OK I have watched the replay now and here are my thoughts:

Marto can make sense sometimes - "Lazy chase and lazier players in centre field." Depressing thing is he is right and it describes most Oz kick chases. I really hate bombs - especially when the teams just don't try. Either learn to handle them well, or don't bloody well use them.
Handling was crap on both side all night. Understandable considering the weather.
I hopw the Reds are going to play the full 80 at some point in a game this season. Work for the coaches here.
Lots of times the Reds got their hands on the ball but didn't get the turn over. This seems to happen a lot with Oz teams including the WB's. Why?

Harris - Nice place kicking from hand, good defence, good place kicking (though he nearly missed one), he always seems to get through the first tackle.
Morahan had a shocker. I think that the first kick shattered his confidence and he couldn't pick it back up. There were flashes of brillance but generally not a good night.
Shipperly - doesn't shy away from tackles, and pulled off some good ones.
Taps - Bloody brillant try. He should have been tackled but has obviously been doing some work on his strength.
Shatz - showed some good defence and some good work around the park. Hopefully there isn't much in the should injury it appeared he got late - both packs ended up on his shoulder but he didn't go off.
Stannard - Played well. Made some really good decisions around the park.
Anae - needs to practice his throwing. Having said that i think that the calls should have been directing him to throw to the front at least at the start and that would have made his life easier.
Diggers - good work at the breakdown in the second half. Conditions played against his game.
Genia - I think perhaps I just expect him to play well all the time. First time I noticed that he plays without a mouthguard.
Cowan - Played well.
Stanley - showed some promise at 12. All we need in this country another bloody centre.
Cummins - This is the 23nd week in a row thast he looks like the energiser bunny on speed. Is the strapping to keep his hair out of his eyes or to keep his head on?
Samo - beautiful read for hi try.
Mafi - showed some intelligence about the play. will be good to see how he goes during the year.
Poey - what can I say? Part of me hates him, but the other part just loves him to death. The try he scored just shows his strength. I am going to think that way and conviently ignore the missed tackles. I am allowed. I am a Reds suporter.
Simmons - Good workman like game. He has learnt to hold his temper.
QC (Quade Cooper) - looked quite at home in the coaches box sending messages to Harris.

For the contraversies:
Diggby didn't obstruct Poey before Tap's try.
No forward pass before Stannard's try.

Reffing:
On rewatching the replay the reffing wasn't that bad for the first ref. The whistle just kept going for the knock ons and that was understandable.
Ref no. 2...... what can I say. World's shortest advantage.

Personally I thought Simmons had a poor game by his standards. Just seemed to have one of those games where he just couldn't get going.

Well done to the reds the force are their own worst enemy.

Watching live I thought the ball from genia to taps was forward (if TPN's try last week that had to be forward) but in the end not sure it would have made a difference.

Gutted I can't be at the first home game this weekend as I have ti work down south (stupid field days) but I think all is not lost for the boys plenty of good coming out of the spirt show last night.

Agree, Simmons was average.

Yeah, ok He didn't pop up as much as he usually does. But then he didn't give away the number of penalities that he normal does either. He was in more rucks then he got credit for and didn't fuck up to badly. That is what I meant by workman like. my opinion.

Simmons is crap. He was terrible on the night but I have never rated him anyway.

Anyone catch the eye gouge from Harris? Can't remember who it was on but it looked dirty in slow motion.

The referring was quite inconsistent but even. I think they have to do something about playing going off there feet. If they penalize for it every time it happens they should be blowing the Whistle at every other breakdown. Saying this there was 2 refs and it was interesting to see the difference in the game when they changed.

I thought the force weren't bad but not very good at the same time. Scored 2 try's but lots of handing errors ( I know it was wet). It's good to see them get over the line.

Wills pass for the first try was fine. However Robinson should of been penalized for hands in the ruck before the try.

Some of the penalties against the force at the breakdown seamed pretty badly called. Marto said only 1 player can go for the turnover Haha.

