Im guessing Phil Kite will be on a flight up to Brissy sometime this week. I can't really think of another available tighthead prop who could seamlessly slot into the Reds squad and hold his own.

I thought hunt looked great, but he really didn't show enough to make me think that he is best used at 5/8. awesome defense, tough in contact, good boot. He did a good job in a position he hasn't yet mastered. I'd put him at fullback. Play JOC (James O'Connor) at 5/8; we have some good alternatives for wing

I can't see JOC (James O'Connor) at 5/8 against the Brumbies. He's not had a game since earlier in December. More likely on the wing for half a game with CFS.
Also I think Duncan will be polishing the pine as they need a specialist 5/8 (especially after the 2013? fiasco with fly halves) and possibly he'll come on in the second half, with Hunt going back to fullback replacing JJ Tualagi.

No McDuling Reg?

I doubt they'd go with both Magnay and CFS on the bench, they are too similar a player in outside centres / wings. Plus, I don't think Magnay is quite ready yet. Give him another year or two.

I would expect they'd go with Taps/Ant/Paia'aua where either Taps or Ant starts with CFS / Kuridrani / JJT, depending on which 2 of those three starts.

It will be a close call between Browning and Thomson as well.
I dont see Paia'aua getting a run this season.

It seems like Hunt, JOC (James O'Connor) or possibly Frisby will be starting prior to QC (Quade Cooper) coming back.

If it is Hunt or JOC (James O'Connor) then I would imagine that Frisby would be on the bench to back up 9,10 and 15 so I dont see a need for Paia'aua in the squad.

I also dont see JJ starting, Either Hunt or JOC (James O'Connor) will be 15 and if it is Hunt then JOC (James O'Connor) will be on wing.

Nonsense. He'll play minutes at some stage, but it'll be off the bench (as it should be) with JOC (James O'Connor) and/or Hunt playing the stop gap role.

Hopefully he isn't forced to shoulder more responsibility than his experience level and form suggests he is ready for.

I think due to injuries to the forwards they will have to run with more forwards than preferred on the bench, so you then need to look at reserve backs that can cover multiple positions.

I think he will get some time, but I don't see it being much more that 5 or maybe 10 minutes a game later in the season.

McDuling should have been in my injury assumptions.

I think with Hunt and JOC (James O'Connor) in the team, we cover 10 so no point for Duncan P to cover there. It comes to who is the better player and Magnay has impressed me more so far.

rego, although jj can be a game breaker, I think JOC (James O'Connor) at the 15 and cfs on the wing of is a safer option. salivating at the depth this year though!

Agreed that Magnay deserves some bench time in the first few rounds, at least. He could develop a lot faster than anyone imagined. Just needs to brush up on his defensive reads (who the fuck doesn't when they step up to Soup), can't fault much else he did against the Crusaders.

Honestly I could see him butting heads with CFS for game time throughout the season based on the form they're both showing at this moment. A good thing for both of them.

Definitely not far off the mark physically and showed some strong enthusiasm in his involvements/workrate.

My guess as it stands now and is likely to change. Assumptions are the following players are out injured:

Quade Cooper, Rob Simmons, Greg Holmes, Sef Faagase, Ed Quirk.

15 JJ Tualagi
14 James O'Connor
13 Samu Kerevi
12 Anthony Fainga'a
11 Chris Kuridrani
10 Karmichael Hunt
9 Will Genia
8 Jake Schatz
7 Liam Gill
6 Curtis Browning
5 James Horwill
4 Ed O'Donaghue
3 Sam Talakai
2 Saia Fainga'a
1 James Slipper

16 James Hanson
17 Ben Daley
18 ????? Some Tight Head Prop from somewhere. Phil Kite???
19 Marco Kotze
20 Adam Thomson
21 Nick Frisby
22 Ben Tapuia ???
23 Chris Feauia-Sautia

Not sure how Taps is placed. I guess Duncan could come in for him if Taps is out, but I'd also seriously consider Campbell Magnay.

Even missing Quade, that's an exciting backline. I'd like to see Kotze get a run over EOD (if Simmons is out) but I don't know how likely that is.

It's great to have real competition footy to look forward to at the end of a work week again!

I wouldn't be too surprised if Kotze got the start, but I think 20 minutes of menace at the end might be ideal for him. As much as I like the impact he's been having in the NRC and trials, he does have a habit of letting the errors in towards the end of each half, as he tires.

EOD had a fucking horrendous opening stanza against the Crusaders and didn't improve much after that period. Kotze better start.

Seriously, if he spent more time actually playing hard instead of just doing stupid shit and committing stupid penalties in an attempt to look like he's playing hard (also lots of angry faces, lots) and he wouldn't be a bad backup.

Who? EOD or Kotze?

EOD.

The ~10-15 minute period following that absolutely retarded penalty he gives away in the first few minutes (trying to pilfer at a ruck that he was clearly offsides in for a solid 5 seconds before the referee stops warning him and just blows the whistle - not a single other Reds player involved in the breakdown if memory serves) had me borderline raging at my computer screen.

After that insane penalty, the paleness of his thighs made him pretty much impossible for me to miss for the next 10 or so minutes and I regret every second of it. He did a few good things but did several stupid things for each of those involvements.

On the bright side, does he look like he put on some bulk in the offseason to anyone else?

Well after that performance against the Crusaders I can officially confirm that the season memberships have been renewed.

Our roster is exciting, please don't let us down Richard.

Finally renewed my Forever Reds membership as well.

Mine was just a case of laziness, finally got around to renewing.

I'm the same, need to renew my forever reds membership... I was waiting to see if they were going to have a NSW based membership like they did last year but haven't heard anything about it so I guess not.

Ok, so there's been the chatter about the new recruits etc, but what happened to the Hendrik Tui guy. Has he arrived yet, is he playing or training or what? I haven't heard anything about him yet this year.

He's actually doing english lessons. RG has said he can't play until he understands the words "crouch , bind, and set", from the ref, and "hit him in the fukkin head" from the skipper.
