Reds 2023

Ignoto

Peter Sullivan (51)
Yeh I struggle to see him in my best 23 at the moment.

Daugunu
Petaia
Aubrey
Grealy
Flook (preference at 13)
Campbell (preference at 15)

Are all contracted players I would have ahead of him. And Joey Fittock looks the goods, I'd have him there as well. I'd also be looking at Matt Garland from Easts as 13/winger cover, but he wasn't selected for any of the Challenger stuff so they mustn't be keen.

I haven't seen anything of Aubrey to comment. My gut feel with Grealy is, he's a foot short of being a great fullback for the Reds. I just don't see his body type excelling in a game that's so dependant on contestable kicks/catches.

Flook I agree with you should be 13, but the poor kid needs to have a full season under his belt where he doesn't blow out his shoulder before being ahead of anyone.

Daugunu is such a streaky player as well. Does some absolutely amazing things, then does one or two stupid things to undo it all.

There has been a lot of talk in the media recently about sponsorships of teams and whether the product they are selling is an important consideration before their money is accepted.

Do any Reds fans have issues with our sponsors?

The issue with Netball Australia is interesting, and one of my first thoughts was can we get the money for Rugby instead.

For me, I don't really care who the sponsor is, I just want the funding to support Rugby as a whole and think that if the product is legal then go for it.

If I had to choose what I don't like the most it would be gambling advertising but I realise that this can be an incredible source of money so can live with it.

I'm not hugely comfortable with the degree of involvement and 'sports-washing' from Santos, but I can't really begrudge the Reds for taking the sponsorship either. I also wouldn't be against individual players taking a stand against it ala Pat Cummins. That said I probably have a bigger issue with players promoting NFTs than any individual team sponsorship the reds have at the moment.

Gambling sponsorship I absolutely hate in all sport though and if the reds signed a major gambling sponsor I'd probably have to rethink my membership.

I'm going back to the future here - I think Petaia showed far more actual promise as a 13 - is an average winger and it was pie in the sky to see him as a FB.

9. Mcdermott 10. JOC (James O'Connor) 11. Daugunu 12. Paisami 13. Petaia 14. Vunivalu 15. Campbell
21. Thomas 22. Creighton 23. Flook

I think there is too much value in a centre combo of either Paisami/Flook/Henry to squeeze Petaia back there by choice.

No doubt there will be some injuries so Petaia will likely get another shot though.

He also has shown that, on the wing for both the Reds and Wallabies, he can consistently get over the try line if the opportunity presents itself

Agree, if the company is producing / selling a legal product then it is up to an Individual to decide if they want it or not for THEMSELF.

If an employer generates cash flow from a legal product, then uses the cash to play it's employees, then all good.

If an employee has a problem with how the employer generates the cash flow then the employee has the right to decline it or move on to another employer who they align with more closely.

Time to park the hypocrisy. Can't say one thing (ie anti fossil fuels) then use the product (fly in a plane)

sorry to go down this vortex but why the hate on NFTs? They don’t hurt anyone… I think they are pointless paying for a jpg when a screenshot is sufficient.

Petaia was an accomplished fullback at school but only found his way to 13 due to that being a vacant position and him being too gifted to not put out on the field.

I also thought the reds offense was a lot better when Petaia played 15 and they moved Jock to wing. (That also due to Jock being a great winger too)

Personally I am pretty disappointed in Dave Rennie to not give Jordan Petaia a legitimate shot at the position, yes I know he knocked himself out 2 mins into his first test rugby start at 15 and then Kellaway earned the vacant position all on merit.

anyways how that relates to reds… we are one Jock Campbell injury away from Petaia playing 15 again. There’s certainly not any better options for fullback… I wouldn’t be playing Aubrey or Grealy ahead of Petaia.

My memory may be failing me, but didn't we do just that and play Grealy at fullback and Petaia on the wing in a game or two last season?

Too many exist as "pump and dump" schemes, exploiting popularity amongst celebrity to artificially inflate their value before the initial buyers cash out. To be clear I don't think players are fully aware of this and stand to potentially be victims of it as well, but that doesn't change the fact that it's their celebrity being leveraged to effectively scam people out of their money.

I also have broader problems with most of snake oil touted as 'web3', but that's getting well off topic.

All the simps who "invested" in Lana Rhoades' NFT pump and dump can claim that they once got f""ked by a porn star too.

On topic: Reds program yielding few and underperforming wallabies needs serious looking into by RA right now?

agreed. QLD needs to be making a significant contribution yet our players are seeming to fall short at the moment

Paddy James and Ethan Dobbins would have toured if not for injuries.

The tour will also feature a warm-up clash against Japan’s third-best team, the Kubota Spears

Great to see a few QPR guys getting their shot, particularly with an extra warm up game. Really feel for Dobbins though, he was in such good form at just the right time before the injury.

Whilst I agree the injury is unfortunate, I'm not sure Dobbins needed to show much more. He had a great QPR season, won a Premiership and impressed during the Challenger series.

If he's going to get a contract with the Reds (or another Super Rugby franchise) I think he's shown enough. As has been mentioned many times already, the Reds seem to be deep at hooker with Nasser, Faessler, Asiata and Blake (?) all signed. He might get the shot elsewhere.
