That sucks :(

I think it's time to grab our torches & pitchforks, form a good old fashioned mob & march on Ballymore if true...

The article quoted above re the matter of an RG reappointment also states:

"But the indisputable fact is that Graham has had three failed seasons with the Reds and another with the Western Force but still continues to command the support of influential members of the board.

"The line-up of talent for the Reds job is not to be sneered at. Ewen McKenzie’s former defence coach Matt Taylor is up for the job, as it former Leinster coach Matt O’Connor and Graham’s current assistant coach Nick Stiles, who was responsible for the set pieces — about the only element of the Reds’ game that worked this year."

We probably should put pressure on our clubs to in turn put pressure on board members to do something about this.
Even the ARU's becoming concerned with this reds malaise.
How about some transparency from the board.
For starters a response from Reds chairman Rod McCall as to where they're at & what they are trying to do would be very much appreciated.

Well that's depressing.

Doubly so when you consider that your opponents feel the same way! To white-ant Qld rugby from within by continuing to appoint a non-achiever as coach sends fears of declining Australian player quality through the other states. Sure we have a greater chance of beating you when we play, but our Test stocks take a tumble with this apparent decision.

If the above article is correct - and on these matters Wayne Smith tends to have very good sources - it is beyond extraordinary that the QRU board could commission an 'independent report' into the entire functioning of the Reds' HPU and then find via said report that the HPU and RG's coaching methods are 'dysfunctional' - all after 2 disastrous seasons, the QC (Quade Cooper) 'bitter goodbye', deeply disillusioned players, etc - and then proceed to not communicate with the public re the report (as they promised they would) and further, to reappoint RG.

If all this occurs, it points conclusively to what a number of us here have speculated: namely, that the QRU is an organisation gripped by a highly self-destructive combination of severe delusion, arrogance, incompetence, old-boy-network-introversion, and wholly unjustified self-importance.

If so, the consequences for all of Australian rugby will be extremely serious.

Let us hope sense returns at the brink, the stakes are very high.

RG is such a poor coach that any wins he has recorded are little more than chance. If you look at the records of historically really bad teams/coaches their win percentages will be down at his level of success which is really just an indication of chance.

As with all random chance events, eventually a successful run will occur, not through any skill or change in mindset but just through luck and this will occur in one season. Wait long enough and he will get a season of 8 or 9 wins which is seemingly much higher than his average, but the following season or 2 will be so dire as to balance this out. That "successful" season will have some convinced of a new dawn, or a RG coming of age, but all it will be will the vagaries of chance events.

Nice guy he may be, but surely he must realise he is not up to this level and is doing very real damage to rugby in this state and country. Surely the board must also realise this. Surely the ARU must all realise this. All of them (including RG) are responsible for this mess.

Obviously some serious dysfunction at the top levels. Seemingly no desire to commit to a decision and then communicate said decision to enable a clear plan or direction into the future.

Their approach has resulted in a complete malaise of rumour and dissatisfaction to the detriment of fans and the game itself.

Can only hope that this uncertainty ends soon and we start that long process of rebuilding once again. My question is, Is anyone accountable for the poor performance at top levels since 2012? If Wayne Smiths article is accurate it seems as though the findings of the commissioned report were not what some members of the board were hoping they would be.

If RG is re-appointed, the only way he'll be blasted out of his job will be via the non-performance (again) of the team in next year's Super Rugby season and/or by player revolt - delaying the inevitable at significant cost to Queensland rugby. I'd imagine many Reds' members will tear up their subscriptions.

Smith's story essentially confirms what a lot of us in this forum had heard last week especially regarding the 'delegation' of players who approached Reds' management expressing no confidence in the coach. Dismal state of affairs that may only get worse before it gets better.

PS The 'delegation' that approached Reds' management was described to me (by an impeccable source) as 'a dozen or so' players.

Btw, it was interesting in the Smith article that the ARU have openly declared that they would have granted another marquee slot to the QRU so's to retain A Thompson, etc. But that no such request was made.

Either means bungling incompetence at the QRU, or they consciously did not want Thompson back, or, perhaps the most likely of all, Thompson himself wanted out as soon as a viable alternative presented itself.

It's well known that we was on more than one occasion openly scathing re the Reds coaching establishment and its MO.

As far as I had heard/read, Thomson was quite vocal about his desire to stay in QLD. If there was an option to keep him then clearly they didn't want him or simply dropped the ball on that one.

The former would be hard to believe as he was one of our best all year and his combo with Gill was pretty much what kept us in most games. The latter on the other hand is the most likely option. The Reds are a circus.

"... ... ... unconvinced that any of the potential candidates to replace him has the necessary gravitas to be successful... ... ... "

Gravitas, n,
dignity, seriousness, or solemnity of manner.

I'd have thought that potential candidates would have required demonstrated competence and success in a Head Coach role with a professional Rugby team.

I am somewhat bemused to find that gravitas has such a high weighting in the selection criteria for the Reds Head Coach.

What gravitas does the current contracted Head Coach possess?

Is there a 'real' way to send a message to the Reds that as well as the dozen or so players that approached Reds management, the vast majority of the fan base also don't want Graham anywhere near the joint and his removal needs to happen now?

Is a petition an option? Would it be taken seriously? Is there anything else? Boycotting membership I don't think will have the immediate effect we want.

^^^^ One of those online petition thingys could be useful in sending a message to the Ballymore Board Room.

The Tahs faithful were able to get @Waratah Jesus a gig as the person who ran the ball on for a Tahs home game through an online petition.

For the good of Australian Rugby, the coaching situation at Club Red must be resolved.

Nobody who cares about the game in general, or the Reds in particular, should boycott anything.

Members should retain their membership. Let us not put the franchise in further jeopardy, puh-lease.

By all means have a say, have many, loud, says. But stay committed in every way.
