I think a lot if it has to do with S&C, the guys look like they are lacking in fitness, I don't think it's directly on the staff either, the Reds players this season have been known to go have a few drinks, anyone around Crown Casino last Saturday morning might have bumped into a few players slightly worse for wear.

In terms of fitness, as soon as you are fatigued your fine motor skills(passing & catching)are the first to degrade concurrently your mental ability to make quick decisions is reduced.

Whilst last weekend was the contrary, I think in most games this year the Reds second half has been statistically worse then the first.

The Reds are a lighter/leaner team, and should therefore be running the other packs off the field and coming home strong, like they did in the 2011/2012 seasons, but it just isn't happening this year.

Whilst the players need to take responsibility what is the reason for their decline in personal motivation as a whole? Some of this comes back to the coaching also. If players wouldn't go out for a drink under link but will under graham some of that comes back to graham also

I knew a few of the Reds players who liked to go out on the drink in 2011. If they still do the same thing is it an issue? It has to do with what they do at training and how they look after themselves.

I don't know too many who are hitting it hard all the time though.

The Reds lost their S&C coach on really short notice at the start of the year (or end of last year?) and I think their whole S&C regime this year has been a bit of a mess as a result.

Not too sure what if they have resolved that issue for next year yet or not.

Someone here surely knows more...

(Not "Shirley knows Moore", either.)

BTW, anyone else notice how much Albert Anae has porked up? And I don't think he's on the only one, either.

I did notice that on the weekend but in saying that, he's never been super svelte. He did become a dad mid way through the season though. I would say that I've porked up a bit since I did the same also. Not sure if there's a link. ;)

While Albert has put on some weight I'm pretty sure most of it is muscle. He smashes the gym. Also being in the frontrow a bit of extra size and power will never go astray. I do think he is now a prop and no longer a prop/hooker that he was.

On the S&C thing Marsh went to the Brumbies at the start of last year, from memory. Oli Richardson was his assistant and took over the lead role. I guess it's the same as with Graham in that when they guy before you had a lot of success it's a hard act to follow.

Are the Reds counting anyone who buys a ticket as a Member this year? Seem to have picked up another 3500 members this week which looks odd in the usual context of a being a member given there is 1 game to go.

Does have them very close to their 50,000 members target though.

It may be the like the XXXX 1 Game memberships they did for the Tahs game a year or two ago. Brewery Tour + game ticket + a bunch of membership merch etc.

Actually, I think it must be that everyone who opts for this Reds Ticket + Free Cap deal is a new member. Should easy get past 50,000 then.

Marsh left around October last year (2013) I think it was. There was a bit of back and forth and unfortunately, as you know, that's basically pre-season. So it left us behind the 8-ball from a planning perspective. Richardson went from the team rehab man to being head of S&C. Whether he was the best man for the job or simply the best man at the time, perhaps shows with the current team.

From what I can discern from a number of discussions on here, the ARU have to approve the super rugby contracts between players and the franchises, is that correct?

I imagine that is in order to try to keep a handle on who is where for the good of the game overall, is that right?

Do they have any say in who coaches which team? I wonder, because if they are concerned about which players are playing for which franchise, then surely they must be concerned with who is looking after those players and preparing them for higher honours.

Yeah it would put the players and staff on the back foot. Head of S&C is a vital role in the pro game.

I'm not aware or familiar of players drinking in 2011, no doubt it occurred, and to be clear I'm not against drinking in moderation, just drinking in abundance..

I haven't studied any form of S&C apart from the casual book, articles and magazines so I'm not qualified in the area, but I have to admit I was surprised how heavily some of the Reds were drinking.

When I was competing at the CrossFit games in 2013 I wouldn't drink the week of an event let alone the hours following an event.. To me, that only delays the recovery and whilst recovering you aren't training to your optimum ability.

Maybe the occasions I know of are unique for the season, so I don't want to say it's an inherit problem in the team culture if it was a one off..
