That is one of the worst takes I’ve seen in this place. What makes you say he has no basic respect for his fellow players? What a shit thing to say.

It was a harsh thing to say but I think within the context of what has happened, there is some merit. If the player he tackled had ended up like Alex McKinnon or worse, you'd be up in arms for a life ban I'm sure.

With so much education these days around tackling technique and the dangers it presents, it makes these types of situations much less accidental in my opinion.

Clearly Daugunu needs to avoid repeating this. This is the classic tip tackle where the tackled player has passed the ball so they are no longer fighting in the tackle so the actions of the tackler are magnified. Daugunu is attempting to lift the player off his feet to drive him back and make a dominant tackle but due to the tackled player effectively being passive in the tackle it goes wrong very quickly.

This used to happen pretty frequently but has definitely diminished due to World Rugby's focus on reducing tip tackles a few years ago.

The lesson to be learned is certainly about avoiding lifting the ball carrier off their feet because as soon as that happens there is a far greater risk of the tackle going wrong.

Come on mate, that's definitely not implied by my post, at all.

I made a reference to McKinnon as a nearly worst case scenario of what the outcome can be with these sort of tackles and that since what happened to him, there has been so much more widespread education and rules around improvement of tackling technique that now when similar events occur, there would definitely be an element that the tackler knows they are doing something reckless towards their fellow player.

I can't find the discussion we were having about the change in S&C, but I stand corrected. Brynley has moved from the Reds to be the Head of Performance at Netball Qld. During the Reds warm up shown on IG, I thought I saw Marshy. So the boys should still be in good hands!

It is on page 96 of the thread I don't beat Reg to scoops too often (never until now, actually) so will make the most of this one. I said Firebirds and not Netball Qld so apologise for that mistake.
But it's very good having Marsh back. He is a quality S&C trainer.

normally id say its not good to have a turnover in personnel at this time of the season especially in roles like that, but Marsh and Brynley are one the same, both have worked together extensively with Brynley working as Marsh's understudy back in the day, so should have similar concepts and methods around the S&C space.

His lucky he only got 5 weeks, but with the Red's talent on the wings he might be riding the pine for a while.

Maybe if it was a high tackle due to back technique in the vein of Quade. But it wasn't. Tip tackles require quite a bit of intention and follow through. Pretty dumb really.

Idk about Ma'afu. Really hasn't played much proper rugby in reality. Played some Qld u20's and Aus u20's but has played only around 10 QPR games and didn't tear it up like some of the other squad members. Not denying he could be good, but definitely not Super Rugby ready IMO.
