Reds 2023

Regardless of the specific Taniela issues - do we think the Reds will look to move Thorn into a Director of Rugby role from 2024 and promote Heeno to HC? Heeno could be too green for promotion after 12 months though, there could be an external HC appointed as well.

Seems like the idea has at least been floated, as the article mentions Thorn looking at internal options going forward.

Tupou is obviously very important from both a playing and marketing perspective for any team, but he also needs to WANT to be there.
I think you underestimate the talents of Heeno.
A year's "apprenticeship" will be more then enough for him.

Also I am absolutely against Heenan simply being parachuted into the role.

If we move on from Brad Thorn I want a proper interviewing process where as the best person is selected for role.

we may very well move on from Brad & Heenan might be the guy but let’s make sure we do our due process on our next head coach hire.
Pfft.
Lets get a home grown red blooded local talent in the role instead of a parachuted hired mercenary.

Waratahs woke up to the situation and appointed DC and had their issues turned around.

a little passion can go a long way.

Noice - what's Heeno's stance on bucket hats? Seems like he's our Laurie?

Not sure that see the point of so many rule changes at once in a game between two scratch teams

How will they work out what rule worked?

and I don't like the scrum rules, they seem to discourage the ability to leverage dominant work

I suggest time off during any delays, make the game three hours long

they did it in the BRumbies v Tahs game last week, and will do it in these two as well. It's a start.

While I agree with the widely held attitude of "more play and faster play" I cant see how making more rules is going to achieve it. The refs will have more on their plate which may lead to "missing" events or putting the focus on the "new rules" in preference to the "old ones"

For mine I would like see us have less rules and encourage more competition. Allow the players to contest and challenge their opposition.
Isn't this what William Webb Ellis did on a soccer field a few years ago?

Most of the flagged changes are just updates and/or providing additional structure to existing laws, which I think is the most efficient way to pick off the low hanging fruit that fans dislike (i.e. deliberate knockdowns, slow scrums/rucks).

The issue I see with removing laws (particularly around rucks, mauls, scrums) is that it becomes a messy shitshow that (smart) teams would leverage to slow things down even more.

The challenge to me is not to try emulate NRL, more taps in the NRC just made for a fast mess with fewer contests for the ball

Don't think Quade moved on because he didn't like the coach - it was the coach who said he didn't want Quade....

We lost Gill due to Graham being signed for another year though!
Plenty of QLD developed players have bounced off to other pastures.

We have to accept that we cant keep them all. Just a pity that we seem to lose some of the very best ones.

My understanding is these rule trials are all options being looked at for super rugby next year (or the year after). Testing them in these trials is a logical first step, not the entirety of the trial period.

Side issue really. But FP I just don't understand what you are saying here. Completely over my head.

QLD woke up and got Ewan McKenzie as coach and their issues turned around.

Where you are from doesn't matter, it is your skill level and perhaps more importantly your recruiting and talent identification that is the key.

Hence why Heeno is a great signing.

Has been around the QPR for long enough to know who can perform and is available. Wont need to use Youtube clips or "player agent" promoters as much as has been in the past.
