Horne had a bad game.

I would like a Taps/Horne centre pairing too, but unlike others I would prefer they played in their more natural positions with Taps at 12 and Horne at 13.

I get frustrated with players getting put into "test" sides on no recent history of form and very little game time.
Stop moving Tapuai, I'm hoping for a 12. Tapuai 13. Horne Wallaby combo this year
Didn't Horne miss half his tackle and do nothing in attack last week?
yeah sure
He hadn't had a bad game here

7 tackles 5 misses, 2 runs for 13 metres and gave away a penalty.
Did you change your mind after reading the stats?
I forgot how one bad game means you're automatically shit
Sorry I didn't mean to imply he was shit. I think he has never played for long enough to really get an impression of how he plays. I also can't see how he brings bulk to the backline at 90Kgs

Just to throw the cat amongst the pigeons - IMO Taps would make a brilliant 10. Fast, robust, good hands, reasonable kick, good tackler - saw him play at 10 with brother Rex outside him a couple of years ago and have always thought that 10 should be the number on his back.

Mmmm, he has played it in the past with from my opinion limited results. I truly believe he is only a 12, but I would be very happy to see him develop into a 13 as well.

got bored and thought i would point out that 3 of the 5 in this background aren't in the starting lineup this weekend

The Reds actually have a lot of injuries now, although most are minor niggles.

It's a testament to the strength they've developed over the past couple of years that they can still put out decent teams (and yet be such a massive favourite to win on the weekend) with so many first choice players out:

Fainga'a/Hanson - first and second choice hookers, one returning, one with a niggle, one will be out, the other on the bench
AWH - reserve lock, back in a couple weeks
Higgers - starting blindside, rested with a niggle
Cooper - starting 5/8, back mid season
A. Finger - starting 13, rested with a niggle
Davies - starting wing, returning from injury on the bench

Seven players who were in last year's 22 (5 starters) that are either out or on the bench due to injury.

Absolutely fair call and at the same time I'd only put one of them in the Reds top 5 overall best players. That is not meant to be a diss on the other four. More pointing out how deep the talent runs.

You did just describe JOC (James O'Connor)..

O'Connor is still not a 10 IMO.

10s should look to set up others as a first instinct (Barnes, Cooper)

12s are run first with ability to distribute (O'Connor, Giteau, Tapuai)

Only thing is I would put Baarnes as 12 instead of 10. But agree with the principle.

By my calculations there are actually only 22 fit players from a squad of 31 at the moment (including a hooker with a niggle on the bench). So I think all available players are in the match day squad. Wise move to rest those with niggles, given there is a South African tour in a couple of weeks.
