How have they signed him given there is a moratorium on signing players?
Do the ARU need to approve contracts for non-Wallabies? If not the moratorium is probably not that enforceable.

I would guess it is just Cox ignoring that directive.

The ARU still needs to ratify the contract and presumably the Rebels have a clause in there protecting them if they get cut.

It would seem this is being used by Cox as a tool to push the ARU but I doubt he'd be stupid enough to commit to a future liability without a get-out clause.

Maybe he thinks he can simply pass on any liability to the ARU in the circumstance of the Rebels being cut. On the evidence of the ARU's contracting capabilities on display in the Rebels and Force situations, he could be right.

I wonder if the ARU have approved the signing of Henry Hutchison because they are happy to guarantee him a place elsewhere if the Rebels don't exist in 2018?

That would insinuate an ARU top up contract, i'd be surprised if that was the case. At the end of the day it's prob just a rumor. I'd also be surprised if he did sign for a club next year, there is the World Cup sevens and the Commonwealth games, unless he has dispensation to break from camp to attend both.

Why would it insinuate an ARU top up?

As it stands he will be gone. If the Rebels fold he and any others will probably be picked up else where

Yeh i suspect if an agreement has been made, it'd be verbal pending what happens to the club. Free to negotiate anywhere he decides after. Worst case scenario for him would be to fall back into the 7's program

Depends he could have actually signed a while ago before all this turmoil happened

I would imagine that the Rebels would be continuing to operate on the assumption they are staying. If I owned the Rebels I would have sent the lawyers in and told the ARU that any restriction on my club hiring players was restricting my ability to make money, and that I would be taking legal action if they persisted - potential lost earnings for years to come. Who knows what those players could have done for my club, etc, etc. Worst case it potentially makes my pie bigger when I sell the ARU my licence. Would be surprised if Cox hadn't done the same.

Umm I didn't realise Cox was ready to sell the rebels - last I heard he was around for the long haul - have I missed something?

It was a comment I made on the Fox Sport Rugby page about Ryan Cross' idea of a Rebels v Force death match:

"And while we are at it, let's pick a boy and girl from each of the 12 districts and they can fight to the death and the winner can go and live in the capital. What a muppet!"

Obviously I was making a joking reference to Hunger Games but also that I thought it was a stupid idea.

I still found it curious that he chose to Like that comment, but I'm reading into everything at the moment.

Ok, he obviously sees it all as abit of satire half of what's being written. I think/hope he is up for a fight. Anyway back to the game this weekend, what do you think about the team?
