Yeah, sorry, to clarify, I mean a wobblies regular, like slipper has become.

Mr Tank

What still bugs me is that we lost weeks to the rebels. I gotta wonder if he's sorry he made the move now? maybe the money on offer was good, but boy, what a front row we would have had this year with him in it. You guys may think I'm way off the mark, but to my mind, if he keeps up the form that he had with us in 2010, I would give him a shot at the wobblies........

I understand the Rebels gave him an offer that was too good to refuse, and not monetary. My understanding is that there may be some personal issues with his family and the Rebs were offering him consistent travel to and from Sydney (along the lines of once a week travel). I also understand that while the Reds desperately wanted to keep him they could hardly fault his reasoning and wished him the best for the move. I am a massive Reds and Weeks fan, but it seems to me he made the best decision.

Weeks was capped this year? As was Daley and Slipper!

Actually not. Weeks was chosen in the squad but didn't get a game. He played for the Oz Baas team though. How do I know? I made this error myself when someone contradicted me and I looked it up. I'm looking at you Bruce.

Welcome aboard tank (a front rower?).

The mail was that the connection with Rebels assistant coach Damien Hill had something to do with it. He was Weeks' coach at Sydney Uni.

As someone prone to occasionally indulge in irony myself, I like your work, Mr T. The truth is that Link was apoplectic about Lawrie leaving and the parting was anything but harmonious.

I don't think that Hilly had much to do with it, LG.

When Lawrie came back to Sydney soon after he started with the Reds, he mentioned to me that he would have a look at the Rebels for 2011. He stated that a condition of re-signing with the Reds or signing with anyone else was that he would have the right to come back and play for Sydney Uni after the Super season finished. I presume that that clause is in his Rebels contract. When I mentioned this some months ago our northern contingent were very vocal in castigating Weeks and in maintaining that as the Reds were his employer they could direct him wherever they liked.

Presumably this policy is intended to shore up the Brisbane club competition. Fair enough, but let's see how many of the Reds are released to come back to Sydney to play for Kevin Moloney's Southern Districts.

Im still of the stance that if he is getting paid by the QRU, then he plays his club rugby in QLD......Its absolutely no different to the rule that Wallaby players are only selected if they rugby within Australia...
The rumor of players been released to Southern Districts has to do with a financial arrangement, none of us here are privy to the details or whether it actually went through..Yet if its a case that Southern Districts are paying part of there wage, then there is merit behind releasing players there, especially for a cash-strapped organisation like the QRU...

Weeks is good but he made his decision and we will not miss him at all. Weeks = mobile prop and good scrum. Slipper = mobile prop and good scrum. He will not be missed.

Jersey is a shocker. Look no further than my avatar to see a real QLD jersey.

Hopefully the boys are keeping level heads. Will be at the shithouse Olympic stadium cheering the boys on to smash the filthy tahs in 2 weeks. Cannot wait. Especially to heckle the TRAITOR.

Reds will tick over 12'000 members today, still short of there 15'000 target, but they can expect maybe another 1-2'000 in the coming weeks.

Broncos are expecting aroudn 14'000, Brisbane Lions had 29'000 in 2010 but will probably have a signficant drop in 2011

12,000 is awesome. I never thought they'd get than many. I wonder how many are purely regional/non-ticket ones.

Do you really think they'll get a few more thow in the next few weeks? I guess it is a few weeks till the next game, so if they put in some good performances v Force, Tahs and Brums it will be all systems go for the home game v Rebels.

I beleive the QRU will continue to sell memberships for at least the first 4 games of the season, from my calculations they have been processing about 800-900/week since mid Jan, so they could probably add on another 1500 members(one would expect thingst to slow down a bit after the first game). I expect there might be a bit of a membership drive at the first game as well, so that could potentially create a bit of a influx.

Who knows, its essentially unknown territory

Surely we don't need a history lesson - both are "traitors".

I suppose in essence they are, but Drew left for the money, i cant honestly blame anyone who switches jobs/teams for money, its a reality of life..

Barnes on the other hand left because of ..... a perceived easier opportunity to win a super14 premiership at the Tahs??

I dunno, it doesnt bother me anymore, it seemed it worked out better for both teams anyway...

Well he did reach the semis in his first year there... closer in his first year than he had been with all 3 (4?) years with the Reds.

He also mentioned after the week 1 victory over the Reds last year that he hadn't been part of a victory like that before and that's exactly why he changed teams.

Phil Hardcastle (33)
That's textbook traitor though.. rather than sticking it out and doing your best to get your side up there you just go and join a side that's already winning. Pathetic.

The Difference was there importance to the club at the time. Barnes leaving was nearly as bad as Nathan Sharpes and both should be ashamed.

I would think if they have a good win on Sunday they could pick up quite a few new members the following week. Everyone loves a winner.

Ive said my piece on Barnes, everyone expressed there thoughts on him in 2010, i really dont think we need to talk about him further in this thread...

Well I want to (first and last time, I promise...), Barnes can almost be held, single-handedly, responsible for the position the Reds are in now.

IF Barnes had don the noble thing and stayed at the reds, NOTHING would have changed, they would have done their season review and "got on with it". Him leaving forced change and that change has flowed on to what we see now.

He chose to change employers, nothing at all wrong with that, but there should be no hate.
