Richo would just have them do push-ups all day. Is that you Richo?

Nah, i will never match Richo!!
Richo is still the same.... Went to a schoolboy match with him on Wednesday. Listening to him explain to the younger players what the First 15 were doing wrong makes me realise the depth of knowledge of the game that Richo has.
The loss of his former team-mate "Hippy" has had a profound effect on him.

Nice to have you back Mr Doug.

Thank you formerflanker.
I appreciate your comments and the support of others.
I'm sad for The Reds, but happy for the Force and the Rebels.
When I visited fellow-Gold Coasters Tai McIsaac and Dave Te Moana, at the Force training, 12 years ago, I realised how bloody far away they are from "we privileged folk" on the East coast! We need all Aussie teams to contribute to a strong Australian Conference in a RWC year. Sadly 'my Reds' are below-par, and in need an injection of testosterone to 'bring them up to an acceptable level'
I honestly think decisions at the executive level should have been made pre-season, and not left until now!!

Funny thing about Hipwell is that he was a teacher at the same school I met Richo. Although he taught woodwork, and didn't have much to do with rugby. Never brought it up, and almost none of the students knew who he was. Funny bugger, but a great bloke.

I found this bit interesting from Genia:

Paint that any way you like, a player in support of his coach does not dodge the question and say "I probably don't have too much of an opinion on that".

Jim Tucker thinks Graham is likely gone by the looks.
That was the only part of the article which was of any interest I thought. My interpretation of it is just the same as yours.

After watching the game on friday I finally came to the conclusion that most of the reds backline and performance issues this year have revolved around having Turner at fullback. Don't get me wrong, Turner has had a couple of great games this year, namely the force and rebels games, and offers some positive attributes to the team, but he is an absolute turnstile in defence, missed so many one on one tackles even before nadolo turned him into a human speed bump, and offers absolutely nothing in attack as he has turned into the slowest player in the team overnight somehow. his kicking for touch has been solid but the amount of times he has kicked it dead off penalties is astounding, never seen anything like it, and they are always huge momentum killers. i feel like JOC (James O'Connor) would be a better option at 15, it would get him involved a lot more and i feel his ability to chime in to the backline and his distributing skills would help the attack a lot. taulagi and hunt are even better options attack wise, although taulagi offers a similar level of shit defence. in summary, turner has to go. rant over.

Turner has been great at the back in defense. He has been extremely safe and reliable.

The worse a job the guys in the line do, the worse the one bloke at the back looks though.

He had a poor attempt at Nadolo. He also had to consider the lack of cover defense assisting and abundance of support with Nadolo when trying to make a decision. Almost every time he has needed to clean up a single runner on a break he has so far this year.

Being a fullback/winger myself and a longtime fan of Lachie's, i have kept a close eye on him and his play throughout the season, and for the most part his decision making and positioning in defence is very poor, head on the wrong side too often, and doesn't shepherd the attacking player well enough to make it a more straight forward take and reduce the ability to be stepped inside. while I don't discount the entire defensive system has been appalling, he has really stood out. and even more so in attack, i can't remember a time he has made a positive contribution in a backline move or created something for the winger. again, there is a reliance from getting quality ball from the inside backs, but he has had opportunities and more often than not tries to do a stutter step and run over people rather than using space and creating opportunities. our defence can't get much worse at the moment, but JOC (James O'Connor) and taulagi would provide much more spark in attack for mine which has been sorely lacking this season.

o_O whinging about the fullback missing tackles after units have waltzed through the rest of the side - that will do me

Does the fact that the attacking player has already broken another defender's tackle make the fullback's defensive effort null and void?

Part of his job as a fullback is to make 1 on 1 defensive reads/tackles... can't we say his defense hasn't been good simply because other players' tackling isn't up to scratch?

You can say it, but it is rubbish, there is little wrong with Turner's defensive efforts.

A full back will often miss that last tackle, especially when they are lining up in support around the ball carrier with no cover defense trying to get there or it is a unit like Nadalo, Turner's problem is that he is having to do 8,000 a game

Agreed. The more tackles you have to attempt, the more you will miss.

I like Turner, his cover defense has been great. However his front on hasn't been brilliant. IMO the hardest defense.

and if the ball carrier didn't beat the 15 you'd be saying he was a mug

I'm not sure if that pop gun is aimed at me however I wouldn't be saying that unless the ball carrier made a lazy, arrogant or poor decision with the ball in hand. If the defensive effort was good and the ball carrier's effort were to their ability then what more can you ask?

so i checked to see if i was going insane or not, these are turner's stats according to foxsports. TC is tackles completed, TM is tackles missed. So his stats this season are 31 tackles made, 23 missed. pretty symptomatic and typical of the entire reds team this season to be honest, but he has missed a sh**load for whatever reason which was the point i was trying to make. and I'm more annoyed at his lack of attacking impact more so than defensive efforts, coz we have scored the fewest tries and points in the comp this year, hence my suggestion to put in JOC (James O'Connor) or taulagi to try to improve that, as our defence can't get any worse.

Turner's defence has always been reliable. Like the rest of his game. He has always been tradesman like in his game, but has never really set the world on fire. In short he is a great depth player covering wing, FB and 13. Just don't expect him to break a game open or beat players one on one.

JOC (James O'Connor) was beaten by Nadolo in a one on one before the later even got his momentum up and going which Turner had to attempt to deal with.

Nadolo has improved out of sight since going to the Crusaders, and show just how poor Australian Coaching is IMO. Those years at the Tahs where he didn't get a start and couldn't catch, pass or kick. Now he is executing better than many Wallabies.

As I said it is strange to me that the Reds fail to sign Shipperly and Harris yet sign Turner. I just don't understand it, on average performances they could be perhaps rated at par, but the former Reds pair surely have more upside potential.

In a previous interview he said he needed the kick up the arse of not being wanted.

Coaching is one thing, but the big thing is between their ears, they have to want to be coached
