Reds 2020

If only he started his career with that attitude, what could have been?

All that ability , but unfortunately we had "Brand" O'Connor when he younger.

He is still pretty young. Could easily play the next World Cup after this one as well.

Plenty of time for James to create his Reds identity.

Yup - When Beiber called Phil Waugh a 'slow old dog' at Wallabies training Deans should have let The Orc beat him into a bloody smear on Coogee oval, then dropped him for the rest of that year.

A lot of rugby personalities and posters on here surprised that Thorn is letting JOC (James O'Connor) back into the fold after his previous hard stance on players with indiscretions, but really he isn't giving JOC (James O'Connor) a 'second chance', as far as we're aware they've never been associated in a professional manner.

JOC (James O'Connor) last played for the Reds back in 2015, Thorn never really got involved with the QRU in any capacity until the end of 2016 and not in a coaching a proper role (NRC) until 2017. I think that puts JOC (James O'Connor) into a very different basket than the other blokes who were actually contracted to the Reds when Thorn began his association with the QRU. In terms of getting a guy like JOC (James O'Connor) over the line, even if Thorn has reservations, it would be a lot easier for his supporters within the QRU due to those circumstances.

So Thorn should just ignore what went on before, ignoring his (apparent) principles? He has learnt the Wayne Bennett lessons well (as long as a player can deliver on the field you can cope with their off field bahaviour).

have nothing against JOC (James O'Connor), and noted that a couple of years ago when he was here with Toulon for the Brisbane 10's that he was very giving of his time with the public, even after his teammates had departed, but if you are going to hold yourself out there as being strong on principles then you can't suddenly overlook past behaviours. The Toulon cocaine indicent was onlly a couple of years ago. If most people were faced with a job offer that they wanted then they would claim to meet all the personal responsibility criteria too. Doesn't mean that it is true. Is he willing to abide by the Thorn hairstyle rules that Tate had to meet?

Depending on the stories you skim through and reading between the lines, Bennett's holy than thou of the field persona hasn't really lived up to his 'reputation' in the last several years.

Always has been the way

The general rule is be good enough and winning - you can get a away with anything in most endeavours

Andrew Johns was known to skip training if the surf was running, still played and got man of the match on the weekend

Same deal with Gary Ablett Snr down at Geelong. He'd turn up to training, jog a lap and hit the showers.

Well it seems good sense prevailing and the QRU have put in additional protections for JOC (James O'Connor) contract.

Let's hope it is also performance driven as well. I can certainly see a scenario that he doesn't play a minute for Australia this year and gets the sulks & that that attitude into next season. That would not sit well within the QLD camp.

I hope I'm wrong.

Tate and JOC (James O'Connor) will be approached by the 7s squad I reckon, to help them qualify for the Olympics.
