Can't agree with Phipps over Rangaboy. Especially when the Tahs put Lucas in.

Stirzaker has been a promising 9 for some time but can't see him over Phipps at this stage

In relation to Lucas - the only place he deserves is some time in the Development squad - I have seen him choke numerous times at Super level - McKibbin is not much better either passing over the head of players at least 3 or 4 times a game minimum. Good move to get Phipps for next year

I'm going to have a go at stating the bleedin' obvious:

Both teams are proven, and in form, attacking teams. Defence, discipline in the defending 22 and control of the breakdown will win this, pure and simple.
Not wanting to sound nasty, but are the Rebels 'in form'?? Surely you base your performance on your wins/loss? You may be competative, but you need to win games. Before last weekend, the Rebels previous win was against the Force in Round 8.....

I wouldn't say the Rebels were 'in form'. Don't get me wrong, I think the way the Rebels have been playing is showing some great signs for the club, but they would hardly be happy with thier season.

Fair?

Sounds about right for other clubs, but in Rebels-speak, losing a few by a converted try or less, then going for back to back wins = form. :D

You have got to be kidding, usually the time he has got he has been impressive.

Is douglas really fit for this weekend?

He was pole axed

Looked fine in training yesterday, didn't seem to have any issues.

Although I am always wary about a player coming straight back in after being knocked out. There should be a mandatory 10 day rest period or something, some players in the NH have admitted fudging their RTP tests at the start of the season so they can get back in the team as quickly as possible if they get knocked out

Isn't there a mandatory three week period for concussion? That was implemented last decade

I thought so too, but they do those tests with players to check the level of concussion first during the week. So, either Douglas passed the concussion tests the next day (or in the next days), or he did what lots of other players do - purposely flunked the control tests at the start of the year.

If the players are flunking the base line concussion tests in order to get more time on the field after they do actually suffer a concussion, then they are being very very foolish with their long term health. What is more they are possibly forgoing any legal recourse they may have against their former employer later in life when/if the long term brain damage presents itself.

I would imagine that the Medics defence will be that the player passed all the protocols on each occasion against the approved test regime, which had been endorsed by IRB, and various medico/legal types. "Here are the test results to support my assessment. I was a little surprised by the results but who am I as a simple sports physician to challenge the approved test which had been developed by Professor Snooks, Associate Professor Snodgrass et al in association with the College of Neurosurgeons etc etc ".

The player will legally hung out to dry, and has no one else to blame apart from themselves over what "seemed like a good idea at the time".

Its already been discussed on a number of threads so I won't go into the details again, but I couldn't agree more. The decision needs to be taken out of the players and the team medics hands and put into an independent doctors hands who assumes all liability. Its the only way, IMO, to ensure that players are fully healed before taking the field again.

The hippocratic oath is meant to ensure that all doctors are independent and act in the best interests of their patient at all times.

Horne did fill in a bit today at 12, and I'd say that around the 50 minute mark we'll see Barnes move to 10 and Horne into 12. Foley at times recently has looked tired and could do with a rest.

The reserves always do some of the training drills during the week.

Glad to see that you got to see a training session JSRF.

There is a preview of this match and the other Oz games in a blog I did here:

True, but legal liability and the Hippocratic Oath are different beasts. Think of the Hippocractic Oath as more like a voluntary code of conduct.

I think of it as a rather quaint way for doctors to either swear or make a toast on special occasions. I can see cyclo stubbing his toe and letting loose with a big "HI-ppo-CRATIC OATH, ya bastard!"

I heard the MCG is a sellout tonight, so expect all the public transport to be slow and the local bars to be chockers.

Good advice, oztimmay. The carpark at Rod Laver arena opposite AAMI Park will fill up very quickly and traffic will be a dog's breakfast.

The river taxi from Southbank to Rod Laver arena should be running tonight for those late-comers (or fat lazy bastards like me) who are coming in via Flinders st station.
