Good close match, I need to do few hail marys I think to compensate for my language at the end there. You blokes must be loving it that richie gave away the last penalty!

Although a bad decision at the end cost the sweets the match, It didn't really. Reds were smart and a penalty would have come later on im sure.

Well played reds.

Re THE penalty, Ioane was still on the reds side standing with his hands on Carter. He'd been there since the ruck formed. I can see how the penalty was given. I would have been lesss surprised to see it NOT given, sure, but how many times does that happen in a game of rugby?

Bloody great shame that a rugby match has yet again been decided by poor officialling.
How long do we have to endure this as spectators?
Stuart Dickinson and his mates on the touchline should feel ashamed of their performance.

I will go on record to say that penalty was pretty harsh - they had driven right over and he went in to pick it up to pass it. Looked wrong to me. Stu will be lucky to not get assigned any games in NZ any time soon.

Was a bad call. However, I can think of no better way of winning a match than in the 80th minute as a result of a penalty awarded against McCaw. The number of times Australian teams have lost matches in the last few minutes is amazing.

Very gracious. A tough game with some questionable decisions. Reds were a bit lucky but they also defended well to be there at the end.

A Crusaders win wouldn't have been out place, though. Hard luck mate.

Thank god we have one victory where those dirty professional fouling Crusaders get what they have been dishing out for years at least from that victory over the Brumbies in Canberra in the freezing cold with snowflakes falling. sucked in. I know that is ungracious.

I feel exactly the same way.

Leading up to the winning penalty kick the Reds put together 20 phases taking 3 minutes and 6 seconds.
There were 16 penalties in the game, Crusaders 11, Reds 5, which is below the 20.8 average per game ref Dickson has been force to award this Super 15 season.
The Reds lost 3 of their 18 lineouts and the Crusaders won all of their 11. Lineouts became a feature due to the high kicking game with 64 tactical kicks from the hand (Reds 33, Crusader 31).
The ball was in play/contestable for 22 minutes and 4 seconds in the 2nd half, well above the competition average of 16 minutes 32 seconds.
25% of the 2nd half the Crusaders spent inside the Reds 22, compared to the 13% that the Reds spent inside the Crusaders 22.

Shame is, all the poor decisions went against the Crusaders. Fwd pass for 1st try, accidental offside off of the scrum prior to Genia's try, knockon in the lead up to THAT penalty and then the penalty itself when the Reds were clearly pushed off the ball. All resulted in points. Pathetic effort Stu!
Is time the IRB made the ruck area unambiguous. Currently it's a lottery. We saw the current law policed at it's worst today.

Agree with this. If people are going to have a go at Dickenson for his dodgey performance, there are much better decisions to criticize than that last one. It was 50/50, McCaw was very impatient.

The bloody Reds had me pulling my hair at times. Great too scrape the win though and great to know we can win intense games like that when misfiring. Like other Reds supporters I don't think my pooper valve will open till we know the prognosis on Beau.

Let me guess you've used the same rigorous scientific measure in making this assessment as the "Crusaders only score on counter-attack".

Beau Robinson has got the 'rub of the green' in every Reds game he's played this year, and tonight was no different.

Have to agree ACT!

Crusaders were absolutely robbed. It looked like a stitch up. There was no way that was a penalty at the end. Ball on the Crusaders side, no ruck and Richie on his feet.

Very odd decision by Carter to kick it deep though? WTF was he thinking? Richie only has himself to blame for taking the points and not the scrum. Wish Canno addressed that in the post-interview.

Even better played by MR. Cheers for the gesture of good sportsmanship.

Simply amazing game. Apart from the set piece the reds forwards performance was outstanding, back row in particular. On form they should all be wearing gold come tri-nations time, Robinson a very able backup to the 'cock. Great to see some real depth in australian rugby.

I thought the last penalty was harsh, but it was great to see Stu keeping the crusaders in line. NZ teams always push the rules and infringe, always, so you need to assign a ref that is not afraid to penalise them when they do.

So is someone else going to start the Liam Gill SOS thread or should I?
