Frisby will have to adjust to be successful in this halves combo. Way less kicking for starters, and serving the 10 more which he is not used to. There is a risk that they will not gel for awhile.

They played in the halves together in that 2013 Lions game didn't they? Which was, I reckon, the best the two of them played all season and was also probably the Reds' best performance of the year.

Yes. I'm not saying they won't gel, but there will certainly be an adjustment period. QC (Quade Cooper) will demand more: when he wants it, when he doesn't etc. and rightly so as he will be trying to pick apart the opposition and react fast to mismatches. He will demand good service.

Frisby dictates play at the moment, and is the dominant half for the Reds, sometimes flat out avoiding Jake. The box kicking and mindless turnover kicking will hopefully be a thing of the past. He will have to change to find the right balance as QC (Quade Cooper) is the playmaker.

I think Frisbey-Quade is a combination with potential all over it. I don't want Frisbey to stop the box, just understand its place. And I want him to dictate the when and how of feeding the pigs. He can do all this. Hope Hunt takes a roving role coming in as occassion second play maker ala Beale.

Plenty for Stiles to be working with.

I'd love to hear what the issue is with Hunt, injury-prognosis-absence expectation.

Box kicks seem to work okay for the Highlanders and the All Blacks.

It is not the type of kick that is the problem, it is the skill of the kicker.

Genia used the box kick a bit in 2011 from memory. Having both as kicking options makes the job easier for both of them.

Also what a lot of people forget is how much Quade kicks when he is apparently playing a running game. When he's playing well it's normally on the back of a great kicking game.

I've never seen Maranta play but the Reds seem to have enough outside backs so I'm not sure why they feel they need him. They have Hunt, CFS, Kuridrani, Laloifi (I assume) and Nabuli, and then guys like Banks and Perese who are surely better options than an NRL winger.

From what I can google, it seems Maranta went to Terrace so will at least know the basics of union but has no experience at senior level. Add to that the fact the Broncos let him go and the fact he might be an injury risk and it's hard to see why the Reds signed him.

Nabuli turned out to be pretty good value.

I reckon the history of Cross coders has generally been pretty good, especially if he/they aren't on big money. They bring instant gratification which is worth something at least.

Goromaru would be close to the worst ever signing (and I don't think it was his fault) closely followed by Hunt on value for money grounds

Ok so if Maranta gets the last outside back squad (urh) this is my top flight team for Reds

1. Slipper 2. Moore 3. Talakai
4. Simmons 5. Douglas
6. Tui 8. Houston 7. Smith
9. Frisby 10. Quade 12. DP 13. Kerevi
11. Sautia 15. Hunt 14. Nabuli

16. Read. 17. Faagase 18. Thor 19. Neville 20. Timu 21. Tuttle 22. Magnay 23. Maranta (or anyone one else)

I think that will be the selected team. I would have a few changes
1. Slipper 2. Ready 3. Thor
4. Simmons 5. Douglas
6. Tui 8. Houston 7. Smith
9. Frisby 10. Quade 12. DP 13. Kerevi
11. Magnay 15. Hunt 14. Nabuli

Still not convinced with Houston, maybe SMith at 8 and Gunn at 7? I wonder if Timu or the other Tui if he is able to stay will feature this season

I think you'll find the Maranta signing isn't much of a surprise to those inside the Reds and Bronco's organisations.

Not sure if there was anything said on the forums here last season but there were already rumours flying around that Maranta wanted to join the Reds back then.

  6. Tui
  7. Smith
  8. Houston
  9. Frisby
  10. Cooper
  11. Nabuli
  12. Paia'aua
  13. Kerevi
  14. Laolifi

That's my lineup as well, with the wing and reserve outside back positions up for grabs, I'm going to throw Perese in as a chance for starting wing or bench a few times in 2017.

You say don't pick Kerevi out of position and them you pick him at 12. He has always been a 13 until recently.

Harsh by Marto, but fair?

HERE
I haven't seen enough of Maranta to know if it is justified - but I think it is completely shit form by Martin. Sure, public scrutiny is part and parcel of being a pro athlete, but bagging him so savagely is uncalled for. I notice that social media has largely joined the sledge fest. It genuinely saddens me.

And yes, for the record, I also think the personal nature of some of the attacks which have been made in the past on Martin have been poor form.
