Interesting Mafi featured so highly when he effectively got benched for half the season.

IMO he has the makings of a really good player. Quite different to BPA, but good all the same. Does need to make sure he consistently nails his throwing though.

Yep was going to say the same thing - Mafi nearly cracks the top 5 and BPA not even on the list. A good sign considering he’s going to be the clear top choice for the team in 2022 and beyond.

Surprised Vunivalu rated so high with only a handful of games, ahead of guys like McReight/Petaia/Campbell/Stewart/BPA

ASY (Angus Scott-Young) named best defensive player

only one year contracts. I guess if they aren't part of the wallabies squad by the end of 2022 (with RWC in 2023) they might be thinking about cashing in overseas. you'd hope that's not the case but its becoming such a well worn career path for Aussie players.

I think there is so much in flux with competition structure and the resulting salary caps and squad limits that teams and players are both leaning towards short term deals right now.

Actually, no RA announcement of these signings so neither have received a RA top up. Perhaps its as simple as them backing themselves to make their case to RA about a top up for 2023 and beyond.

You would think ASY (Angus Scott-Young) would kick on with Medicine if the Wallabies aren't interested by the end of 2022.

Both he a Wright are very clever boys and have bright futures outside of rugby.

Great to see them sticking around - looking from the outside in, regardless of their form, it really seems like these two are part of the 'soul' of the team, ooze Queensland, and embody everything Thorn has been building.

Guys just outside the squad. The sort of talent we usually lose.

Would be interesting to see if ASY (Angus Scott-Young) continues playing in say Japan/Europe if he doesn't get picked by the Wallabies. I reckon he'll want to keep playing until the body gives out.

From what I've been told, poor Johnny Roe can't swing the hammer above his head when he's knocking your new knees in. So I'm sure Angus might want to stay clear of that!

or perhaps he loves playing rugby for a couple 100 K a year and doesn't need the wallabies to stick round.. life as a pro footy player would be pretty sweet even just at super level.. Medicine can wait.

I think ASY (Angus Scott-Young) will stay in Brisbane if the Reds don't want him. Start his Medical degree and play for UQ, maybe thats just wishful thinking.

Yeah, I guess Wright didn't say he was going elsewhere.

Anyway, Reds squad looking very stable. Hegarty, BPA and MoSo the only departures. I do kind of get the feeling they need to freshen things up a bit otherwise you run the risk of getting stuck in a rut and doing the same thing again and again. Need a re-fresh every year.

Jordy Petaia playing fullback may definitely add this. A full season (hopefully) of Vunivalu may help as well, but it would be nice to get some fresh blood somewhere in the starting team just to provide a point of differnce.
