It’s going to get worst for the Reds this off-season. A number of players have had enough and are moving on at the seasons end, almost up to 12 players including a young wallaby back that will link up with the Broncos

Duncan Paiaaua is extremely overrated.

Can young Wallaby back be anyone else except CFS or Kerevi? Surely it wouldn't be Kerevi. He is off contract at the end of this season but would certainly be a massive recruitment priority for RA.

Edit: didn't think of Paia'aua as he isn't a capped Wallaby although played a BaaBaas game.

It's actually worse if you do quick "points conceded/games played" calc. On track to be the first Reds team to leak over 500pts in a season.

Newstead has a 9.8% beer on tap now. I think I'll be picking that instead of the "Ballymore" before I head into the stadium tonight.

I've always checked the point differential and note that the Rebels are -1 now under Wessels, last year, under McGahan's coaching (I'm not even going to quip and say brilliance - you know I don't mean that) our point differential was, from memory -321. Reds currently -147 under, you guessed, McGahan. Good luck to you all, but I don't think you will top our record from last year.

Indeed lou75.

The QRU's incompetence, insularity ('he's a good QLD rugby man') and poor strategic judgement in recruiting this man as, of all things, 'defence AC and senior mentor to Thorn' was breathtaking - even I was shocked at this new level of stupidity and recklessness.

I said it (not as excuse) re Slipper - what is often underestimated is the stress-inducing and morale-destroying impact upon players of the disastrously low coaching competence of Reds' HCs and the so derived year-on-year demoralising level of winning maybe just 25 % of the time and equally displaying regular lapses into truly humiliating losses with shocking defensive stats and so on.

After years of this, it takes its toll no matter the pay grade. The negative consequences are building.

Sounds coming out of Reds HQ aren’t great.

Chairman and CEO cut/resign in quick succession. Replaced by a former CEO as Chairman and acting CEO it appears. And a private banker to boot. He’s looking a lot like a quasi-administrator in the insolvency sense. First admissions of financial strife and RA support.
Next comes sounds about not centralisation, not that that’s a bad thing he says, but alignment. RA weighing in on how it’s wages are being wasted and answers demanded. more RA support for Thorn.

Be careful Reds when they start asking to buy the Brand IP!

It makes you wonder just what state the financials are in.

Media pieces last night stating the QRU has just recently again had to very significantly increase its borrowing from sponsor Bank St George. Ballymore land and facilities I assume to be the bank's security.

(See https://www.couriermail.com.au/spor...l/news-story/afba9c9688e98e342b734dbd2b999796 )

Many rumours building that the club is experiencing major financial difficulties.

If so, wholly unsurprising. As a number of us here predicted from the outset in 2013 (well, actually, since the QRU picking Graham as HC in April 2012) the QRU has masterfully manufactured what is arguably the biggest self-inflicted wound in modern Australian rugby history.

RedsHappy. can they use Ballymore land as security? My understanding is that it was gifted by govt into a trust, and that it can only be used for Rugby purposes, otherwise it reverts back to govt ownership. not sure they have the authority to sell that land and as a result wouldnt be much as collateral for a laon... can anyone confirm?

sunnyboys - 'Land at independent valuation' is in the QRU's 2017 Annual Report (p 102) at an asset value of $12.7m. The Notes to that state this independent valuation took into a/c the 'restrictions placed upon the use of the Land by the State Govt.'

If that Land was severely constrained by the State its value (to the QRU as such) would have to be closer to zero. The QRU's board has to be comfortable that this deemed value could be realised if sold or this value should not be so used in the QRU's balance sheet.

[By the way, the net asset value of 'Buildings Stadium Infrastructure' (namely Ballymore stands, a few sheds and perhaps the HQ building) is in the 2017 books at a realisable value of $4.4m which IMO is highly optimistic given the poor and under-maintained state of the stands there.]

Not him. Perese.

If that is true - Perese to the Broncos ???!!! - it's fucking tragic. One of the best young talents both QLD and Aust rugby possesses today.

This bloke is not a big head, not a greedy guy. If he's moving it will be through great disillusion with the rugby environment he's in and not just to gain greater income or notoriety.

Say it isn't so for God's sake.

That'd be terrible news.

I was always under the impression the Broncos were hovering around Petaia or at least had attempted to win his signature.

Either way would be a terrible result

Souths have signed up Hunt to play for them for the rest of the season (won't be eligible for finals)

"He has been isolated for so long... that can only go on for so long, I suppose," Souths president Anthony Shepley told RUGBY.com.au.
"He was approached by Quade and to be honest if Quade wasn't at the club, he probably wouldn't be playing for us - he was the catalyst.
"It's about getting him back involved with rugby, getting him around the team and giving him some support."
"He was just grateful for the opportunity," Shepley said.
"He's been isolated for a long time and he was just happy to be back out there, I think."

Perese to League would be a huge loss for Australian Rugby. Heard him interviewed after the Reds vs Waratahs and though not having the eloquence of Adam Scott Young appeared very humble saying Maddocks deserved the Wallaby squad spot more than him. Fairly sure he also went straight to his club game after getting off the plane from Wellington earlier this year. Gee what a shame it would be to lose such a talent and hardworking guy

Don't think it will be Perese he's contracted until after the 2019 World Cup. Maybe it's Paia'aua

EDIT: Paia'aua is also contracted until after the 2019 World Cup

I’ve heard Perese to the Broncos from a couple of people but he is contracted until 2019 so who knows?
