in the infamous "Brad Thorn to coach for 10 years" article Jeff Miller suggested they would approach RA about accessing contracted coaches (like the Force had last year with Joe Barakat and someone else I can't remember. I wonder if that's the plan? Not sure who that means may be available.

I have always wondered what all these assistants do for the 6 months they aren't coaching, how much video can they watch? Same with the S15 assistants. Get them coaching and learning through coaching ie doing it

Super Pre season training starts in October / November. Season finishes in July (early July usually .....) it’s not a lot of down time particularly with nrc on.
The Super Rugby teams generally train through the NRC as well don't they?
I'm sure the Waratahs were last year.

Reg, I’ll take your word for it as I haven’t watched a lot of Souths since QC (Quade Cooper) returned from injury.
I would think otherwise though, about the period before his injury. Not only was Quade playing with relish, he showed great leadership, almost refused to score if he could get someone else over the line. Obviously more going on with the team than Quade, but the whole team played with Joi d’ vie. Prop flick passing to hooker, second rowers Linking the backs, chose kicks with joy, not just from Quade.
No fear of failure, joyful rugby with Quade in the thick of it.
God we could use some of that at the Reds.

So would I, particularly with Phil Blake's name mentioned in the Australian as a potential defence/skills coach. However I'm pretty sure Phil was approached to be assistant last year, and with his position as director of rugby(?) at Grammar, and his kids studying there too, he's keen to keep the stable job for the next few years.

Pleased to see his name mentioned wherever it may emanate from - you may recall P Blake achieved significant improvements under Deans in the Wallaby defence record when he moved there from, IIRC, the Force in around c. 2010. (I'm assuming you do mean Phil Blake, and not Mooney.....)
As others have said, Thorn urgently needs ACs with serious experience in equivalent or higher specialist AC roles coupled with demonstrable track records of achievement in the doing.
I said from the word go that Carozza was a serious mistake by the QRU - especially in the abject recklessness of blending him with a rookie HC - and sadly so it proved in almost every imaginable sense.

Problem may be for the QRU that the currently accessible stock of 'our good mates and loyal QLD rugby men' is running very low as most have been tried now and have proved - as was predicted - abysmal failures principally as objectively and carefully assessed competence for the role in question was not the most important selection criterion.

There was not many options for AC for Brad Thorn considering how late in the year (October 2017) he was hired.
Japan/Europe competitions were in full swing and then the Super Rugby season was less then 3 months away. Slim Pickings mate.
