Things I liked,
- Defence on the line was solid for large stretches, even when down to 14 players.
- Lynagh 100% kicking from the tee
- De Lutis 60min on debut
- Forwards bench split(Nonggorr, Faessler and Blyth coming off bench made a massive impact I felt).

I thought the Ref mic was meant to be played throughout the stadium? I had absolutely no idea what he was sending the Reds off especially Fraser who was supporting his body weight?

Overall it felt like a game the Reds never got out of third gear which was mainly self inflected due to playing 30 minutes down a player.

I think we're unfortunately being too kind to Moana here. They shipped over 50 points playing against 14 men for almost half the game. They had some flashes of brilliance but they had back to back 10 minutes of playing the Reds with a man advantage and did nothing. Their option taking was silly, all those tap and goes when they had scrum advantage with Smith off.

Reds will need to radically lift from here though. Glad to win it especially with some fantastic tries.

Yeah at the ground all three times we had no idea what was going on. Didn't help that people were walking in and out during the rain downpour either.

Don't think that game will be on Paul Williams highlight reel.

Didn't get to watch it live but managed to watch a replay this morning, pretty happy with that overall, can't really ask for more than a BP win for the opening game.

First 15 minutes was superb, lots of the big names like Wilson, McReight and McDermott hitting the ground running is a great sign. The period of ill-discipline is far from ideal, but I think it was down to two things - they've been really building this game up as a chance to atone for last year's loss and they may have over egged it just a bit, and they're clearly going very hard at the ruck which makes sense the way it has been referreed this season. Even with the penalties I think they got plenty of play from that pressure so I don't mind them overstepping a bit to find where the line is.

Really impressed with the defence, a 30 minute block played down a man and held really strong throughout. In that first half Moana had to spend something like a minute in the 22 per point scored. It definitely wore us out, but the strength of the bench and the quality on the park meant they could regather and blast them off the park.

The impact of the off season program is pretty clear, Daugunu looks like he never left, Canham has slotted straight in, and lots of guys look to have improved but the big winner from it has to be Asiata - he has come on in leaps and bounds and Nasser is going to struggle to unseat him. De Lutiis was also great as a 21 year old prop on debut, did not look out of place at all. The excellent support play the had on the UK tour was in full evidence too, there are options everywhere on the line breaks and most of the long range tries could've been finished by 3 or 4 different players.

8/8 conversions is a very good sign too, I don't think Lynagh (7/7 tonight) has missed a kick yet this year.

Lots of work still to do around exits, precision and detail, but that's a very good base to lay at the start of the season.

Narr he got pinged because he was laying on the ground and swung his arm at it and knocked it back, was a yellow card every day, specially when MP (Moana Pasifika) was on attack

Encourage you to watch it again. I can’t screenshot because Stan has anti piracy tech but McReight is nowhere near on laying on the ground. He was being rolled out of the ruck as he did it so if the ref had said hands in the ruck that would have made a bit more sense but you hardly ever see that being pinned since they have started interpreting jackaling as hands directly on the ball.

Moana targeted Lynagh’s channel all night and he tackled extremely well…

with Jock at risk of missing games, really wish Reds still had Floyd Aubrey on the books. Gordon is the natural replacement, but Kiss mentioned Anderson also.

I’m not one for hyperbole but I think McReight is the love child of Pocock and Hooper and will lead Australian Rugby out of darkness. He has the tenacious pilfering of Poey and the speed and attack of Hooper. He’s glorious.

He's just superb isn't he. Great over the ball, runs excellent supporting lines and exudes leadership. We've had this incredible production line of great back rowers over the years and he's the latest one of them.

I thought the ref called him for having two chops - which I thought waa correct. Agree he wasn’t off his feet but thought the yellow was a tough but fair (from memory Williams had just issued another warning to Tate about discipline and said next penalty would be off.) Likewise I thought Ryan Smith’s was pretty tough, but correct. I figure lots of those will get missed/let go but if he ran the gauntlet than it’s fair enough.

Ref called him for off his feet, hard to tell for us, but the ref was in perfect position to judge it.

In any case he definitely has a second crack after the ruck had formed, and knocked the ball out of the ruck with his hand. It's a blatant penalty, he knew what he was doing, and the ref's hand was forced because it caused a turnover.

You can ignore lots of them if the attacking team retains the ball, but you can't ignore those