All in all a good clash. the force should take a lot out of it scoring 2 try's but letting them selves down with penalties.

I tend to agree with Axel Foley, no one takes any notice of Martin. It was good to have the option of Kiwi commentators on Fox during the World Cup. the Force are in for a very long year seemingly, only the most ardent supporters would call their game on Saturday night anything shy of ordinary, a fumbling, bumbling performance. As for referees calls at the breakdown, I see changing trend underway, be most captivating to see if they have the where withall to keep reffing it the way they are. I would suggest that Anae and Hansen are both lacking in the throwing department, and at this level, from an attacking lineout, if I want the thing to go to 6, that's where I expect it to go, not some lame throw to 2 that wastes a full on attack opportunity. Too many excuses for poor performances from highly paid players. Some of the tackling leaves quite a deal to be desired.

The biggest problem for the Reds in this game was that they knew they were going to win, even before they ran on.
That belief was confirmed in their minds by the score at half time.
For themselves, they played a lazy second half.
Horwell, who didn't stand out himself, was right to express disappointment in their performance after the game.
Having said that, I can understand that after being totally geed up for the 'tahs the week before, its difficult to maintain 100% commitment a 100% of the time.

I think Sharp is becoming far too streotype these days, and I can see why Deans is looking for alternatives to him in the Wallabies.
When he rucks or mauls, there is never anything extra from him. He just goes in, pushes away, believing that his real contribution is the line outs (which obviously he is very good at), and standing off the mauls and rucks waiting for the ball to impact up the middle. The problem is he no longer really gets up over the advantage line, making extra work for his forwards having to marginally retreat for another ruck or maul.

The Reds will be happy with the 8 competition points from 2 games. They certainly havent gelled as a unit yet which is fine by me cause there is still a long way to go.

Defensively I think that was the worst performance in some time. Hurricanes last year was probably the last time they played that poorly in defence and the 2 trys they let in were soft.

I was surprised at how well the Reds did at the breakdown. I know many have commented on Simmos game but I thought he was very effective at shifting bodies. It wasnt flashy and there was no open field running but he did hit the ruck well and secured the pill for the Reds.

Scrum time is really hard to measure in weather like the weekend. Penalties were given either way when I dont think they should have been. I can recall 3 penalties given against the team that had good footings because the shoulders drop below their waist when the opposition lost their footing. But this did even out by the end of the game.

And MikeyMike Harris is quite amazing.

Moving forward I think the Force will struggle particularly as injuries will expose their lack of depth.

The Reds will get better as their current injury woes are managed by Link and they get their frontline players back. Really looking forward to the backend of the season when Chris FSautia is fit, cause he is going to surprise a lot of oppositions towards the end of the season.

Well done Mr T. Well known Tahs supporters here have elsewhere been terming this a 'lucky' try in a game the Reds were 'lucky' to win. Yeah, right, just a win by over a 2 converted try margin, we were lucky.

A question on that
If Pocock managed to push Taps out of play or disrupt the try by tackling/pushing Digby into Taps would that be as penalty against Pocock for tackling a player without the ball or would it be considered fair play?

I can't even see why there is a question. The only question to have been raised, if Tapuai didn't socre, Pocock probably tackled the support player early or without the ball. You are perfectly allowed to hold your line, to be obstructive, you have to change your line to obstruct.

Thanks for the analysis Timms that certainly clears it up for me. Fair try.

I still think the in general the Reds whole win was lucky (very much the same way my team was very lucky to have beaten the Blues by 1 in rd1) just given the way they played & the amount of chances the Force blew. And that's not coming from a Tahs fan. If I were a Reds fan I'd be pretty happy to be developing a way to win ugly.

That's not what I am asking. Since Digby is allowed to hold his line and since Pocock can't obviously phase through Digby is Pocock allowed to bundle them both out of the field of play or tackle Digby into Taps to disrupt the try.

It is purely hypothetical.

It's a good question. I don't know, but I will find out.
