I'd say Horwill is certain to get suspended for it. No damage down to the recipient just dumb from Horwill.

^^^^^^ just seen the clip (pardon the pun) & yes, really really dumb & a total cheap shot. May only get 1 week, tho...... or 6 on appeal by SANZAR :)

Re the game: the overwhelming thought I had was that there is way more positive potential in many Rebels players than their coach is, in a team coaching sense, actually realising.

this is obvious to all of us following the Rebels.

our pathetic offence last night was marginally better than your pathetic defence with only 14 men.

There was one scrum where the Rebels were all pushing square and moving forward and the Reds appeared to wheel away and somehow he found a penalty against PAE. It was wierd stuff - even by the lottery that are scrum penalties at the best of times.

Agree, Rebels scrum was dominant and then they would get penalised. Maybe it was just Slipper playing the ref better.

To avoid the scrum penalty lottery they should blow for skew scrum feed and then they are at blowing a legitimate free-kick.

If the ball goes into a scrum and the hooker cannot hook the ball you know he is being dominated. Watch some of the Reds scrums. The ball sat in the tunnel for an age.

Can the one match sign the death warrant for both coaches? Because last night came very close.

Although kudos to Reds for hanging in the match as long as they did. Having said that apart from Naivalu we didn't throw much at the Reds.

McGahan's game plan is too defensive, fancy only just falling over the line and not getting a bonus point when you have an extra man for 60 minutes. Lucky we had some x factor with Naivalu. Dear Tony please note you have someone on your list called Telusa Veainu, lightning fast.

Last night is one of the most frustrating sporting matches I have ever watched / attended.

As for Horwill I thought he would get a yellow card. What a stupid thing to do particularly by someone with so much experience. He had a fair wind up. Why give the referee any reason to give you a red card? If he wasn't sent off Reds win in a canter.

my observations from last night

great to get a win at home at last.

Naivalu and Debrzceni had their best games for the Rebels. Reid made a significant impact when he came on. i thought both Jones and McMahon were more effective in what they did, previously industrious but ineffectual much of the time.

For the Reds Gill was outstanding

the Rebels still have significant problems though. Once again dominating possession without being able to score. The lineout was better but Leafa still threw a couple of not straights at crucial times. Higgers for all hisleadeship abilities is still a crap tactician. at 15 -15, penalty rebs, relatively easy kick at goal, seems a straight forward decision; no lets go to the 50/50 scrum and turnover the ball, FFS. his ref management at least from the sideline seems non existent, Genia got away with murder last night. i did see him and PAE complaining about Slipper.

the refereeing (red card aside) was a disgrace. O'Brien once again completely out of his depth. from my perspective he is now as bad as Gardener. i hope we don't have either of them again ever, but thats not going to happen.

Reckon the Reds scrum was generally very good. Slipper suckered in PAE at will.
Considering Horwill off the field and I think Shatzie packing at lock it was very good

Horwill deverves 2-3 weeks for fucking stupidity alone. Thankfully Paulie not injured by the cheap shot

I thought the Rebels tactics were spot on after Horwills act of stupidity.

When the Rebels move the ball wide, they look very good and last night their forwards were able to give them plenty of front foot ball to work with. There's the makings of a very good rugby side there, but at the moment they consistently let thmselves down with a poor pass, a loose carry, a poor clean-out or a bad option at critical moments which tends to undo a lot of really good work and they have to start again.

Agree the referee management was poor from the Rebels. Even on the TV you could hear Slipper having a polite chat to the ref during breaks and putting thoughts in his mind. Higginbotham just seems to give the refs a frustrated look instead of saying something like "our prop say he's being pulled down, could you have a look at Slipper's elbow", "is their half allowed to push our half after the scrum feed, I thought you couldn't push a player who didn't have the ball" etc, etc, etc,

I agree, I thought Slipper was done over a few times. He should have been pinged for collapsing a few times. Elbow pointing downwards and then folding.

Rebels still looked pedestrian and predictable. It looks like they have all the enterprise coached out of them and they play to a plan. Zzzzz

Maybe so, but the plan to attack down Bieber's wing certainly paid off quite handsomely.

And Ant was good packing at 6 on Reds' feed.

Should've been at least two, either way he should be dropped after that. Hopefully Simo is back soon.

Soft call by the judiciary. Should have been more, considering past citings.

You got a link to the decision?

Yeah, Slipper put in a very canny performance and played the ref as well as he did PAE. He was dominant early on and managed to parlay that into penalties even after the missing man began to take it's toll and his play became less than legal. Having Holmes as an absolute rock on the other side made it possible.

As far as PAE's wallaby hopes go this didn't do him any favours but he's got a few games to show that he can learn from it. The return match up between him and Slipper will be very interesting.

Actually the Rebels got a free kick against them for not hooking a scrum and the flanker having to play it. There was no dominance for either team. If the Rebels were dominant they would have gotten a few good shoves on, they couldn't really get any and actually looked to have issues with the Reds packing with Schatz at lock and Ant sometimes at flanker. You really would have expected better from the Rebels scrum.
