Reds have got young James Hanson whos captaining uni and scoring a try nearly every game as there reserve hooker. I'm sure theres someone coming up through the system to be the 3rd hooker as well.

As for flankers shatz is getting to big to play openside. But quirk and gill are showing a lot of promise in the under-20's which is good to see. The addition of McMenamin and even Vickerman? would go along way to adding depth to the forward pack. I think the reds are one class forward off having a really good team.

In the backs Davies has really come on, as has Morahan. Young Situati is playing some very good rugby in the under 20's and in the 7's side. Add to that Ioane, Hynes and Chambers, with Lucas also playing fullback and we're pretty set for outside backs. I'm surprised the Rebels or Force did'nt make a play for Lucas. He's a very handy player to have.

1. Slipper
2. S. Fi
3. Daley
4. Symmons / Humphreys
5. Horwill (c)
6. Higginbotham/McMemamin (possible vc?)
7. Quirk/Gill
8. Houston/Higginbotham
9. Genia (vc)
10. Quade
11. Ioane
12. A. Fi
13. Chambers
14. Davies
15. Hynes

16. Hanson
17. Shepardson/Holmes
18. Symmons/Humphreys
19. Shatz
20. Lucas
21. Tapuai
22. Morahan/Situati

I think you would have to swap the Props around. Slipper at THP and Daley at LHP.

The U20's coaches are helping out with the future Reds backrow starting in the win against SA. 6. Quirk 7. Gill 8. Shatz

Houston cannot last the whole game. I would rather have him as a 20 minute impact player then a 60 minute average player.

Does anyone actually think Houston CAN get fitter? He strikes me as an enormous talent (pun semi-intended) that needs someone to get it into his skull that he has a wonderful opportunity to make pretty good money playing a game if he can put his head down and do some work. I would love to see it happen - he has all the skills to be a very good #8.

Whoops good point. Didnt even realise.

The Vickerman suggestion was just a rumor I saw in the paper a few days ago, hence the question mark.

Your point about Houston is very apt, pedallist. Oz rugby desperately needs a few more big bruisers at number 8 and if Leroy doesn't understand the opportunities available to him right now, well I give up. He's a player I thought would benefit from the polish Deans could give him. Maybe the step up in fitness this year was a big stretch for him and he needs to be comfortable at this new level. Or, unfortunatley, maybe this is the best he can do.

A fit, polished and motivated Houston would add enormously to our RWC chances. As would Douglas.

Watching the U20, Shatz seems to be growing into the number 8 role literally and figureatively, even since the end of the S14 season he seems to have bulked up a bit(in comparison to quirk and others). I still dont think he will provide as much of the power game as houston does, but he makes up for it in superior fitness and mobility.

However i think we might be discounting Houston a little to early, he made a remarkable improvement in the 2010 pre-season and there is no reason why he cant continue to improve, he is still only 23yrs old.

Give us a trial match at Skilled Park. I'd be down there in a flash as would 3000 others. Probably less

I agree chief that the Reds should definetly take a game to the Gold Coast..
I think it would get quite a decent crowd and attract a bit of media attention, in saying that i also believe that the Gold Coast deserves the chance to host a wallaby test

Been saying all along, they should have had the Fiji test.

Does the sunshine coast have a decent venue? There could be oppurtunity to stamp a mark up there while it is still uncharted by the other codes.

The Reds should be taking a chance and moving a couple of games into new territory. Last time I checked, they were not the Brisbane Reds. They now have a good brand to promote so go out and promote it.

The Gold Coast is becomming the promise land for a number of codes, ones with a shit load more power than Rugby. The big question is will the game realistically be recieved on the GC as the family dollar only stretches so far and the population as of next year will be spoilt for choice. The QRU should hold their heads in shame for not making moves down their several years ago.

Adelaide is deserving of a test. They have recieved the sevens well and the last time they did play a test down there it went well when the Wallabies played PIRA.

Well ruggo, there are several factors involved...

