Liam Gill has left Lyon and returning home. What’s the chances of returning to the Reds? That would be fucking ideal. Liam and Liam has a nice tone to it.

I also don't know about the financial feasibility of it. From what I'm hearing, there are enough pay issues at the Reds at the moment anyway

Of course we need him, don’t be fucking stupid. Liam would be a valuable asset. Let MeReight and Wilson deserve their stripes. You always play your best team on the field and IMO Gill is leaps and bounds in front of both the rookies. Both McReight and Wilson could learn how to be at an International standard by having Gill around. The only question is, out of the Liam’s, who moves to 6.
Bringing JOC (James O'Connor) back has proven exactly this for our young guys learning their trade.
If Gill is looking at returning to Super Rugby, then he knows that all Aus teams don’t have the dollars on offer.

If force enter domestic rugby competition - players like Gill would be logical signing to boost squad to super rugby standard
Seriously, we don’t want the Force back in. The Wallabies were the most successful with 3 Aus teams. That’s why I’m not too concerned with the possibility of the Rebels not in the comp. AU only needs to support and distribute the pool of money across the Reds, Tahs and Brumbies. This is the best solution for the quality in the Wallabies in the next few years. Look at the history before you come back with stupid comments.

Reds have Wright & Mcreight
Tahs have Hoops & Tizzano

Rebels are an option with the very average Hardwick & Wilkins very easily being on a chopping block
Brumbies are an option with only Miller supported by kiwi Brown.

If Twiggy was serious when saying he wanted top 50 players playing for his team then yes, Gill would be a walk on to replace Chris Alcock (31).

Rebels are probably the most real Aussie option and would benefit the most, with the very average Hardwick & Wilkins very easily being on a chopping block. With the departure of Phillips and Jones, also bereft of leadership. Though perhaps REALLY need to focus (in conjunction with RA potentially) getting at least 1 top level lock back. I could also see a shuffle at the Reds where I think it will be deemed that it's silly that Rodda, LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto), Hockings and Blyth, all now of national importance, all at the Reds. I can see Blyth getting a release and going to the Rebels.

Most likely? Gill will keep living the good life, sharing his time between a decent pay check in Japan and the considerable spare time here with family.

If you are in the camp of shrink your way to greatness with current super rugby 4 country team competition then your view is valid. I am in the camp that would rather find another strategy if commercially viable. But that is for other threads. And by the way world moved on since super 10 and super 12 so what might have worked 10-15 years ago won’t necessarily work now. So suggest you so think a little more on what is current successful rugby models in the world to consider as well rather then just models played out decades ago before you come back with comments saying what worked 15 years ago is only model that will work now any other comments are stupid. In case you have not noticed the sporting landscape (a-league, afl and nrl) is also very different to what it was decades ago when super 10 and super 12 was played.

Oh if it was all that simple...

it's not about shrinking to greatness.

It's not really about the success of the Wallabies.

It's about shrinking to survival. Rugby in Australia can not afford 4 pro teams. They'll struggle with three.

Unless there is a staggering change in the approach the sport us run in this country, it just won't happen.

Mate if you are talking current super rugby model without any catalysts for investment in alternative competitions / models I would agree. Ie less teams in view of where at for survival but that is also based on status quo and alternatives could look at. I don’t buy into rapid rugby as viable separate commercial model as well as model of trans Tasman comp without open borders. My point is lot of variables in the mix - let’s stop here as this is for another thread.

But per your last sentence we actually are aligned with our views it seems on your last point.

Businesses survive on economies of scale. Build the worth and the investors will follow. The only way forward at this point is to build a product that is successful for players and the fans. Rugby needs to build the player’s monetary value so that rugby is preferred over league and to keep the tier one players in Australia.

Nah we don't. Wright has made the 7 his position, if we went for Gill, he wouldn't add that much to the backrow. Wilson has a better running and tackle busting aspect and Gill is too short to play 6.

Rather than spend money on another flanker, any money the QRU has, should be ensuring we can pay the contractors working at the organisation, like Peter Ryan.

A think your second paragraph is the key.

As impressed as I am with Wright & McReight I personally feel Gill remains a better player. However we have already invested heavily in our backrow and have some good guys there who have bought into to program. I’d certainly love to see Peter Ryan retained if its at all possible.

No.

It’s absolutely shrinking pro rugby. RA cant afford 4 franchises UNDER THE CURRENT OFFERING. And I agree, struggle with 3.

But we have opportunity if we choose to chase it.

As a New South Welshman who values the success of the Wallabies more highly than the Reds, I’d rather not see Gill back in QLD creating a log jam at 7 that makes it harder for McReight and Wright to get game time to keep developing.

Yes, in the best interest of Wallabies I would agree. But as a QLDer I want to win. McReight and Wilson are the Reds future. Gill would also be a great mentor to make them even better.
