Reds 2019

Regarding Sean McMahon: two of his best friends are Quade Cooper and Nick Frisby. Frisby was a groomsman at his wedding. I don't think he's going to the Reds.

Watched Brad Thorn interviewed by Marto at Nudgee Terrace lunch. Was really interesting. Brad is clearly a tough guy still and forwards focused coach, if reds get a good new backs coach will be interesting next year. One big question I have though is would Brad swap to coach league at the Broncos? He did it as a player and Brisbane is clearly home.

I wonder if there’s a bit of the To'omua factor to it? Maybe one of the 2 local netball teams can make a play for his wife.

Reg, it has been reported that Elyse will be based in Sydney at least for the next two years after they return. If Izzy moves to Brisbane and his wife to Auckland, that might be closer to the To'omua factor as most recently reported.

Some time the teams don't need to make a play, they will come to them.

I wonder what James Slippers inclusion in the Wallaby trial match side means for his future at the Reds?
I hope it's a good sign!

Every now and then, while immersed in sticky gloom, something good happens (last one was Hunt getting club game time). Go Slipper! Great news.

Also probably says something about Hunt that is less exciting, but my "probably go to the game" just flicked over to see you all on the hill. :)

I would imagine that crossing-codes to head coach would be even harder than playing!

I just finished watching James Slipper's presser about returning to rugby. He seems very enthusiastic to return but most importantly he says he feels happier than he has in ages.

James has been one of my favourite players for the past decade for his off field behaviour and manner as much as his on field.
I remember when he got his 50th Wallaby cap at the young prop age of 25, I naively thought with his form he could go on to be the most capped Wallaby ever.

Anyway, I've got a lot of time and forgiveness for him and very happy to see the guy on the right path (hopefully).

Unfortunately when he was ask what his future looked like at the Reds all he could say is it was unclear. Come on Queensland Reds! This guy has eleven years service with your organisation. Step up!

Unfortunately I have little faith in the Reds to look after their players or reward them for loyal service. At this stage I would be delighted to see him turn out for another Australian team, keep contributing to Aus Rugby and most importantly be in a good headspace.

But at the moment I'm resigned to seeing him go join the foreign legions with all my other discarded favourite reds, LFG and Horwill.

Banished Queensland Reds trio Quade Cooper, James Slipper and Karmichael Hunt will be placed in rugby's shop window after being named to play in the National Rugby Championship (NRC) starting next month.

The trio will be among a host of current and fringe Wallabies in the two Brisbane NRC outfits with Brandon Paenga-Amosa, Lukhan Tui and Adam Korczyk in coach Mick Heenan's City Squad.Taniela Tupou, Izack Rodda and Caleb Timu will all return to Country after using it as a platform for Wallabies selection.
Reds leader and Wallabies centre Samu Kerevi could also make his return from a ruptured bicep for City as he pushes for a Wallabies return.

The eight-club NRC will run from September 1 to October 27.

I'm pretty sure he is the same as Cooper on the fact he won't leave Queensland.

Which takes us back to this:

On the matter of Cooper's and Hunt's non-selection for the Reds, one would hope the ARU/RA have learnt a lesson here and construct future Wallaby top-ups so's they can determine a player receiving said top-up to play where directed. In the cases of these two the Brumbies and/or Rebels could've done with their services this year, and next.

If players in line to receive W top-ups don't want to risk playing where told to go, don't take 'em. One would, of course, hope these harsh decisions would be extremely rare.

No. This is incredibly naive.
RUPA would never allow it, and I doubt players would sign a contract that says “nah we get to chose where you play so bugger your mortgage, your family and your kids; you’re all moving to Sydney or you don’t get paid”
It’s not how the world works. You sign a contract to guarantee your employment and livelihood.

This is all the Reds fault. The brumbies offer was contingent on the QRU paying some of his wage; on principle they said no. Shows the state of the current administration

I would hope that any professional organisation would be constantly reviewing their contracts forms and conditions looking to improve things as you go forward. Getting paid top not play is crazy. The Quade thing is self inflicted but Hunt is a different thing.

On one, not so much the other.

If the report of QC (Quade Cooper) undermining the previous coaces at the Reds is correct, would you really think any other Super Rugby franchise would be interested, once they knew of this?