Firstly, Sunshine Coast does not have anywhere suitable to host a game, there are plans to build a stadium however this is still a few years away.
Secondly, yes the Gold Coast has been the focus of expansion for NRL and AFL, however i see no reason why the Reds will not be able to squeeze in a game earlier in the year before the NRL and AFL kick off to steal some of the attention, this has not happened in the past because there was not a suitable stadium until Robina Stadium was built a couple of years back. Yet in recent years a major restriction has been the limited number of games in the Super14 season, its a bit rough for a member to buy a membership to the Reds only to see one of the game(which equates to around 15% of the overall matches) moved down to the gold coast, however with the expanded season this will now be possible.

Adelaide does deserve a test to a extent, however there lack of suitable stadium is a major factor, with the pros/cons weighed up

In 2013 the Adelaide Oval redevelopment is finished it looks completely awesome.

Sunshine Coast has a venue good enough for a Reds trial match. They took a trial match to a shotty Towoomba ground a few years back.

Robina Stadium has to be used this year. I hope it can be used for a game against like the Force or Melbourne or Waratahs. I'd be down there in a second.

Cheers TOCC.

All valid points you make and I can most certainly understand a season ticket holder being upset at a move. I just get annoyed that very little if any attempt is made to spread and promote the game. The years since the 2003 RWC have been one big miserable disopointment in terms of expanding the game. To me that was the opening of the door but sadly nobody walked through it. Townsville showed promise, the NRL has neglected the Central Coast and the Tahs have idley watched by like dip shit and not capatilized.

Somebody has to step out of their comfort zone and have a crack for the game to grow. Their seems to be some smarts and some drive in the QRU admin now, so hopefully they can work on some of these issues.

Stockland Stadium on the Sunshine Coast could indeed host a trial match, heck any ground with half decent facilities could host a trial match, its not up to the standard needed for a season proper match though.

problem is that Adelaide Oval is still a Oval, which doesnt do the game any justice and IMO almost does most harm then good, on top of that you then have to figure out on who is going to miss out on a test.

Your right on the oval thing. Not talking a big test but say the Fiji test could be played at Hindmarsh. Since the A League it has become of a decent standard and holds a decent crowd. Speaking of ovals, are you blokes in SE QLD pissed that the ARU has taken the Bledisloe to an oval when you blokes have the best rectangle Stadium in the Country in your back yard? I don't blame you if you are.

Its fair enough that Melbourne get a Bledisloe we can't not give Sydney one. They got a shitty test match last year, I am sick of the South African test matches though.

But we won't get a Bledisloe until 2012. As there are not many games on next year, Australia are hosting 2 Tri-Nations games. So because $$ is $$ Stadium Australia will get the Bledisloe and Brisbane will get the South African test I would presume.

I definetly think a Trial match should be taken to Stockland Park for sure. You are certainly right about season ticket holders being pissed off. But they do really need to play a test down there. Last match was played against the Highlanders in a trial match obviously attendance was about 3.5k. That's not too bad, good for a Trial match. But the crowd that would go down to the Gold Coast to watch would be completely shocking 8-9k.

In the 90's the Reds played a trial game at Coolum (game was shown on Fox at the time) but they haven't been back since. They also played a Super match v Highlanders in Townsville a few years back. I always thought that they should play a Super game in a regional centre every 2 years when they get the extra game. I would have liked the Blues game this year to be played outside Brisbane but they went to Ballymore instead. With the expanded comp as of next year I think an annual game at a regional ground would be great. Townsville, Rocky, Goldie or Toowoomba would all be great. If they want to expand the game to rural areas you have to give the locals a chance to see a live game. At least one trial game should be played out of Brisbane each year, Sunny Coast would be great. Most of us are so keen for some rugby to watch they would get a good crowd up there on a Saturday night. Mt Isa might be a bit of a stretch though.

Reds backrow for me next year.

6. Higgers
7. Gill
8. Shatz

Lucas can be the reserve halfback, and inside back. Which frees up another forward position on the bench.
