Yep different players but you can see what kind of player To'omua is, he is a ball player so I wouldn’t expect his running stats to be as good.. but JOC (James O'Connor) isn’t playing as a ball player, and his ball running stats are underwhelming.

I’m just not sure what he has become if he has lost his best attributes(speed, agility and acceleration), and isn’t playing to his secondary attributes(ball playing).

Isn't it kind of saying that JOC (James O'Connor)'s ball playing has been similarly good (or average) as To'omua's? It would seem that JOC (James O'Connor) is far less of an elusive ball runner compared to when he was young but is a better ball player and facilitator.

The issue you might take is that To'omua has been fairly underwhelming in his couple of games back for the Rebels.

That's how I read it - he seems to be playing a different style of game, or at least transitioning to that.

Well if he ran 106 times for a heap of meters the stats maybe good, how is a state on how many times a player run any good.

I don’t really want to turn this into a To'omua vs JOC (James O'Connor) debate, I’m just pointing out you can see what style To'omua plays.
I don’t see how you’ve come to the conclusion JOCs ball playing has been similarly good to Toomuas based off those stats.

What my question is, what kind of player is JOC (James O'Connor) now, because he is running more then he is passing, he isn’t kicking and his ball running stats are pretty dismal and stets are down on last years.

I posted a link there you can follow for these kinds of questions, I didn’t post everything.

Break it down as you please

He would be very good for qld in replacing SK. Not sure what Thorn will make of him.
He could easily play 10,12 and 15 in Super rugby.

Sorry didn't look at the link, I just found amount of runs a weird state when not combined with run meters. He's stats dont scream out as being a dominate player we all probably expected him to be in his younger days. But depending on his cost he might be worth a shot if a team doesn't have an IC, e.g. Tah's / Qld. Who else would you be looking at 12..

Ok so it would seem it is pretty much a done deal.

Scott Johnson very much leading the charge.

Apparently there has been a significant ("unheard of previously") level of due diligence on him and his coach Steve Diamond has strongly recommended him (provided RA all his stats this year etc). JOC (James O'Connor) is just very keen to give his all for Australian Rugby again, which is why Sale will let him go.

They've been using him as a distributor to get the ball in the hands of Marlon Yarde and Denny Solomona more. The Reds are going to have to come up with a new game plan because "give it to Kerevi" doesn't work when Kerevi isn't there. So thats a good sign as we have the likes of Petaia, Daugunu and Speight out wide. Definitely fits better with the Jim McKay approach. Plus Lucas is seemingly the favoured 10 option.

Anyway, I think we are going to have to get used to it. Both from a Wallaby perspective and Reds perspective.

Interesting about Johnson's involvement.
I'm more happy about it with your background info there.

interesting. I always thought his best qualities were his speed and footwork and your suggesting these aren't as prominent now? So what are we buying?
He’s still quick but has lost a step on what we would remember him (he’s not chasing down a winger in a World Cup group game). He is however more likely to ride a tackle in the collision better than the past.

Who will we let go?

At a guess; Korch, McGahan, Tela.

Players from the U20s who will be close to the top squad next year; Wood, Van Nek, Kye Oates, Nasser, Isaac Henry.

Is Jeral Skelton still playing 7s? Will Liam McNamara get a look in?

Is Hunter Paisami from Wests up to it? He was ex-Rebels.

So if JOC (James O'Connor) is signing with the Reds after their season is over does that enable him to go to the RWC? If Johnson has been pushing the signing it must be that they want him for RWC, whether that works out well for Qld in the long run might be different.

zero chance he goes to the world up. Much higher chance he playes tests next year after the exodus, which is probably what Johnson is worried about
