible at the same time. Morahan is like a qld version of rob horne - supremely talented yet under performing.

Reds will be very disappointed to lose that game but it is an understandable loss given the circumstances.

I think the last line of Bowsides post sums it up. It's a loss I can cop, losing two playmakers against a quality side was always going to be tough. Credit to the Sharks, someone eluded to it before, but we lost that game in the last 5 mins of the first half.

Also does anyone actually know the extent of Harris' and Lucas' injuries? One of them didn't look too bad (cant remember due to being half sleep).

Digby has been cited for foul play and I suspect he might be slapped with a 1 game ban.

Which leaves us without 9 available backs in the squad, and I 100% don't want Radike on the wing. What's Toua, Fainga'a and F'Sautia's injury status? They might need to be flown over.
