Reds 2023

i think a bigger pressing issue in terms of firing is not Brad but Sam.

Cordingly time is done at the reds without the results to warrant him staying… we all know the ugly contract issues between the reds and the premiere Australian player agent.

Sam needs a nu start (pun intended)
Cordingly has been the biggest joke since his Rebels days I seriously can't understand how he gets gigs his track record of recruitment and retention is a mess.

By all means rip in, but is that accurate?

The Reds’ last 5yrs have seen the development of young recruits into Wallabies, with most core members of the squad having been around the Reds’ setup for a number years now.

In that time you've lost most of your Wallaby contenders, or they've fallen out of form.

Of the team that started on the weekend it's only Petaia and McDermott that make a 23. And on Saturday's evidence McDermott may lose that spot.

'^^^ probably what that person just said.

Reds' rugby program has not been producing for the wallabies in a very long time.

Probably pointless on speculating on a Wallabies 23, but capped Wallabies developed by the Reds, in the current squad are
-Tupou
-Wilson
-McDermott
-Petaia
-Campbell
-Daugunu
-Vunivalu (developed might be a stretch)
-Wright
-McReight
-Paisami

Granted, many are fringe players who may or may not get another chance, but at some point they were considered good enough. Add Aus A caps in there and it’s a pretty bloody healthy selection imo

Where do they all go? Why cant we keep them?

Uni, work, beers, girlfriends/boyfriends, tv, Gym, life and travel. Countless reasons on what people are doing.

Getting to training every Tuesday + Thursday at 6pm is a lot more difficult than walking down to the oval after school. Hell, I can attest that, as a young bloke, you get thrown all the shit jobs at 4:59pm, meaning getting to training just isn't going to happen if I wanted to keep my job.

The bigger question I have is why do we seem to lose so many between 17/18 and 22/23 years of age?

Each year Brisbane schools turn out about 80 front rowers (props) from 1st XV programs (GPS and AIC).
Plus the others from 3rds, 4ths 5ths etc and other school programs I reckon there could be potentially 150 young blokes who have all passed the front row specific training set up by the ARU after Conor Tweedy and spate of neck issues a few years ago.

Where do they all go? Why cant we keep them?

I think you overestimate two things
1) How many competitive scrums there are in lower teams, and thus how many actually undergo front row passport assessment. Typically most schools only focus on those likely to play 1st XV
2) How many of these boys are actually aspirational to play front row vs how many in school are converted backrowers targeting a 1st XV spot but then revert back having left school.

Seru Uru too.

Think he was playing club rugby previously down in Melbourne before he moved North & got developed in queenslands development pathways QPR/NRC

Yeh, show me a business who's KPI's include spend less money but in turn perform poorly = big bonus and sign me up please.

The Reds have not preformed poorly....yet, but he has spent less and had good results in AU so far - this could be the undoing, losing Lukahn, Stuart, Tupou, ASY (Angus Scott-Young), Kerevi, Hocking, Mafi it all came down to $$$ sometimes people forget its a business at the end of the day.

True probably not as bad as I made out there, but I have no time for Cordingly, granted I haven't followed recently but I've ripped him in the past for his work at the Rebels and Reds... Although in old age I can't remember exactly instances of why I think his crap... I would have had the pitch forks out if he ever got close to the Brumbies.

Would have been nice to keep these young front rowers in QLD to name a few:

Rhys Van Nek (23yrs) Brumbies - LH, Hooker, TH (Brisbane Boys College)
Harry Vella (21yrs) Brumbies - LH, TH (Nudgee) Reds U18
Jaiden Christian (21yrs) Rebels - LH, TH (State High) Reds U18
Andrew Romano (21yrs) Force - LH (Brisbane Boys College) Reds U18
Brad Kuhn (21yrs) Suntory - LH, TH (St Pats) Reds U18

The internet to a T.

Mad just for the sake of being mad. Incredible.
I haven't looked at Cordingly lately but I had issues with his past performance between the Rebels and Reds.. Just because I can't be fucked to go back through what it was doesn't mean it's not true.

and I'm not mad, I couldn't care less its a Red's problem....

Glad you're around though Reg can always count on you!!! adding absolutely no value to the conversation

that shows a one track mentality though.

He has stuck with a core group and failed to develop the wider group. The bloke to model on is Wayne Bennett he always has a bunch of "new" up and comers in the wings.

not oy money -- my mail is there is some "personality" issues that also helped some of those players make their decisions.

The number of debuts and solid early-career performances over last couple of seasons (and so far this season) makes it hard to argue Thorn hasn't developed the wider group and continued to bring talent in.

We've seen guys like Henry, Creighton, Faessler, Flook, Grealy, Nonggorr, etc. all come through and stake their claim with decent performances; then there's the next generation waiting in the wings, like Aubrey, Wilson Blyth, and Lynagh.
