Really ?

Only 1 THP with no real backup.

Sef is a LHP Reg

While Sef is primarily a LHP, he also has a history of playing THP, during much of the 2014 NRC including the GF and he also earned his Super Rugby debut as a THP.

Talakai is a good scrummager and is a good replacement for Holmes, Reds still need to sign one more THP, or they may switch Paraka or Faagase, in either case Tupou will earn a few caps in 2017 and based off his Premier Grade form during 2015 his scrummaging ability is up to the task.

Scrub I heard the same thing that Holmes was willing to stay at the Reds on the same coin until retirement... But for some unknown reason got tapped. Makes my blood boil.

So Reds are losing a THP prop and they will need to pick one up. The decision is whether they back Talakai to regularly start with Tupou backing him up or do they go purchase a seasoned one? My preference would be option 1. They have to bring the lads through at some point.

Other interesting thing of the past week is that on Friday, when all of the corporate pre-test luncheons were happening it was notable that Stilesy did not attend the Reds one, choosing instead to buy a last minute seat to the UQ rugby one...I'm hearing from people close to it that he may not be around moving forward.

Also hearing that the are definitely more signings to come. Including one big like 'oooo wow'. Thats not including Cooper.

My theory that they will be targeting Cummins.

Also I think that unless we sign another good centre (atm we only have taefu, DP & Magnay with Kerevi), that they try and move hunt back to 12 and sign a full back with good positional play and rugby nous, to complement the ball running wingers. I'm thinking try to bring in Mogg as a steady, specialist 15. Nothing great but a steady hand, with a good understanding of 15 play and a bit boot.

I rate Mogg massively, I think he could be a Latham/Roff type player in the future.

Mate - it wasn't up to Holmes ! He WANTED to stay

For some inexcusable and stupid reason, the Reds didn't want him.

Whoever made THAT decision needs to be reamed out bigtime.

Reds look incredibly powerful in all forward spots bar one, Number 3.

That is crazy.

Sounds par for the course for the previous Reds management, get rid of the good blokes and hope the youngsters come good.

Truly hope the new management are better.

But jeez, we could really do with Holmes next year.

Giteau? He apparently bought property down the gold coast. Doubtful but let's just start the rumours anyway. Ioane is another possibility because of the lack of Jim Carmichael (the two had a falling out) which is why Diggers left after 2013. Probably bs as well but let's start the rumours (as I said above) and have fun

EDIT: source: the user 'Woldog' on TRF (yes not the best source but don't let the truth get in the way of a good story :))

What happened to Jono Owen? also I'll bang this drum again but how did no Australian team end up signing Mike Ala'alatoa?! Paul Alo-emile still has a year in France? Kieron Longbottom is perpetually injured these days so that's probably not an option either.

Mogg re-signed with Montpellier until 2019 and I am fairly sure Phil Kite is now signed with Northland in ITM Cup. His name has also floated around some French clubs I hear.

Jono Owen went to NZ, played for Auckland in ITM Cup last year- not sure if he was part of the Blues.

I never rated Jono Owen highly as a scrummager, wasn't too upset to see him leave, Phil Kite was also lacking in technique and his fitness was a constant issue.

Would love to get Paul Alo-Emile back though.

Paulies got another 2 Seasons at Stade. Then he'll be back to the Rebels when Hagan's contract is up.

2 seasons at Stade is 2 summers right? so he's a possibility to be back for 2018? also I think Paulie will go to the highest bidder

Another 2. Season 2016/17 and 2017/18, hence will come back around the same time as Houston this year, in 2018.

Needs a lot of work though. Packed on the pounds again, looking like he did in 2013, with the expected reduction in around the ground impact, but not with the hoped increase in scrummaging dominance.
