Reds 2019

If things were as toxic as some have reported on this forum, sought after assistant coaches wouldn't re-sign this early for a post world cup year. Acknowledging it is not official yet, but if accomplished adults sign on its a good sign the direction of the reds is positive

JM might be pushing for his old job. Remember there will be no mid season tests so a coach could effectively be with a team the entire super season before moving on.

I think its good. Apart from Rebels game. The team is competing where it should especially c.f. the other Aussie teams. Not exceeding expectations but he has a lot less Wobs at his disposal than the other 3.

Any thoughts on why that situation exists?

2 players forced his hand.
The rest are young and aren't wallabies???
No prime wallabies have left. All the incumbents are just at other teams and REds don't have the money (and maybe they feel the need to poach). It's not Thorns fault that Pocock, Hooper, Sio, Foley, Folau, TK etc have never played for the reds...

With Quade, Hunt & Slipper payments going off the books, DP departing then Kerevi going, SURELY they could afford bring in a couple of people a bit further up the food chain to solidify the 10/12 window. Revisit the Mikeymike Harris.

you're not on your own but I think a few people remember Harris a little more favorably than he probably deserves? A lovely fellow and a great goal kicker with decent skills. His experience would be handy I guess but don't know if he brings much more.

Agreed but we need to look at improving the backline and he has family connections to QLD. Who else is there out in the market? JOC (James O'Connor), Mogg and Tomane (all QLD connections)? Any decent leaguies?

EDIT: I forgot Morahan

Tasi and Robbie Coleman are playing for Gordon this weekend?

I expected Tazer Adams to get some time with the Rebels last year but didn't. Maybe we pick him up?

I'm sure there are enough blokes in 1st grade and coming through the development channels. No need to start looking elsewhere or paying $ for old journeymen.

The Reds are a franchise who are meant to operate as a professional business that operates in the sport of Rugby. They should recruit the best possible talent regardless of background with the sole purpose of winning rugby games.

The Queensland Rugby Union should be concerned about where it's players come from and keeping locals in the game.

^ I guess the thought is that you don't have to pay as much to get someone who would prefer to live in Brisbane versus someone who is only moving there because it's the biggest or best offer available.

There are plenty of young kids giving it a good crack but they need a few blokes to help carry them for the next couple of years.

The "Reds" are still actually QLD. They hand out rep caps, they represent the state union i.e. the QRU

Maybe need to stop preordaining schoolboy stars and put the emphasis back on club rugby. It’s part of the problem with the professional era, limited number of contracts available, as opposed to picking the bloke who is performing best in clubland ( read good old days ) .

Yeah the conveyor belt has slowed a little, it'll come good again.
genuine question. QC (Quade Cooper) was playing Reds straight after school. Barnes went from the Broncos to pro rugby. Elton Flatley was straight after school. Even Michael Lynagh was straight after school.

I'm going to go with Shane Drahm

Am I missing anyone?

Any chance of Sam Greene wanting to come back?

Not that he is a proven performer at all, but I always thought he showed a lot of potential.

Of course potential wins SFA, but if Hegarty keeps going the way he is then I’d be happy if they signed a back up for depth rather than a front liner.
