What are the thoughts on O'Connor at 13 in a Conrad Smith type role?

Pigs flying come to mind Sully.

Having seen him play since Under 16s, and watching him on France on a regular basis now, and everything in between, I don't think he will play 13 in a Conrad Smith type role. He is not that type of player.

I think his best position is at fullback. He has made some brilliant incursions from there for Toulon though he has been very effective on the wing. I may have rose-coloured glasses on but I think he is using his supporting runners better than he did for the Rebels.

But I wouldn't let him wear the 13 jersey.

I don't think there are any doubts that whatever combinations are used in the back line for 2015, there are lots of points to be scored.

Whether or not our forwards are able to lay a solid platform is going to be the question. Good signs so far with Horwill and Saia both finding some form for the Wobs.

Looking at the forward signings so far (Thomson, Tui, Lolo) I think its fair to say they'll be playing with a bit more width off the ruck. For that reason I wouldn't be surprised if the Reds are looking at 'around the park' skills for the prop they want to sign over possibly a more solid scrum base.

Interesting tidbit: Albert Anae has accepted a call-up to the Samoa National Squad for the end of season tests…Turning his back on Aus Rugby

It was probably fairly unlikely that Albert would have got an Aussie cap so good luck to the bloke. This way he gets test caps and gets to play some internationals

Godfrey

Phil Hardcastle (33)
He was in one of McKenzie's first squads last year wasn't he? Something about him being well suited to the new scrum laws. In hindsight perhaps he is lucky he never got a cap as I doubt he would be getting many more opportunities.

Hasn't had the best cattle to run with the big guns to be fair. Digby and others just weren't replaced since the 2011 champ team success. Looking AWESOME next year. Another bunch of guys thatl have to get used to quades style.....but ifthey do.......the REDS will be one of the HOT favs next year again. :) :) :)

Should be easy, they will have a 10 who can put the ball in front of them and allow them to catch the ball.

I hope Frisby gets lots of game time next year, he has looked good for Brisbane

Yeah, I wouldn't say Quade's "style" is an issue at all like it used to be. Aside from when he still hesitates to just take contact and instead stands up swiveling his head..he's fixed most of the other issues and largely eliminated the erraticism from his game.

As @liquor box mentioned above, his style these days is more that he draws defenders, has the best long and short passing game in world rugby, and puts the ball in front of players even when he's under serious pressure.

His territorial kicking game has come along leaps and bounds since 2012 as well.

Frisby has me excited too, he's discovered a level of dynamism to his play in the NRC that I didn't even know he had.

Not knocking Frisby, though I'm not a big fan, but for the sake of Aus rugby I hope he doesn't get a lot of time next year simply because Will is back to his best and plays most time in most games.

Hopefully Genia is fully recovered AND back to his best. I thought he was terrible last year (except the beauty he had in the last game) and should have be dropped and Frisby given a real shot.

Frisby plays each like its his last. He is enthusiastic and shows that on the field.

However, Genia at his best is great and will be a very important link in the re-invigerated Reds

I've said this before that I really hope the Reds are in discussions about Genia's future and what he wants to do post-RWC.

I agree that an in form Genia currently offers a great platform for the Reds in 2015, however, if he has expressed a desire to leave the organisation in 2016 then maybe there needs to be more balance of time between him and Frisby.

Is it worth alienating a player of Frisby's quality with little game time for someone who may jump shit in the near future? Frisby will surely be looking to cement a starting spot soon or at least significant playing time in order to push his claim for a wobs jersey over the next few years. Don't want him to feel under-valued at the Reds and head to another province.

I may be romanticizing due to lack of context and knowledge but the way Frisby has taken the game into his hands and ignited the City side over and over again during matches reminds me of the way some old heads have described Ken Catchpole to me in the past - just an absolute live-wire, something you can't really teach.

He looks like he's having the time of his life out there too - I love that.
