The Flash might be a crap superhero but he has by far the best song.

Actually Queen are singing about Flash Gordon, who's a different flash to "The Flash". Still a good song though.

Not sure if it's for a charity or anything, but Reds will no doubt tell us all about it on Sunday/Monday.

It should work out well to get the kids excited. My year 7-10 students all with the Flash TV series so it should have some appeal.

Whether you love them or hate them, Genia and Horwill have played a massive role in the Reds the past decade..

Fans sticking around to pay their respects to the two players

Yep.
If you aspire to achieve mediocrity, then Richard Graham is only a win or two a year away from achieving that goal.

If only it was 'mediocrity' - rather, it's closer to 'guaranteed disaster'.

The truth is Graham is the symptom not the true cause.

The QRU board chose him, because he was to them a charming, beloved ex-QLDer rugby mate that they, in all their lack of genuine modern rugby insight, thought would 'be a wonderful QLD-er coach with our magnificent Reds players'. His close connections to them, and their insular, egotistical view of the importance of those connections, was far more important to the QRU than a rigorous and objective assessment of his coaching abilities or an equally rigorous comparison of those abilities to other potential Reds HC candidates.

'Executive summary' of the last three years: how to fuck a franchise, slowly, from the very top down.

It's not over yet. This same board could not find a way to even agree, after two truly disastrous seasons, to sack Australia's worst Super rugby coach.

So, and this is beyond fucking belief and even stuns me still, they had to retain a non-independent 'independent' review panel to assess the matter of whether RG stays or goes and we all have to wait 3 or so more weeks for the genuis deliberations of yet more 'esteemed ex-Wallabies' to let us know.

The QRU board could not figure out the issue for themselves. So the grotesque end, or what might be the end as they may still continue on into 2016 with their self-regarding madness and foolery, perfectly fits the ugly birth of the beginning.

RH it's certainly interesting to read you criticise the notion of recruiting a QLD native coach on the hope that a local boy could lead the franchise on successfully, on the same forum that so many lament the overlooking of local young players for imports. We cannot have it both ways.

People want to see the local talent succeed.

Graham did have decent success as an assistant coach in Europe and for the wallabies. Yes his force record was poor. Much like his predecessor and successor though.

It's certainly fair to criticise the results it has yielded and the failure of the board to take action I agree.

But in sport which at times can be an emotional endeavour, sometimes the best candidate in the world cannot incite the same emotion that a local can.

Obviously Graham as failed, but let's aim the criticism the right way, Graham's ability as a Head Coach and his results, not the idea that it would be great to achieve success with a local.

I don't think RH is critical of the notion of having a "local" as coach, but the fact they seemed to have chosen Graham largely because he was a Qlder, and had close ties to those in power, rather than objective measures that he was the best candidate for the job. Or indeed that a proper search happened ( I don't know if it did or not, just speculating).

Is there or isn't there a specific thread for all this RG and coaching options chat?

But that's the same reason many advocate local talents over imports, such as Adam Thomson in the playing ranks.

The one thing you can say about RG coached teams is that they are fairly consistent.

If only they'd won last night. It would've been history repeating with 2 seasons of finally managing to string back to back wins together in Rds 16 & 17. But not even that skerrick of joy for Reds fans in 2015.

It's like we've become the Tannens from the Back to the Future series, one dimensional and keep crashing into shit.

I think 1 marquee player in a wider squad of over 30 is a bit different to a head coach in this respect, but I get what you're saying. A local coach will always be more invested in the club than an outsider, but in this day and age, that shouldn't be enough to offset a CV that might not stack up.
