Reds 2019

Really? I mean, I think that Rodda, LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto), Blyth + Hockings are an exciting quartet, but I wouldn't pick them over Eztebeth/Whitelock/Retallick/Ryan/Itoje.

For the 'small' improvement one of those guys would make over the current Reds locks would not be a wise return for how much you would need to spend.

Still confused at why us recruiting in the one bloody area we don't need to recruit is being debated. Let the Tahs or Brumbies spend the cash to bring Will back if he wants to play for Australia.

I think Sorovi is out of the 23 because they want to see what they have in Scott Maloua.

Not that Scott is in line for significant super rugby game time. McDermott job to lose and McDermott almost gaurenteed playing 65-70 minutes a week.

Sorovi is on the books for 2020 but there’s gonna have to be a decision made on a 3rd halfback. Tuttle injury is a concern. Perhaps they want to see how Scott handles himself in super rugby because the reds are not confident on Tuttle coming back 100 percent after back to back Achilles injuries.

I thought it was reported Sorovi was injured. Did he play club on the weekend just gone?

They want to give Sorovi match fitness, can’t get that playing 10min off the bench. If this game were onFriday night and he could backup club rugby the next day he would have been in the 23

Liam Dillon is a nice talent.

But Sorovi got a double in the last game he played for the bulldogs.

I don’t know if I agree with you saying his being showed up. Gotta make time for both players!

Tries don't necessarily mean Sorovi is stronger.

I agree, time should be made for both, but in terms of what was said about match fitness, Liam will be the starting 9 and play for the majority of the game unless the reds have dictated how long they want Sorovi to play.

I can see why people are disgruntled, but personally I feel positive about the teams future.

Am I 100 % confident things will come good next year - not at all. Would I like to be winning more games now - absolutely.

But I do believe there have been positive changes to the team performance since last year.

We are 2nd last and playing in front of crowds of under 10,000 since we pretty much jettisoned whatever star power was left in the sqaud last year.

So not sure there are too many others in town loving where his approach and decision making has led to.

What are you suggesting was done differently?

Other than holding onto Quade, Slipper & Hunt?

We now have money to sign players for next season as evidenced by Henry Speight.

I have no idea why people are still bashing Thorn. I absolutely love what is happening here.

Keep in mind our best player, and I am not mincing words here, was missing all season.

I have not seen a back prospect in Australia like Jordy in recent memory.

Samu is the best player in the Reds. In Australia we have a real tendency to put a lot of weight on players who are injured, or playing elsewhere, who have showed promise. Until Jordy has an entire season performing at Super level I'm not going to put his name up in lights. My hope is that he comes out next year and proves you correct.

There is a lot to like about how the Reds have played this season. Yes results aren't there but now, at least, I am enjoying the games. Like everyone else i get frustrated but lack of finish and stupid penalties. There is a sence of improvement and building a team. It might take a few years and I am happy to see what happens. Thorn has put a bit of pride back into palying for the REDS and has shown that a player needs to earn the right to wear the Reds colours again. For that alone he has done a good job. Can he improve - for sure, can our recruitement be better, Of course but we have had to start at a very low base and I think the first steps the Reds have taken are positive.

Complaining and calling for changes to a second-year coach is not being part of the answer it's being part of the problem. It puts us on the same merry-go-round we've been on since they sack Connelly. In that time the dart board that been the qld coaching recruitment policy has hit the bullseye once.
It leads to the kind of results and the budget deficits we're seeing at the Reds regularly.
Eventually, you have to pick and stick and the time to bitch and moan is not through a coaching teams first season.

There's been a lot of good things QRU and the coaching team have done this year, something I wish they had done back in Link's time. The foundations laid this year definitely seem to bode well for the coming years.

However, there are some issues I do have with how Thorn/the Management team handled this year. The lack of recruiting an inside back was glaringly obvious. They put all hopes into Petatia being fit all year round and had egg on their face early in the season. Being such a young player, the risk of him being injured was a high one and something I felt they should have managed better. The issue was also compounded by having another injury plagued player to cover in CFS.

Overall, the Reds should be on the up from here. A lot of fans still have wounds/are unhappy with the stewardship of the club in the recent years. That's going to take time for the QRU to fix.

.

What? Do you have a scientific paper that proves younger players are more likely to get injured?

Not saying your wrong... just I’m amazed coaches would consider that younger players need their minutes managed due to injury risk.

I had actually thought this was the case though. Aren't developing bodies more prone to injury?

Injury risk is pretty constant from the late teens to the late 20s, but after that it skyrockets. However, injury severity is much higher between 17 and 23, and more likely to criple potential or end a career.
