there’s one player I know who was recruited on YouTube clips and that was Taniela Tupou…

turned out pretty good… and think talentfinder is forgetting the role of Sam Cordingly

Hence why Heeno is a great signing.

Has been around the QPR for long enough to know who can perform and is available. Wont need to use Youtube clips or "player agent" promoters as much as has been in the past.
Just so we’re not throwing baseless shade about, which players exactly were recruited on their YouTube clips, and how has it worked out for them

never said they were recruited from youtube clips alone.

I was implying that the introduction to recruiters has been heavily by youtube clips and agent promoters.

By having Heeno involved he brings a wealth of alternative perspective from the Qld development grounds (QPR).

Wont through anyone under a bus but think about the ones that have been put on development contracts before playing senior ( not schoolboy) rugby that have not risen to the starting XV.

Haven't we recruited quite well out of QPR recently? There are 5 blokes who come to mind - Campbell, Daugunu, Paisami, Wilson and McReight who all played significant QPR games before making it to the Reds.

Seru Uru another example of someone playing QPR who will likely be a Wallaby in the next few years.

Do we really think the Reds suffer from a lack of QPR perspective?

No I think those names have enhanced the Reds and now I suggest we find more of them

The reality is for Australian sporting franchises, video highlights packages, whether they're posted to YouTube or distributed by a player/agent/team are a genuine way for players to be noticed.

We aren't NBA franchises who can afford to have multiple scouts on the ground at all times watching games, flying to different cities/countries and holding combines for large groups of potential talent.

TF I think it's great that you're passionate about Heeno's appointment. But the bloke hasn't even stepped foot inside Ballymore HQ yet and you've already appointed him the heir apparent to Reds HC role and the key recruitment and development officer.

The Reds are far from a well oiled-machine, but I think expectations need to be managed and they've done a pretty good job to date of utilising the resources available and developing/selecting some good players.

lol didn’t even know these guys had YouTube highlight packages… Harley Fox was with the reds? Guess we should fire Thorn for someone’s YouTube
just about every kid at school has a highlight package these days.

How else do you sell yourself to the European and Japanese clubs?

they are called Agents. They have connections inside the industry.

sure the highlight packages are up online for everyone to see… but ya think some Italian rugby club looking for a new qpr lock is just throwing out contract details in the comments of YouTube?

"Working alongside him will be Heenan, who will be responsible for coordinating the Reds coaching program, maximising the development of non-matchday-23 players and emphasising off-ball effort areas and attack breakdown.

The 48-year-old has established himself as arguably the most successful coach in Hospital Cup history.

Heenan took over as head coach of UQ in 2009, with the club falling to second-last the year previous whilst they endured an 18-year premiership drought.

In the 13 seasons since, he has led the club to the finals every year, winning six premierships and playing in nine Grand Finals, including last Sunday’s decider at Suncorp Stadium.

Heenan coached Brisbane City in the 2017 and 2018 National Rugby Championship (NRC), going head-to-head with Thorn who coached Queensland Country, and also spent six years with GPS before taking the top job at St Lucia."

1. Heenan has set foot inside Ballymore HQ previously - NRC head to head with Thorn.
2. "Development of non match day 23" suggest some involvement in recruiting

All I say is I see it as an impressive apprenticeship he has served and bloody good set of credentials he brings to the Reds program, along with being connected and invested to the wider Qld rugby community.

Yep I do .
I know of one young fella who was approached from an agent based in South Africa looking to place troops in Europe (2nd tier). The agent made contact through social media after getting the name from Stan televised game.

So I am sure that all the different media that is used can lead to opening doors. Just would like it to have less weight in Qld given we have a great nursery and development vehicle in the schools and QPR.

Yeah, happy he was signed but I'm keen to see Heenan perform outside of the UQ environment, it's one of the, if not the best resourced QPR club with the cream of the crop in colts supported through scholarship schemes. His NRC coaching tenure wasn't a massive success so I'm not buying into this HC in waiting claim just yet

Lets hope so, I know bugger all about the club rugby scene or recruiting from schools.

I hope with his experience we start recruiting men from club rugby who have proven themselves to have a rugby brain, adult muscles and a skill set that is more about their play as opposed to being physically bigger than other school kids.

Sure Jimmy lets ignore the 35 finals appearances UQ made before Mick Heenan took over, or the UQ sporting scholarships that have been offered to talented young rugby players & athletes for at least the past 20 years.

GPS didn't feature in the finals during his coaching tenure there, nor did Brisbane City in the NRC. He is clearly a talented coach, but to claim he is the heir to the Reds HC role based on his UQ success is taking a narrow view to the issue.

Also, no need for name calling.
