Spot the sour fan. Couple of years back the Brumbies score 4 tries to 1 (or was it 2) and lost a game due to plenty of transgressions. I believe the Reds won the comp that year.
does scoring more tries mean you're more deserving of winning a match? Do disallowed tries also count?

I'm OK with 19 all - pretty fitting given how well these two teams are coached/drilled.

The deliberate infringing on their own try line (both Reds and Brumbies) is a blight on the game.

I don't think the ref was experienced enough to handle that one, but I guess he has to learn somehow.

Seriously? He was excruciating. He jizzed his pants every time anything vaguely threatening happened from the Reds, he rails against perfectly legitimate penalties, berates Mowen for questioning the ref, but ignores the incessant chatter from many others (who weren't the captain so should shut up) then caps it off with his quarter-arsed plan to give both teams 2 points from a draw but play for more time until someone wins and give them 2 more. I just can't take the horrendously biased style that he, and Kearns too often bring to the call. They're clownish.

Biased commentary doesn't really bother me anymore, I'm used to it here in SA, especially during test matches. I thought he joked about the extra 10mins and 2 points for the winner lol. He only irritated me at the kickoff penalty late in the game for obstruction

Caxton street was pumping. I think that game drove people to drink.

I thought most of the disallowed tries were not tries, but I was sitting in shit seats so i couldn't see the screen very well.

The brumbies should have lost another man in the last 10 minutes. Ref needed to grow a pair.

That being said the reds should have taken the points earlier and then tried to score.

The pass Quade threw for the davies try was sensational. I'd like to see barnes and O'Connor do that.

I know this is against forum rules but Nic White was being a bit of a F*****t trying to slow the game down pretending he was injured at every scrum. The crowd cottoned on to it at one point and gave him hell. Not in the spirit of the game.

Just saw Rugby Central, Marto's got some guts standing there next to Deans after his comments earlier in the week about him.

What do the neutrals think about the refereeing? Brumbies fans think the were hard done by, Reds fans (including me) point to all the times they were penalised or advantage was played within 10m of their goal line and wonder how they didn't receive another yellow in the last 15.

Was it fair reffing? We're some of the Brumbies indiscretions as blatant as the seemed at the ground and deserved further sanction?

I was watching without volume but thought he didn't do too bad. The breakdown was a mess at times, and it just seemed he wasn't focused enough on the key aspects of this game (ie: he tried to manage too much when all that was important was clean ball at the ruck). There wasn't a clear standard set which made his (and the players') job harder.

Reds fans will feel hard done by with all the penalties given close to the line. But you have to understand the ref doesn't just keep giving cards out until you score. If anything Glenn Jackson held his nerve by not penalizing the Reds in those phases, because that would have been an easy way out of the tight situation. (it's probably what I would have done in that situation)

He had a tough job, usually games at that level almost ref themselves but the Brumbies and Reds are exceptions to that. I doubt Glenn thinks he approached the game correctly. Let's just move onto next week. No one was convincing so a draw isn't the end of the world.

Reds didn't take the points on offer and Brumbies were getting outplayed a bit around the park. Lot's of stuff to work on mid-week I'm sure.

The Bulls vs Kings game had all the makings of a 70's porno movie. Balls, Beards and Cheesy music.

^For Glen Jackson. He is the one referee I have been impressed with sice the first time I saw him in a game and that was the Stormers Blues game last year. You can see his experience in playing at highest levels is helping a lot and especially in giving advantage and when to blow it up as he can see when a opportunity is on or not.

Spot the sour fan - the Reds get away with just as much and got some seriously lucky breaks. A couple of years back the Brumbies score 4 tries to 1 (or was it 2) and lost a game due to plenty of transgressions by the Reds. I believe the Reds won the comp that year. The Brumbies performances against the Tahs and Sharks have been then best this year of any Aussie side - particularly the Sharks game in the first 40. I don't think the Brumbies will win due to lack of experience but they've only dropped one game all year. Give them some credit. The Reds have plenty of wins this year but haven't buried anyone. Points difference reveals that.

We will see. I'm not sour, just an observation from weeks ago.

Not sure why everyone keeps going on about inexperience in the brumbies. They must have an average age 2-3 higher than the reds?

Age doesn't equal experience. How many Reds players have Wallabies caps and have won a S15 final?

The ref didn't have a good match and didn't set high standards early at the tackle. You can't have laid back, laissex-faire style refereeing in a match like that. There were incidents which weren't penalised in the first 20 mins, which were exactly the same as the flood of penalties in the last 20.

He got himself into the position where all he could do was penalise because players from both sides were given too much latitude early. I also think at the end, he fell into a bit of a trap in only refereeing one side. By that I mean, he spotted all Brumbies infringements, but missed a few from the Reds. An example would be in the last 5-10 mins Reds had received numerous penalties and a Reds player was tackled in front of the posts with 3 Brumbies on their feet attempting to play the ball, but the ref ran another 30m across the field for an offside penalty to the Reds.

I also think that he should have demanded more respect from the players early. There was a scrum early where he penalised the Reds for collapsing and the prop got up and spoke most disrespectfully to him. Even Martin commented on it. Should have marched him 10 straight away. Was nowhere near goal kicking range, so wouldn't have effected points, but would have shown the players who was boss. Other than having the whistle and the uniform, he really wasn't in charge last night.

Well I went to game, and as a reasonably neutral rugby fan few things I came away thinking was
1 George Smith was about 2 classes ahead of Gill, (really shows when you actually at ground), though sitting next to mate with ref ears on, and he got a bloody lot of warnings from ref (if he was McCaw this mate would of been wanting to string him up),but shit he's good!!
2 For most of game had impression that Reds maybe looked individually better players, but Brumbies had better game plan (better coached??)
3 Digby Ioane plays well, but not sure he remembers that a good wing can attack on the outside, or perhaps he lost confidence in his pace, he always trying to jump and jiggle, never seems to try and beat anyone on outside.
4 Geez I love this game of rugby, and actually being at game live is better by 3-5 times for actually watching the game, and how good some players are compared to others.

You were lucky he didn't ping your scrum more. The breakdown was a mess because the Reds wanted to make piles of bodies within 5 metres rather than take points then re-set I.e. win the game.

Attacks from further out are always more likely to succeed because they're clear cut.

Not the adaptability I was expecting from the home side. If Davies didn't have crap hands you could have won that

What a game. My random impressions after 1 viewing;
- Cooper did exactly what was needed, in my opinion people highlighting errors in that game are being hypercritical, if anything Genia made more. He keeps playing like that he will be Wallabies 10.
- Really impressed with Gill
- Smith got away with murder, must be the halo effect, and I don't think he would v lions, but what a player
- CL won the centre battle
- I was impressed with Palmer around the park, some really good work NFC, on his scrummaging but given the scrums while he was on can only assume he did ok...
- saw some great hits by To'omua, shame the last one went so wrong
- hats off to the Reds for the gameplan, they made it work, just held out by an incredible defensive standard, the Brumbies were breathing real hard at end of first half then came back out and did it again. Right game plan though, Brumbies couldn't maintain possession
- loved the passion, what a game, any other result would have been wrong.
