But seriously it goes to prove a few grey hairs endows respect - ex high level player too doesn't hurt. As a rule I think forwards make better coaches - They get the forwards firing and this helps rest of the team follow. (Caveat being they are not suffering too much brain damage....)

Its a tough one but good recruitment is always the key to the success of any organisation...

From an business / executive perspective this is where I think ex-players should be left out unless their business expertise is proven - the Reds were one of the few profitable organisations within the ARU - now due to some very poor decisions will heap more pressure on the ARU's bottom line.

Rumours floating around that O'Connor is on his way back to Ballymore next year.

If so, RG is evidently the last person you'd want coaching him, or maybe on par with Deans.

If he has indeed been secured, the QRU need to pull the pin and make sure they find a disciplinarian that can get O'Connor and Cooper firing on the football field and acting like role models off it. As much as I don't think he's been good for any teams culture, he is an undeniably once in a generation talent and we need the right coach to handle him.

Nearly everyone on here had their doubts about RG and expressed them.
Link basically sold you guys the pup of I'll hold his hand for a season and all the issues he had at the Force will be a distant memory.
I know the response is he had to be allowed to pursue his ambition to coach the wobblies but the transition needed to be handled better.
Wayne Smith (AB not journo) is more than worth a look pay him whatever it takes: very important that the Reds get back on track ASAP for the rest of us!

Agree Aussie rugby suffers when Reds suck... especially financially... with NRL now cashed up and veto powers on any marquee raids Rugby needs to be self-sustaining - HIRING doofus coach is extremely short sighted and has regressed rugby significantly despite recent gains....

I do believe RG is one of the main problems but he isn't the only one. The general attitude of this team is a key issue. Nothing pissed me off more when I played than seeing my team mates put their heads down if a team scored, it sets a mental precedent and any good team will pick up on it. The Reds started this after the 2nd try in the 2nd half. They all walked back with their heads down and they were only down 13 points at home! Horwill, who I am a big fan of, was the worst offender and his captaincy this year has been nothing short of appalling. No matter how bad a coach and his directions or SELECTIONS might be you can still be your own captain and step up in moments like that by firing up your team rather than thinking you are going to get smashed.
The Lions game, the Force and the Brumbies games were lost all on the back of a team that were not guided by their captain in the dying stages. Horwill should lose the captaincy and RG the role of coach for this shambolic and embarrassing season and especially yesterday's performance.

McCall is the main culprit and the board in General. I am sure Carmichael would have very little to do with recruitment as he is clueless when is comes to rugby.

The logic being:
Good Coach = Happy players = Success = Crowds = Dollars

versus:

Average Coach = Unhappy players = No Success = No Crowds = Bankruptcy

Pretty Simple, would have thought that the Chiefs in the QRU would have learnt there lesson.

Reds are paying for lack of a backup specialist 7 in the squad.

It's largely been a case of No Gill, no Reds.

Beau isn't a specialist 7? that'd be news to him! 7 is the least of our worries.

I always felt Foley should have been the next Reds coach after Link, he always fitted the Reds mould imo. An opportunity lost unless they gazzump the FOrce again. For some reason ex forwards seem to be superior coaches.... particularly those that played in the front row. THis should be the first criteria.

I'd take Totality Tony, the Rebs have looked good this year and the interviews I have seen he looks pretty switched on. They can put Higgs on the plane with TT and send him home. They'll probably stay in Melbourne though, develop the team and kick arse in 2015.

i think the jury is still out on TT. some very strange selections and game tactics this year.
especially if you are thinking of improving your attack, only the stormers have scored fewer points than the rebs this year. trying to play jakeball light, but without the resources,

still might be enough to beat you guys next week

And in terms of team matters, presumably future ones, he's addressing 'the deficiencies' identified.

All on wrt an offer to J'OC apparently, or so reported.

And categorically, definitely 'the team is not divided'.
