Huge game this week in Brisvegas I'm hoping the Reds & short suffering Broncos fans get along to this game to cheer the boys on. I would love it if we could get 30 thousand in this week.

Win this game & we'll move into the top four, lose & we may drop to 6th.

Tough game coming back from Safari but the Bulls haven't really set the world on fire during their tour down under so I'm confident we can get up on saturday but we'll need a lot of R&R during the week I can't imagine the Reds will get out of the pool or off the massage table until friday arvo for a captains run.

At the start of the year I would have taken five wins for the entire tournament but now we're in the hunt I want a semi final & maybe even a final.

Reds by 1 will do.

Why you greedy bastard !

I think the Bulls will murder the Reds with the maul & grind them into the dust with field position and pressure. I see a great humbling on the cards for the Reds. It was nice while it lasted though.

i expect that mauling is someone the reds will focus on in the leadup to this match and should be pretty prepared

Shaping up to be a cracker. If the Bulls exploit the forwards to there full capacity, then the reds will lose. If they only slightly exploit thek (probable) than I think we will have a great ball game on our hands. Doubtful of getting 30k, as Noddy said in another thread 25k will be max.

I forgot that if the Reds win we move into the top four and the Tahs may drop out.

Hopefully the Brumbies get up against the Canes as well.

I'd like to see Hardman and Byrnes starting this game. We need to have as strong a set piece as possible. I think Fa'ainga lets us down a bit in this area. We are also going to need our loose forwards to have a blinder.

I'd start S Fainga'a. He is more likey to win turnovers which the Reds do so well from.

i dont think that Hardman contributes that much more in the tight that he warrants the starting position over Saia

Fuck, can't wait for this game, first Reds game I am going to this season.

The Reds just gotta play to their strengths, which is their backline. The Reds have also had poor discipline this season, which against poor opposition hasn't been much of a problem, but with Morne booting them from all over the shop, they need to cut this aspect out of their game pretty quick smart.

The match up of the round: Genia vs Du Preez

S.Finger certainly provides more to the rucks and mauls then anyone else in the tight 5 I think.

G&GR Chalkboard

Link said via twitter that he's been dreaming tactics for this game for months.

So what are yours for him? (and "loosies/backs/quade/tight five playing well" aren't what we're looking for.

I'll start off with

1) The transition zone. As Burgess exploited a few rounds back, the Bulls fan their pigs out leaving gaps just outside the ruck. I'm expecting a lot of those flat pop passes from Genia and a big display of his running game. S Fainga'a works well in this channel along with Van the Man and Byrnes. Could really do with Leroy stepping up.

2) Kirchner. I reckon he's very rattle-able and with Rocket Rod and Morahan putting a good kick chase together (like they did this week), this could be a good source of pressure and territory. With Habana gone, back 3 danger is a lot less.

3) Lineout. Like the Bok gameplan, this is the key plank of their territory game. Let them have it unopposed/without pressure, and you're giving them carte blanche. This is Van's chance to push the Wallaby squad by getting in the air in front of Victor whenever possible. Alternatively, let Byrnes and his teeth off the leash.

Other thoughts?

I think smashing Victor Matfield at every opportunity ought to do it.

Start Fainga'a and use the experience of Hardman at the back end of the game. Fainga'a don't do so well off of the bench. Both wingers to sit deepish in defence in defence, ready to take any quick lineout options. If the forwards can hold parity, let the backs do the damage. Pick and drive the shit out of the tram tracks to draw in those fanning piggies that Gagger mentioned. Most importantly it must be about what we do. If we can stick to our game, we can frustrate the Bulls into doing silly things.

Houston and Higgers man marking (but not double teaming) Spies. He must be stopped.

Forward runners attacking slightly wider. If the likes of Higgers and Houston, in particular, can get behind the line, it will open up space. The Reds have a more mobile pack and a better 7. I would try to move the Bulls pack side to side and then unleash Cooper et al at tired Bulls fatties hiding in the backs. That is where the Reds will win the game.

Reds by 10.

If Link doesn't follow the G&GR game plan I can't be responsible for what might happen.

Does anyone think this yearly fixture would be a fun Red Bull sponsorship opportunity? The "Red Pull Plate".

Lame idea I realise.

yeah, I'd keep FaingaaS starting but would consider Schatz for Leroy. Big task up against Spies, but Braid is the man to put on him.

The Bulls will maul from every lineout and run Spies straight at Cooper/FaingaaA.

For mine, how the 10s dictate (or are able to dictate) will decide the game.

Looked to me that Cooper was the Fullback in defence last week so more likely A Fianga and Chambers. A believe Hynes was defending at Out Centre.

Cooper was definetly standing at fullback in defence off set pieces..

Its actually a really smart move, not only to protect Quade from defence but it also lets Quade sit at the back and interject himself when required, works wonders on turnover ball.

It doesnt happen more often becuase its very difficult to find the right balance, often causes confusion.

The Brutes only have to look at the Shark blue print to knock the Reds over easily. Keep the ball with the forwards, maul them, dominate the lineouts and defend well. think at this stage the Stormers do this even better then the Brutes.

Brutes by 12 +

The Reds should aim to get at least 40% but they also have to play the wide game and have to play a 80 minute passionate game at home, like the Blues did two weeks ago. Anything less and they'r dead.

That's where it worked a treat on Saturday night. Cooper seems only to need that little bit of extra room
