Well, as I said before in some thread: I go to all the Tahs home games but when I watched them live on TV this year I looked forward more to watching the Reds than my own team.

The Tahs have been playing dire footie for some years now, a bit like Knuckle's Queensland teams in the old days, and watching the 2010 Reds was like a breath of fresh air.

I thought the Tah's did themselves a lot of favours towards the end of this season, though. The fans that did see those last 4 or 5 games should be licking their lips for next year.

Yeah but they looked good at the end of the 2009 season too and had a crack in South Africa and won all 3 games, albeit with a bit of luck. Yet they were back to dire rugby again at the start of 2010.

Sure the forwards have to have the go forward first; so maybe that is the key point. Stop me if you have heard this before. This inconsistency in providing go forward and stopping go forward is topical for all pro rugby teams, and all league teams for that matter, but Oz teams, including the national team, suffer from it more often than others.

It will be a brave person who says that the Wallabies will have more go forward games this winter than not.

But i digress.

so who are the Reds going to get for there reserve halfback, assuming that the last position on the roster after Quade is going to a halfback.

How about we keep it in the family and sign the little genia, his only played U20's which means his still elegible for Australia

well no Will Genia isnt fit and playing, he is in fact out injured at the moment.. Were lucky it was the last game of the year otherwise we would have been screwed, with Lucas already filling in elsewhere in the backline, it would have been up to the now departing Kingi to fill the halfback role, coverage we dont have in 2011.

Depth is the backbone to all succesful teams

I reckon get Prior from Uni into the Academy. He looks to have real potential, and with the professional attention that he would get in the Academy he would improve a lot, making him a handy emergency for the top squad. Lucas is the obvious back up at the moment. Other guys worth considering are Hamlin from Souths and Grasso from Brothers.

As for the 10 spot, obviously Lucas is there as back up, but Fainga'a can play there as well, and Tapuai could fill in at a pinch. Be interesting to see what Lance is doing next year as he can fill 10 and 12.

With Situati at 13 in the OZ under 20's, that is an indication to the Reds of an option for that spot.

Things aren't so bad really.

Things could not be better.

Except for hooker and halfback.

The Reds should get Brendan McKibbin back. He's had a great season to date for the Junior Waratahs and Eastern Suburbs. Knows how to kick a goal too.

I would personally like to see Lucas moved back to 5/8 or even fullback, whilst i think he went well at halfback i think he is better in the actual backline, bring McKibbin into the squad and have him as the bench halfback and have Lucas as the bench utility player

mmmmm, interesting. Back up flyhalf and fullback? Total cock head however. Still massively injury prone

Queensland coach Ewen McKenzie does not rule out picking up Mat Rogers

By Bret Harris and Margie McDonald
June 08, 2010

Queensland Reds coach Ewen McKenzie has not ruled out the possibility of recruiting dual international Mat Rogers if his NRL career comes to an end.

McKenzie coached Rogers at NSW Waratahs for three years before the brilliant utility back decided to return to rugby league with the Gold Coast Titans in 2007.

Although he will be 35 years old when the expanded Super 15 series kicks off in February next year, Rogers is a gifted athlete, who can play anywhere from five-eighth to fullback and can also kick goals.

Asked whether he would be interested in Rogers, McKenzie said: "You never say never."

Titans chief executive Michael Searle said it would be hard to fit Rogers, who is recovering from a serious knee injury, into the club's playing roster for next season.

"I think it's fair to say we've had preliminary talks with Matty and realise it would be difficult for him (to remain), particularly with our salary cap position for 2011," Searle said.

"But Mat has been terrific for us and we'll do everything we can to support him, work with him for life after football. If he does get an opportunity with the Reds, well that's great too. He'll add a lot of value to their squad and a lot of experience as well."

McKenzie's priority is to re-sign Wallabies five-eighth Quade Cooper, who has received an offer from the Western Force.

Cooper may not make a decision until he receives a top-up offer from the ARU, which is waiting for his court case on a burglary charge to be heard on July 2.

While Cooper is expected to stay in Brisbane, he has expressed a desire to play with his good friends James O'Connor and David Pocock, who are at the Force.

"Quade's options are still open," Cooper's manager Richard Colreavy said.

"He's still talking to both state unions. He's not giving anything away

Yeh no thanks Rogers. Reds will be pushing for finals for another 2-3 years and need players who actually want to be there, not players who have lucked out with one more professional contract, even though they are past their use by date. Ideally, I would like to think the Reds can attract some ex-QLD Reds players back to Brisbane.

ideally, we would get a player who can play 10 and 15. Can someone clarrify Paul Warwick? Has he played for Ireland, Ireland A? I think he's played Aussie 7s right? He'd be worth a shout. An ex-Red and all. James O'Connor is the local option, although he's re-signed out west.

Scotty Daruda? Where is he these days? I'd consider him too. I guess Sam Norton-Knight, pseudo QLDer.

Matty Rogers? No thanks. Don't need him, don't want him.

Read a report somewhere over the weekend that McMeniman and/or Heenan were sniffing around for a return. Anyone know if there's any substance to this?
